yes, I am not upgrading my site to 3.5 till we have this for 3.5

cmiller1014 10-03-2005 12:29 AM

Posting this again for those that didnt see. This SHOULD BE A DEFAULT part of VB. Every site needs tools to drive traffic.

Go here and tell them "I WANT THIS ADDED TO VBULLETIN!".

cmiller,

I added my 2 cents :) I really hope someone comes up with 3.5 version of this soon, I love this hack, I'd be willing to pay $$ for this hack!

Combull was good but could have been better. That said it always brought lots of my users back and none complained about being bulk emailed.

I hope it gets release/remade for 3.5, I miss it :disappointed:

Hmm ... not necessarily.
My board gets +- enough traffic - without being advertised. :)
So at least I don't see a real need for such a tool (which is undeniably a nice toy though).

dethfire 10-03-2005 06:58 PM

I wish to have it for 3.5 too. Only revamped because it would always timeout trying to email my 30k members.

I'm sure you could request that modification from one of these leet coders here at vb.org. Once it comes out that is.

Have you ran some stats with or without it? We now average 220 unique visitors on a normal day, but on friday when combull goes out we get about 1500 or so. I am going to upgrade only because I need articles, reviews, and other things that only 3.5 can do, but I am still looking to hire someone to write this for me. Not everyone has a chance to check a forum dailly but that doesnt mean they dont want to know whats going on.

I have had members thank me dozens of times for "reminding" them about the site and whats going on with it. Without a weekly update like this, my site will be hurting big time.

Also wanted to comment, not everyone has this luxury. I actually have a very unique forum but it is specific to one industry and I cannot even open it to search engines or guests because there is industry specific info that cant be leaked to just anyone. :(

I will be doing something similar (as I need it as well!) - however I most likely wont get to it for a few more weeks. I know exactly how to impliment it which will make it a freaking dream. As cool as commbull is - I had to hack the living heck out of it to get it to do what I wanted. Already played with some prototypes and Im pretty pumped to get started on it.

diettalk 10-04-2005 09:21 AM

That would be cool and I would be extremely grateful. Thanks

@cmiller1014
Currently, we got approx. 2,600 active users/day (not counting guests).
So far, we've sent out 1 Newsletter, but that was almost 1 year ago.
At this time, we AFAIK had about 2,000 active users/day, after the newsletter it was about 2,500.
So it was noticable, but as we got many complaints about spamming from our users we decided not to do it again.

Thanks, Bud! I will be pruchasing all of your products as soon as I upgrade to 3.5. You've certainly got the goods!

noppid 10-04-2005 01:28 PM

I have commbull working on my vB 3.5 forum. But since I didn't code it, I doubt I can release it. It was a bit of work to convert, but it's doable.
  • There are still two user table fields added.
  • There is still a template edit of modifyoptions and the same code works, although I cleaned it up by removing a bug and changing the phrases.
  • There are still four phrases.
  • The hack of profile.php is now a hook.
  • I didn't mess with the ACP menu item, never did for this hack. I just access the file directly by the browser address bar.

EDIT:
OK, I did the XML for the ACP menu item. I also rewrote the installer and instructions for vB3.5. I needed it to work right so I don't have issues in the future.

If anyone knows the previous authors and can get in touch with them to post this, let them know and I'll forward them the code to post. I don't want to support this or post this myself.

Thanks

Noppid to the rescue. Commbull lives on!

Avalon111 10-15-2005 08:27 AM

commbull is nice but not what i need.

i need just a small newsletter feature!

The members can select in their options if they want to get the newsletter or not.

in admincp i should have a editor where i can write the newsletter and send it out to all members who have agreed to get it.

not more.

i think that could be coded in less that one day. or am i wrong?

anyone else wants such a simple newsletter feature???

Nullifi3d 10-15-2005 12:12 PM

You can edit the newsletter email before it's sent. Right after you hit the preview button.

dactyl 12-26-2005 03:49 PM

It would be great to have a mailist list plugin for vB to email users with a daily/weekly or a monthly newsletter, not just the recent threads etc, i mean a full html newsletter system.

paulfletcher 04-19-2006 09:40 PM

I agree. Combull just seems to buggy to me.

oninuva 06-01-2006 12:28 AM

paulfletcher 06-02-2006 02:09 AM

Can't believe it. Combull is actually working on our site. Although I think we are switching over to a more expensive newsletter software. Although... It works :)

Anyways... Thanks,
Paul Fletcher

Kihon Kata 06-02-2006 02:11 AM

Can you tell me what software you will use?

uniquewebmaster 07-31-2006 09:29 AM

Hey,

I would also like to see this! I run on 3.5.4 and would like to see this added!

I NEED this:)

Apoco 01-09-2007 03:53 PM

*bump*
Need this too :(

grandeur_69 01-09-2007 04:20 PM

I've been working on Commbull for the last few days and hope to work out the bugs. For 90% of the people, there are no problems, but every once in awhile i run into someone that has problems and each one has to be handled separately. I am also close to fixing the problem with sending the emails via cron, but for most servers, it seems to fail (even though it works fine on mine ... so it's hard to find where the actual problem is).

MotMann 01-09-2007 04:36 PM

I search for a Newslettermodul for 3.6.4 too :)

I only asked for alternatives becuase of what I read of others having issues on your official support forums. I used it a while ago, but looking for something that is morestable (especially if I'm paying for it). The inactive users feature would be great feature if you add that, you'll get alot more interest. Still might end up with Commbull, but for now still looking around. Have a large forum (5000+ users), and it sounds like that would be an issue with CommBull...

Anyone know of a newsletter that would also integrate the latest links added (ie. VBadvanced Links) also into a newsletter?

Any other ideas out there?

grandeur_69 02-02-2007 07:25 PM

All my clients use it for their forums on a weekly basis and some of them have over 40,000 users (reitforum.de, abnehmen.com) and ours are over or close to 10,000 (worldfitness.com & weight-loss-forum.com). The problems occur mostly with people who are on shared hosting with servers not built to handle vB's software (and therefor can't handle the sending of such large emails to a large number of people).

matt4 08-24-2008 01:22 AM

Need something more customizeable (free is always a bonus)

HTML/BBCode editing capabilites would be great. Need something that can work well. I don't know what combull is even like because I cannot find a demo :(

funinthesun 09-01-2008 01:31 PM

Is there anything like commbull for 3.7?
