I hope everyone realizes that this mod likely isn't possible in the breadth everyone talks about. the NASDAQ took billions to write... so, i doubt it'll ever be written.

It's already been done.

Somebody's written a mod to pull the values from YaHoo! shares and implement them into a forum using vbCredits or similar virtual cash system.

Its a shame this is dead - it didnt really do what I wanted anyway - I didnt want members to be buying stocks using their credits I wanted them to be buying made up stocks and the mod turned around and depending what the market has been like the stock prices go up or down for certain made up countries.

I just set up a free contest on updown.com for my forum to use. Didn't have to worry about integrating it with vBulletin or with any quote system. We're two weeks into our contest, and it seems to be working great.
