Mr. Brian 06-14-2004 02:04 AM

Zach, I'd like to apply this to my shoutbox aswell. But I've got no ideal which template should I look for?

shoutbox frame? main?

anyhelp will be much appreciated

rebelsrock06 06-14-2004 07:41 PM

this is what mine looks like

what is wrong ??

Zachery 06-14-2004 08:19 PM

Did you add images?

rebelsrock06 06-14-2004 08:30 PM

that would be the blue part behind the X

rebelsrock06 06-14-2004 08:33 PM

this thing is just too complicated

Remove the bored on the table in the STyle Manager, add your image if you want it on the bottom also add this to the botton of the forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost

<table width="100%" cellpadding="" cellspacing="" valign="" align"center">
<td style="$stylevar[left]"><img src="images/ford/cat_left.gif"></td>
<td width="100%" background="images/ford/middle.GIF"></td>
<td style="$stylevar[right]"><img src="images/ford/cat_right.gif"></td>
</table>

with your images of course

idwf 06-20-2004 07:36 AM

ignor this. Sorry. Pood up big style!

phace 06-26-2004 09:55 AM

Not sure why some of your spacing isn't working. I fixed that p5x; part and mine worked fine. You sure you edited it all correctly? Great mod zach, lots of help and very useful. Don't hide secrets from us, we'd have to go through the hassle of hiring mercenaries to hunt you down, pants you, put toothpaste in your hair, and then force you to tell us through torture of sleep deprevation and staring at ugly women! :)

CyTreX 07-05-2004 12:41 PM

hi

this mod works fine :)

Now I want to put images on the left and the right side of the category too. So that the categories looks like in a box.

Any ideas what i have to do for this?

imported_kira 07-16-2004 04:15 PM

Hi! This seems like a great mod, but I'm having trouble getting it to work with my forum due to my use of the "subforums in columns" hack by Xenon. It seems to be the level1 nopost template that's screwing me up. Can anyone help me? Is it possible to have both columned subforums and separated categories?

Here's what my template looks like:

PHP Code:

<tbody>
    <
tr>
        <
td class="tcat" colspan="<if condition="$vboptions[showmoderatorcolumn]">6<else />5</if>">
            <
a style="float:$stylevar[right]href="#top" onclick="return toggle_collapse('forumbit_$forumid')"><img id="collapseimg_forumbit_$forumidsrc="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/collapse_tcat{$collapseimg_forumid}.gif" alt="" border="0" /></a>
            <
a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]f=$forum[forumid]">$forum[title]</a>
            <if
condition="$show['forumdescription']"><div class="smallfont">$forum[description]</div></if>
            <if
condition="$show['subforums']"><div class="smallfont"><strong>$vbphrase[subforums]</strong>: $forum[subforums]</div></if>
        </
td>
    </
tr>
</
tbody>
<if
condition="$childforumbits">
<
tbody id="collapseobj_forumbit_$forumidstyle="{$collapseobj_forumid}">
<if
condition="$forum['subforumcolumns'] > 1">
    <
tr>
        <
td class="alt1" colspan="<if condition="$vboptions[showmoderatorcolumn]">6<else />5</if>">
<
table style="border: none; width: 100%;">

$childforumbits
</table>
        </
td>
    </
tr>
<else />

$childforumbits
</if>
</
tbody>
</if>

Hi again! Is anyone here who might help me?

HaloImpulse 07-18-2004 01:58 AM

Kinda funny that I'm the one responding here, since I'm still trying to get help for my question, LOL! :D But anyway, here goes, I think this will help.

In the edited forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost template, where you added:

PHP Code:

<div style="padding: 5px 5px 5px p5x;"></div

Change the various "5px" references to whatever you want -- if you want more space, make them "10px" or even higher. Play around to see what looks good on your forums.

(And btw, make sure to change the typo* from "p5x" to "5px". This typo was pointed out in this thread early on, so I'm surprised the file hasn't been changed by now.)

Hope I'm right and this helps.

