cool.. i'll take the first version and keep you posted on bugs :o)

nexialys 09-06-2004 01:37 PM

hey hey... bugs... hum.. i don't think there will have any bug... the way we deal with that is that we will create a module for phpAuctions and a integration script for vB, so when you buy any version of phpAuction, you have it integrated, and you just have to hack vB a little to make the integration... so there is no possibility of bugs between the tools... it will be a official and commercial release!

btw, we may have a list of blocks for vBadvanced or other portals, and some blocks for inside vB (à la photopost) so your users can interact with the auctions... but there will be no complete integration of the features in vB, as it would overload the system and be hasardeous.

allandk 09-06-2004 02:10 PM

i would have preferred a GPL solution, but i'll take what i can get :) how long do you think it will take before it's ready ?

Hard to have a GPL solution when both the systems are commercial ;)
(i hate GPL... always stuck with strange rules)

btw, the phpAuction GPL will havethat addon, so you pay 20$ for the software and integrate it... it's a basical version but with power though...

and you will not only have the Auctions, but also the Reverse Auctions and the Classifieds ... i build the integration for all systems...

allandk 09-06-2004 04:14 PM

ok that's what i was lookig for.. integration with phpauction GPL.. it's not that i don't want to pay, i just don't want compiled code on my site..

when do you think it will be ready.? apx ?

StewardManscat 09-06-2004 05:14 PM

Clearly this is a powerful and useful system that many are using without issue.

However, I was unable to install it.

I'm a php guy, and don't know mch about perl, nor do I want to. But I have my own server and do run some perl scripts. The people at vbauction seemed ready and willing to help me get it up and running. I gave them all the telnet/ftp info and off they went.

It's a month later. No auction. No replies from vbauction except "Please note that uder the terms of your license you are not entitled to a refund".

I'd be happy to do whatever I can to help with your setup. You can PM me here with your contact info.

I, too, haven't been very impressed with the vbAuction online support. They did create a "SUPPORT FORUM" to which I posted a lot of information, some questions and bugs, and then came the response post 2-3 weeks later that the forum was not for official support, which had to be requested by email, using the vBauction support ticket system. I was also told that everyone who had requested report had received it, including free installation of their purchased software. Of course, I have no information to support or dispute that.

So, I would recommend that you submit a ticket if you haven't already.

On the positive side, there was an update released a couple of weeks back that addressed all the 12 or so problems that I had reported to that point, with the exception of some issues with the integration and import of users.

Currently, I am unhappy that certain parts of the script pass the username and password right on the command line as part of the URL. Clearly that is a security risk. I have some ideas about addressing that, but I have not invited users to participate in the auctions yet until I get a more thorough analysis going.

Regards,

Matt

nexialys 09-06-2004 05:46 PM

hum... Matt... if you are so interested to deal with phpAuction, i can offer you to join me at some points... the Founder is a friend, and he is ready to "listen" for that kind of updates...

btw, i'm not to give support on phpAuction myself, so their support service is not to be discussed.. it's another question i don't care to answer, because i'm not the one to offer support for the software... i'm just building a integration script that will be integrated to phpAuction itself...

we even don't know yet how to deal with this, as i don't have all the sources... we will see.

if you have requests for features, suggestions of codes etc, just list them.. btw. i will start a new thread about the software once i start coding it.

see ya

StewardManscat 09-07-2004 01:39 AM

Memobug... Thank you for your kind and generous offer. I am familiar with the vbauction forum and your presence there. Your enthusiasm is encouraging.

But I think I'll pass on this one. It was a gamble and I lost. I'm learning how to cut my losses.

If I knew or wanted to learn perl it would be a different story, but facing gnarly perl problems under pressure for a fix... too many other interesting challenges beckon.

Best of luck to the vbauction team. Count me out.

Thanks, I will keep reading this thread as is updated ;)

chet 09-08-2004 09:40 AM

Is the above link for a timed demo as I thought this was a paid hack

Chet

I have removed the link

nexialys 09-08-2004 09:46 AM

thanks Liquid1ce to send the url of a paid software.

