the news doesn't seem to work, only one item shows, but no text appears

PixelFx 06-07-2004 07:03 AM

it works great :) make sure you setup your path correctly in the cmps_index.php file and make sure you reset your forum's cache :) I use it on www.gamefx.ca if you want to see how it looks in action

Imprezer 06-07-2004 07:39 AM

Awesome portal!

I have tried them all. For both vb2 and vb3. This is the best of the best.

Support is great. Lots of add-ons. Easy to make your own.

Works perfect on a huge forum like mine. ;)

Thanks a lot!

In your Admin CP, under Import & Maintence => Update Counters there's an option to rebuild thread information. Try running that and it should solve the problem.

redlabour 06-08-2004 10:00 AM

Simply the best after i tested vbportal.com (<- and payed for it - i?m so stupid sometimes !) and vbi (which has xhtml errors) and my-vB Portal Lite (no comment).

Nice work ! :D

Now i will start with a german translation - if there is enough interest i will post it here ! ;)

ChuanSE 06-13-2004 03:31 AM

Hello,

Could one of you tell me what the code was to have a home link when on forums or forum link when on portal in the navbar.
something with "if this script".... I can't remember :p

jamescrf 06-13-2004 09:54 PM

Great product.. I am wondering if you guys know if its possible to split the news into two columns. If you post two news stories they appear on after the other on the home page - I would like to be able to have them next to each other - so first line would have story 1 and two, then the next line under it would have story 3 and 4...

thanks,

Wolffman 06-14-2004 01:01 AM

I have a quick question:

Is there a way to "sticky" a news item to the top of the news section? I tried stickying it in the forum that we post the news, and it still doesn't stay at the top.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

CMPS is far more modular / flexible than vPortal imo. Install it on a test system as see for yourself :). You won't be disappointed.

sc4r3d 06-17-2004 12:34 PM

good thinking :D I will do that and just test them both. :D

Thanks bro,

egyptsons 06-17-2004 04:19 PM

nice one :)

achtungbaby 06-17-2004 08:11 PM

I don't often comment on hacks...but this is pretty impressive. Definitely the most flexible/modular of the portal hacks that I've seen so far.

insanctus 06-18-2004 01:05 AM

Playin with this on one my sites now, very cool ~ clicks install.

Zelda-King 06-18-2004 11:40 PM

Hmm, I have the same problem getting headers to show as I did with the previous vBAdvanced portal. Last time it was a matter of pasting the header into the index_header template but there doesn't seem to be one of those any more so what's the procedure now?

insanctus 06-18-2004 11:42 PM

Mine is working great at http://sanoxs.com

kiengio 06-19-2004 04:06 AM

Help :)

Intex 06-19-2004 06:31 AM

Zelda-King - you now simply get to choose a style to use. Go to AdminCP > Edit Pages > Default / Homepage. There you can see you can select a style for the page to use. The header is then called in the same way as the forum, by use of $header.

You then get the ability to create different pages and have different styles associated with them. If you create a child-style of your main forum style, then you don't need to copy / paste settings. Makes a life a whole lot easier.

Yes I've selected the style. Everything shows present and correct except that the header is omited;

Like so.

It's because the images are being called from the domain root directory. Not the forum root directory where the images actually are. On the previous version I had to adjust the URLs in the headers.

Zelda-King 06-19-2004 12:00 PM

Never mind. I fixed this. I needed to change the header URLs to the full URL. eg, change "images/logo.gif" to http://www.domain.com/forums/images/logo.gif".

jcr 06-21-2004 03:13 AM

This is by far the most useful and spectacular Portal mod for vb! It workes like a charm! :D

JTMON 06-21-2004 05:21 AM

I just released a dynamic flash navigation module for it here:
http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1420

Edric 06-22-2004 01:41 PM

Hello, I am trying to install vbAdvanced CMPS, unfortunately I thought I did everything correct but I cannot load any page from my forum any longer and I get the following error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home/httpd/vhosts/avemelita.com/httpdocs/forum/includes/functions.php on line 1864

Can anyone help me in fixing this?

Edric 06-22-2004 03:01 PM

I fixed the above problem and supposedly installed the hack successfully. However when I try to access cmps_index.php (which I saved in my root folder, forum is in /forum) I get the following error:

Warning: main(./global.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/httpd/vhosts/avemelita.com/httpdocs/cmps_index.php on line 25

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required './global.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /home/httpd/vhosts/avemelita.com/httpdocs/cmps_index.php on line 25

Can anyone possibly help?

FleaBag 06-22-2004 04:39 PM

Installation couldn't have gone smoother... Finally made the switch and loving it.

chillrb 06-22-2004 10:58 PM

Gotta second that! Installed last night like a champ and I've only been working with vbulletin a week now.

Clicks install!

Big Kahuna 06-23-2004 12:55 AM

I'm currently using VBindex.

1. What is the major advantage of it over VBindex?

2. I have about 15 different viewing styles on my board. The one thing that is a little time consuming with VBIndex over VBPortal (when I was on VB2) is that any change has to be made in all styles since every box is a template. Is that the same with vBadvanced?

3. Are there any conversion issues for the people currently using VBIndex?

4. Is it possible to try this on my board without first removing VBindex -- and by renaming the index.php let my members preview both and give their feedback?

Thanx

I had same issue, it was a typo I made around the code I pasted...check it again carefully.

Edric 06-23-2004 03:48 PM

I installed this awesome hack just now, I still have to work on it to get it to look how I want. Thanks to Brian for this awesome hack and his great support at vbAdvanced.com.

I had no problems using this at the same time that VBindex was installed on my forums.

Big Kahuna 06-23-2004 10:05 PM

None of the files are named the same and there's no conflict in the tables?

misterfade 06-23-2004 10:37 PM

I'm about to test out this hack, but my question is:

Would this work okay on a site that has lots of pages? My site is kinda big, and I want to make sure that this hack and my forums can support lots of article pages, etc.

notorious 06-24-2004 10:09 AM

great hack much better imo than any of the other portal hacks and works with all my skins