HaloImpulse 07-18-2004 07:30 PM

do i need to change each one? OR just1 of them.

imported_kira 07-18-2004 07:35 PM

Might as well change all of 'em. :)

HaloImpulse 07-18-2004 08:05 PM

yeah, i got it

imported_kira 07-19-2004 07:05 AM

You're very welcome. Now that I've made myself useful, can someone answer my question pleeeeeeeeeease? I mean, so many people use the "columns on forumhome" hack, and many of these people must use the category spacing mod ... it seems hard to believe that this is some mystery wrapped in an enigma smothered in secret sauce!

I really really have tried to work this out myself, but the conditionals are just messing me up right and left. HELP!

HaloImpulse 07-22-2004 04:42 PM

This messed up some alignement for me.

Look.

HaloImpulse 08-01-2004 06:23 AM

:-(. Hook meh up with some alignment!

Zachery 08-01-2004 07:04 AM

Ill see about releasing a new version as I have taken greater steps to improve this mod but not released it.

croft 08-03-2004 03:06 PM

I do seam to have a small problem with this mod.
There is an extra table just under the cat images and over the forum. posts. last post.
How do i get rid of it ? It wont disapere when hitting the minimize button ???

Check the screens.

DarknessDivine 08-13-2004 01:25 PM

My forumhome alignement is also waaaaaaaaay off after this mod...any updates yet Zackery? ;)

Trekkie 08-31-2004 04:17 PM

please update :)

imported_str8ballin 09-01-2004 08:58 PM

sorry if this seems dumb , ive had a long day and cant beleive I havent figured this out but.. how the hell do you get the tcat_centre.gif to show up, Im unsure where to put the path to the image in the template like I did wid the tcat left and right.. confused.

Cole2026 09-04-2004 02:41 AM

The catagorys seem like they have a fixed width because it is pushing my forum out of balance with my logo.

tHe Rk 09-05-2004 02:26 PM

I just wanted to pop in here and give a shout out on this hack. I couldn't do it when I was in process of getting it to work because we were building a whole theme that we wanted to keep under wraps. But from the one hack we were able to do things we never thought we could.

Things that improved our Look from this hack
#1 We always wanted forum spacing, but could never get it to work right. We now have it and it's fantastic!

#2 Top and Bottom Images is something we ALWAYS wanted, but again had no idea how to do it. They add so much to the forum and you can use them anywhere!

#3 From looking at the code and realizing we could use it anywhere, we redesigned our Postbit using this code, and it's added a whole new level of originality and professionalism to our board.

#4 This code gave us the confidence to really push and figure some new things out. One of those was having links built in onto the forum header, and not only just links, but links that change when being hovered over. And another was the integration in the profile area in the postbit.

This hack ALONE has had the single greatest impact on the look of our board.

You can view the change yourself by going to www.xgplanet.com and using the Quick Style Chooser to switch between the old look and the new look. Its really amazing.

I have also attached some pics of what this has done for our board.

PS - bfoot045's board is CLEARLY inspired by what we have done. I just don't like him copying our style without permission.

I believe there is some fixes for it, as that's how we got ours to work. It's been a while though, so I don't remember exactly how we fixed it. Read through this thread, and I am sure you will find the fixes or links to the fixes.

Sorry for the double post :eek:

Ymeaga1n 09-05-2004 04:15 PM

I had problems with my alignment on both the last post and also the image at the beginning, I couldn't figure out how to get them to work til I decided to add width="100%" to the
Code:

<td class="thead" width="100%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td>
so as i have it below, all forums are now aligned for me.

Code:

<tr align="center">
          <td class="thead" width="15">&nbsp;</td>
          <td class="thead" width="100%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td>
          <td class="thead" width="250">$vbphrase[last_post]</td>
          <td class="thead" width="40">$vbphrase[threads]</td>
          <td class="thead" width="40">$vbphrase[posts]</td>
          <if condition="$vboptions[showmoderatorcolumn]">
          <td class="thead">$vbphrase[moderator]</td>
          </if>
        </tr>

Keep in mind you have to have a set width for all the other columns so the 100% from this one doesn't interfere with them. Hope it works for you guys too.

