I got one better .... Port http://cafelog.com/ B2 blog to each user in the forums.

Personal catagory with user name the member can only post in their own but can choose if other members may reply or not on a submission post.

Make B2 use VBCODE, smiles, VB user base ... Basically rip out the user fields and recode a few files to VB standards. ?

Why reinvent the wheel.. less code to figure out ... ect .. It offers rss feed and all that good stuff.

Could also leave blog intack and make a addon that when you reg @ the forums some of the same info is added to the blog tables.

There would also have to be some code to update user info. I would have the forums update the blog tables.

There will need to be a "login" made to login/out @ the same time.

just ideas.

AN-net 05-01-2004 03:20 PM

how much do you guys really want to be able to attach things in this journal hack?

it would be a nice usergroup dependent action.

most of them type of sites run on the livejournal code, i'm sure that could be ported over to php (if it hasn't been already) then made to work for vB

  • ability to easily add/remove Journal moderators in admin cp
  • ability to disable private entries in admin cp
  • a "report" feature for lurkers to notify the moderators
  • link from user postbits through to user's jorunal
  • some sort of paged organization, either by month or number of entries
  • search capabilties (of some kind)
  • a "last edited by" forced feature that shows if user edited journal or if moderator took action
  • integration with a common user warning system (yes, I know this would be a huge pain)
  • ability to list or display journals in order of who is most active/popular in last week or month (not since beginning)
I know these are some crazy requests, but since this is an open call for suggestions I thought I would just put down some ideas. Again, thanks for the work on Journals.

  • allow "ignore" function to be active in journal area
  • ability for journal moderators to block or de-activate a specific poster's ability to use the journal area (similiar to forum-specific suspensions)
  • ability for journal moderators to lock a specific poster's journal (without suspending the actual poster)
  • ability for journal writer to decide if they do not want replies to a specific entry
  • restrict the length of journal entries to match the number of characters allowed in normal posts (or allow a separate maximum length for journal area)
  • ability for people to convert from other journals/blogs and transfer all of their material to the message board's journal area (I know it is crazy request, but people always ask for it)
I just offer these comments, feel free to sort out which (if any) are useful or relevant. Again, thanks for the work with journals.

AN-net 05-02-2004 01:39 PM

that is alot to ask for>_>

sabret00the 05-03-2004 07:42 AM

heh, it was from a collated list :)

but a great list :)

i haven't even mentioned the store integration for custom blocks yet :nervous:

:o :o :o

spence2 05-08-2004 03:49 PM

Hope we haven't scared you away from completing this hack!

How is it coming along? Any updates?

fyi, i was in no way demanding them features, to the best of my knowledge most of them were to be featured in kura's paid Journal system, i was just making sure they were here, if you want to add em, it'd be appreciated but it's in no way a neccessity.

msimplay 05-09-2004 07:03 PM

no way am i gonna pay for a journal :)

Oblivion Knight 05-10-2004 08:26 AM

I'm trying to fix up the currently released port of vBJournal 1.1b to make it much more stable and usable.. Progress on this can be found at EvB, and all being well should be released by the end of next week..

I'm however having a couple of problems with this, and would appreciate any help that anyone can provide.

Yeah, it's code related.. :disappointed:
The only way I could fix it is by studying showthread.php for hours and hours and see how jelsoft do it by default, which I don't really fancy doing to be honest.!

sabret00the 05-10-2004 09:21 AM

from what i read of your problem (post, not code) you might be able to do a dirty fix with a conditional and a $clause in the query so

PHP Code:

if (&page >= 1) {
$clause  blah 1
} else {
$clause blah
}

// then have the query down here
SELECT (*)
FROM journal_entry
WHERE journalid
$bbuserinfo[userid]
AND
$clause

lol na i mean theres some things i would pay for but journal isnt one of em
i don't mind giving my appreciation in the way of donations but paying for a journal i don't think thats worth it as its only useful as an addon script

coupled with that if i wanted to use a seperate script i'd just get a free blogger

spence2 05-12-2004 05:44 AM

AN-net,

Are you still working on this? If so, how is it coming along?

AN-net 05-12-2004 08:26 PM

im still tinkering with it and i am also still bit occupied with my paid project but i hope to resume this project fully soon:)

kerplunknet 05-15-2004 04:06 AM

Sooner the better. :/

AN-net 05-19-2004 03:17 PM

is as one still interested in this hack?

Cold Steel 05-19-2004 03:32 PM

Yes, I am.

spence2 05-19-2004 04:28 PM

An-NET...I think one of the ways to judge interest in this hack is by the installs of the vB2 Journal system.

A lot of the people who want/need this hack have quit posting because so many people announced they were releasing their journal hack "soon"....and again and again no one followed-through actually doing the hack. Lots of promises from at least half-a-dozen hackers, but nothing ever released even in beta.

So, is there interest? Sure! Lots of interest in actual hack...but not much interest in building up hopes and being disappointed again.

Oblivion Knight 05-19-2004 08:40 PM

AN-net, I plan on switching to your journal script from the current beta journal package available at EvB. Hopefully there is some way in which the entries can be carried over.?

Interest still remains very high for a decent, stable and bug free Journal hack..

nicholas 05-19-2004 08:41 PM

Aye! AN-net, everyone is eagerly, eagerly awaiting your release.

Thanatos 05-19-2004 09:42 PM

Still interested..providing I Can port over from the existing journal hack into yours :)

Same here...ditto to spence2 as well. I might have to code something myself if nothing comes around soon. :dissapointed:

kerplunknet 05-20-2004 03:31 AM

Please finish/make this hack AN-net. :)

y2krazy 05-20-2004 07:14 AM

I am, in additon to my members, very interested in getting a Journal system up for vB3! I am looking forward to seeing you come out with a great hack for a Journal system! ^^

*eagerly awaits*

-y2k-

Oblivion Knight 05-20-2004 09:17 AM

There is a beta journal package currently available here:
http://www.everythingvb.com/showthread.php?t=148

Check the later pages for vBJournal 1.1c or vBJournal 1.2a
These packages are MUCH improved from the original port, and the main difference is template layout (demo of 1.1c here).

spence2 05-20-2004 05:17 PM

Please try to include a way to list all journals...displaying say 30 with a link to display the next 30, etc.

And "categories" would be wonderful; however, not if it means delaying the release.

Thank you very much for working on this! Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

TheComputerGuy 05-23-2004 04:17 AM

Good to see this has not died yet!

Chris M 05-25-2004 04:24 PM

AN-net - Are you still making this hack?

Satan

AN-net 05-25-2004 07:30 PM

but im experiencing problems with one of templates which is holding me up:(

see php/html forum on this for the problem is anyone wants to help;)

Chris M 05-26-2004 03:03 PM

Cool cool :)

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with :)

Satan

ZenithUK 05-28-2004 12:04 AM

Me too. I know it's hard work, but it's very very much appreciated.

I've been waiting for a journal hack for what seems like years. :D

AN-net 05-29-2004 12:44 AM

sorry but i have been having problems with it still and with my paid project. i have also been having some community issues on my site.

Robink 05-30-2004 05:56 PM

Can you atleast release a Beta version for us who've been starving for this journal for years? :)

Will you be making a script or give instructions on how to convert from Ryangel's VB2 journal to this one?
