I agree with Erwin. Even though many scripts get leacked into hands of software pirates anyways... the support will not be the same nowhere else like in the official websites...

I think Geeky Design's support is pretty awesome..they aren't an 'official' site...

Basically, it comes down to preventing unlicensed users from accessing the hacks. The only (and currently somewhat defeatable) way at the moment is through release here.

Zachery speaks The Word. It sucks when someone puts many hours of work into something, only to find that it is being distributed to dirty thieves.

I would perfer to release ALL my hacks here but due to vb.org policies i have to host my commercial hacks on my own site, there is only 2 of them but.. i still dont know if the hack buyers have a valid vB licence. i spose i could ask, but how am i to know that they are telling me the truth.

I wiuld prefer to loose a sale of a hack if i knew that they didnt have a licence

Good point trafix.

Should be raised with Jelsoft.

yeah like an approved list of freelancers/companies that quickly query a name to see if their licensed. a coder would apply and jelsoft can either approve or disapprove the application.

yeah But you still cant varify if the number that they give you is ligit

@Erwin ..... I thought this had already been discussed with Jelsoft ... hence the policy

Marco van Herwaarden 02-18-2005 03:23 AM

Maybe Jelsoft can implement a "Email proof of license" function on the member page. This will not be a soltution for (bigger) forums, but could help with individual requests. This function should send a mail to mail of the freelancer that this member has a license.

Because the member himself must send this mail, there will not be a privacy issue.

I think it's unfair to judge a coder based on whether he has a license or not. I have been here up until 9months ago without owning a license, I was added to the premium support section because I helped out a friends forum :)

Tony G 02-19-2005 09:44 AM

Dean is right, there's no reason to judge a coder in that way. They're either good at they do or not. Simple as that.

Anyway, my view on this is that, it's up to you, but there's the risk of helping warez users with modifications to their forum. I'm sure this opinion has been mimiced a few times, but meh. *shrug*

I've given some of my hacks to people through AIM. Some may not consider this to be such a good idea but i did it because i just wanted to see "TEXT/BANNER Hack By gio~logist" on as many sites as possible :-D