I will alert everyone that if you download this software, you will face the license, because you have to register and pay for that release.

BTW: i always found strange to see a software released at a certain price (120$) and integrated to vB, BUT the source itself is from a complete different company, and that company release that software at 4 times the price... ....doesn't it look like code stealing ?! because it takes 2 seconds to see the source;

Dean C 09-08-2004 10:30 AM

The post has been deleted. Please don't post links to paid software again.

... Dean, Chet have quoted the url and it's not deleted yet..

see ya (and delete that post too!)

chet 09-08-2004 12:11 PM

I have deleted the link now

Dean C 09-08-2004 03:16 PM

My apologies chet, I was not referring to your link as it seemed. A user before you posted a link to a direct download of vBauction which is illegal. I removed his post and it would have seemed to you that's why. My apologies for the confusion :) Please feel free to edit the URL you had there before back in.

version2 10-13-2004 06:51 PM

Do not and I repeat do NOT buy the vbauction software. It is NOT integrated. It is a workaround that even replicates the member tables. Not only that the auction software itself is riddled with bugs. It is EXTREMELY unsecured. There is no error checking/validation. So far we have fixed a grand total of 62 bugs and most of these have been showstoppers.

Buyer beware.

allandk 10-13-2004 06:55 PM

some please contact me to make a working integration with phpauction GPL

nexialys 10-13-2004 07:11 PM

@allandk ... just go on my site (my signature!) for a follow up... we're starting the integration by the week-end.. may take some days, but not weeks...

allandk 10-13-2004 07:15 PM

first customer ready :o)

<a href="http://acmsoft.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=4" target="_blank">http://acmsoft.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=4</a> for the follow up of the phpAuction project. i'd like to have users and future owners suggestions.. maybe we can have more features and interaction if you have ideas to deal with.

we will not continue this discussion here, due to Commercial Content... and Owners demand!

memobug 10-24-2004 08:38 AM

Dear nexialys,

FWIW, I am pretty much interested in what I thought I was buying in the vbAuction featureset. http://www.vbauction.com/featurelist.html It didn't really pan out though because their integration was pretty lame, but live and learn.
BTW, I don't understand why you got all Neanderthal on this guy who was just offering to help

Hi,
as a long time owner of phpAuction code, friend of, and helper with development (suggestions, testing), count me in for any help I can give with this project.
Bam didn't ask you for any free code or unencrypted source. He just offered to help. That might be testing on your box, or suggestions or whatever. Give the guy the benefit. Anyway I am not going to register over there to get similarly lambasted.

Feel free not to reply if you don't want to (or can't) continue the discussion here, I understand.

Good luck with your project

Matt

@memobug ... please, next time, forget to use the content of another site to fill your posts...

AND... if you think i'm Neanderthalian, just forget me... i'm not a kid or a teen... my discussions don't concern you if you're not participating.

WhisperPntr 11-04-2004 07:11 AM

I was interested in an auction script as well... but anyways calling someone a lamer isn't what I'd call mature...

allandk 11-04-2004 07:17 AM

it's being made here http://acmsoft.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=4

i'm not gonna talk about this integration here anymore. received too much comments from non-serious guys that are here only to talk about their omnipotent power to be ...

serious people are able to distinct between commercial and beggar work.

Are you ever going to shut up? We get it already. You are the master of all code. The engineering king! We bow to your greatness and promise to never question you or offer help. :tired:

Colin F 11-04-2004 01:01 PM

Everyone: deep breath :surprised:

Try to keep it nice and pleasant and please discuss personal problems per PM or email

Thanks :)

nexialys 11-04-2004 01:03 PM

hum.. .btw... full phpAuction is 482$USD, i suppose you will complain because the tool is not free ?!

vbAuction is about 100$... stolen code from another cgi-Auction software that is 260$, and not even able to provide support for their tool, as said by version2 ...

i'm trying to deal with phpAuction guys to lower the code price, just for you... so please, stop pecking on me...

--discussion closed btw!

Dunno if this site has been mentioned, if so excuse my ignorance:

http://www.phpbb-auction.com/

I've used it at another site, worked very well.