Cole2026 09-05-2004 06:04 PM

Dont worry RK, Its just a test skin, I needed to use something with side stuff like that so I could test out this mod. It will change. The top logo will change.

I would like to use the test style I posted above, and was going to ask during opening,(several weeks from now). Ill use my other style if I cannot use the one I have currently. It was made from scratch in photoshop.

DarknessDivine 09-05-2004 07:59 PM

RK, I fixed it myself just messing around with things and rewriting things..lol added code here and took code out there and ended up working..I have to say I have learned a ton from this mod though...;)
P.S. Your forum skin looks great!!!

There are several things that bother me about the current style your using. First thing is, on your header it says you designed and coded the style. While you may have made it from scratch in Photoshop, you obviously did not design it. The design was a collaboration between myself and my Professional Graphics Technician. He did every bit of the graphic work based on his idea's and a few of mine for the graphic design. We would appreciate if you did not use your current style as it is a clone of our style, in which took a lot of time to design and incorperate. Again we'd appreciate it if you could come up with your original graphics your website. Thanks.

Also, being that your looking to start a site, might I suggest that you come up with something all your own. Our site was criticized early on because we looked to much like another site a lot of us came from. So when we decided to work on this theme we wanted something different from anything anyone had seen before graphically with the colors, header, and graphics.

We wish you the best of luck with your site and hope you can understand our reasoning in wanting you to go another direction graphically. Thanks, and have a nice day.

Glad you figured it out, and thanks for the compliment :cool:

gfd 09-07-2004 11:40 AM

I'm have the same probelm with Croft. As well as the additional problem of wrong widths in one of the columns.

An extra row that appears underneath the thread title, in Firefox and Opera - IEWin does not show it.

I checked the code and it's this:
<thead>
<tr>
<td class="tcat" colspan="<if condition="$vboptions[showmoderatorcolumn]">6<else />5</if>">
</td>
</tr>
</thead>

What exactly does this empty row do? Firefox and Opera do display empty rows unlike IE, and it doesn't look nice when it's empty.

I just deleted this row but I would like to know its purpuse. Please advise.

As far as the problem with the widths, please see the screenshot provided. Firefox displays it correctly, but Opera and IEWin do not.

Any suggestions?

thanks

PS. excellent mod by the way.

imported_Mathiau 09-20-2004 06:28 AM

okay

what did i do wrong..LOl (messing with now to try and recopy code)

http://fuzzy.phpwebhosting.com/%7Emathiau/vb/index.php?

[UPDATE}

(excuse the n00bness but been a while since i worked with VB.

Okay, got the 2 categories but i got no sapce and i have re-copied the coding 3 times now
- what line specifically tells their to be a space between the categories?

imported_Mathiau 09-21-2004 04:03 AM

Okay also now after putting in this hack when i change my table size from %100 to anything else -

i end up with

http://fuzzy.phpwebhosting.com/%7Emathiau/vb/index.php?

it only shrinks the forums categories / tables - nothing else........

idwf 09-22-2004 04:58 PM

urm...i suggest just resetting all the templates you changed to their originals for now...

?? you broke it real good son!

Tony G 09-23-2004 12:00 AM

I agree with Magik, reset the templates modified and start again if you don't know what you did for it to become like that.

imported_Mathiau 09-23-2004 04:22 AM

^^ will try that - did it 3 times now and everytime it only shrinks those tables if i put it at%80 table width - :(

Shinobi 09-28-2004 07:51 PM

Hey im just having a little problem after modifying my templates with your code (btw, nice job on the modification)

For some reason, the bottom image in my code seems to repeat itself. See the image i attached. Do you know whats causing it?? I also attached my
forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost

Cole2026 09-30-2004 12:59 AM

Just started intergrating my final forum theme, I found out it was a variable problem for mine, it would say for the width of the tables to be the outer table width, when they need to be the inner table width.

Shinobi 09-30-2004 09:01 PM

argh i figured it out, stupid wrong non 0 cellpadding, thanks tho... *kicks vbulletin*
