Setup a vB3 testboard and learn your way around it. ;)

vB2 sucks compared to vB3.

MGM 01-19-2004 02:46 PM

yea, but vB3 is sooo much more advanced and confusing. It took me days to figure out the new style and template system >.<

I have yet to figure out how to use everything in the admin cp like I did with vB2, and I figured everything out with that in a matter of weeks -_-

MGM out

Marzas 01-20-2004 07:20 AM

i have vb 2, i'm just waiting for the store hack to come out on vb3... beacuse i have alot of hacks my members cant live without.

Zachery 01-20-2004 12:08 PM

there is already "a" store hack for vB3 but it is not "the" store hack

is that such a bad thing? first day i got the board i spent probally 5 hours just playing with options in beta 3 :)

lolwtfomgoic 01-23-2004 04:13 AM

I upgraded to VB RC 2, but my users really hate it alot. I like the admin features alot more like the ban option (i have to use it alot), but my users really really relaly hate it. Too a degree that there was a petition that everyone signed for them to switch back to VB 2. VB3's template system is way way too sophistacated, I missed the days of it taking a half hour to customize a VB2 board to a spiffy look, then the one month wait for VB3 to figure out its template system from hell. I hope the manual comes out soon

dude its the vB2 system wtih conditionals, nothing more :)

maybe a new appernce but not much else :)

what DONT your users like about it, ask them why. alot of people HATE Windows but there still using it? ok bad example but they dont know WHY they hate windows or why windows is always messing up 90% of the time its their own damn fault :)

but it only takes about 10 min to customize a board with vB3 with conditinoals it saves tons of hacking that would have needed to be done in vB2

i wont even work with vB2 boards if i can help it

Okiewan 01-23-2004 06:21 AM

How many members are complaining? You realize of course that no matter what, there are those that HATE CHANGE, rather it's better for them or not. I've spent the last month hammering on the beta's... vB3 is so much better than 2 there is no comparison, for the admin, or the user. They'll get over it.

Eh...vB3 templates are vB2 templates with weak inheritance, phrasing, and conditionals. It's much more than just conditionals.

MischiefThought 01-23-2004 12:36 PM

I dont like how slow-loading, css orientated the admincp is. It almost seems as if its eating bandwith like crazy.

lol yes, filburt i understand that but it really hasnt changed much since vB2 besides apperance and of course the templates are now as close to XHTML compatbility as possible

EvilLS1 01-23-2004 08:04 PM

I'll most likely be sticking with VB2 for several reasons.. 1) I've just now got comfortable with how VB2 works and writing code for it... 2) I've spent alot of time getting the look and feel of my forum exactly how I want it... and 3) If it ain't broke, why fix it?

I have VB3 running on my PC and it is nice.. But I'm happy with my VB2 so I'm sticking with it.

there are sum bugs in vB2 that cant ever be fixed

writing code for vB2 is meh, im much more confortable with vB3 i learnd on it and from what ive looked at in vb2 vB2 looks and is sorta sloppy. in comparsison.

Why stay with the old?
thats like we have a microwave from 1976 lets keep it instead of buying one that can cook popcorn in under 2 min vs 10 min

its not broke dont fix it :) its not a good slogan for everything ;D

As of right now there's not any that really concern me. I've manually added all of the security fixes myself, and the other minor bugs don't really bother me. Besides, I'm sure there's plenty of undiscovered VB3 bugs aswell. As long as you use ANY forum software bugs are something that you'll just have to deal with.

'Cause I'm happy with it. The day that I become UNhappy with it is the day I'll upgrade. But like I said, right now VB2 is just fine for me. :)

cirisme 01-23-2004 09:45 PM

Upgraded the live forum today, things went remarkably smoothly(maybe cause I tested it a million times and documented all the changes :p) and my users are well pleased. And it's awesome...

I haven't noticed any slowness with the admin cp.

And I think my bandwidth is just fine as well.

But I will not be going back to vB2, purely because I love the vBulletin 3 template system, it's much more organized and I can customize all of my styles simultaneously.

Not to mention how organized the code is, I've noticed that installing hacks is actually easier than installing them on vB2. Don't ask why, it just feels easier, ya know?

italks 01-24-2004 08:24 AM

right now i am using vb2 but sure i will go for vb3 only problems is skinning will have to do it.Also i got licensed just today so new for me no probs but i have used vb2 in past so its good for me to currently use vb2.

anyone who is just starting really shouldnt start with vB2

MGM 01-24-2004 05:41 PM

That's what I was going to say. If you just bought a license, you might as well start with vB3 RC3, it'd be the best route to take. Going back and using vB2 really wouldn't work out well for you in the future, even if you have had some experience using it in the past

I like VB2 for all the skins hacks. I recently loaded VB3 on a local system to mess around with it since my board members don't like downtime even for a better board =/. But VB2 has so many mempires, and even thought VB3 is better and faster it won't replace VB2 it will just make VB2 less on demand and then they will stop.

just becase there are more hacks for vB2 doesnt mean anything

there are alot less needs for hacks in some way for vB3

alot of things are done by default, plus at vBT weve been doing template mods since beta 3 :)

DarkSavior 01-25-2004 10:49 PM

I might check vB3 out someday, but for now I'm staying with vB2. Will probably switch over when the equivalent hacks are out for it. :)

cnczone 01-25-2004 10:58 PM

NO! I see no reason to stay with VB2.

what hacks do you need? lol there gettin ported rather fast :)

DarkSavior 01-26-2004 12:24 AM

They might be available already, I'm not sure, I haven't really checked vB3 area. Mainly the RPG hack and stuff.

i highly doubt to see a free full RPG system released for vB3 :)

DarkSavior 01-26-2004 12:33 AM

Well that's one reason for me to stay in vB2 then. ;)

Zachery 01-26-2004 12:33 AM

Not to knock on bitsys, he did an awsome job, but there are alot better options out there ;)

Lady Ginasue 01-26-2004 02:19 AM

I had planned on staying with VB2, wasn't going to give it up, and then I made a GOOF I had thought I was making a test board, and uploaded vb3 to it. Well it overwrote my database and yes I had saved my database, but when I got into really looking at the vb3 I found that it wasn't that hard to redo all my styles.

Today I finished my fourth style set and I had only did the upgrade yesterday afternoon.

http://www.kindredskulls.com/Forum/upload/index.php if you want to see what I've done so far on it.

dethfire 01-28-2004 05:49 AM

just waiting for final and then I'll upgrade

linuxfactors 01-28-2004 01:55 PM

i'll go for vb3, dont think i'll upgrade one of my vb2 board though, too many content on it, but my new board will defenitely be vb3

sifuhall 02-03-2004 10:27 PM

Want a great reason for sticking with VB2 until VB3 is out of beta?

From vbulletin.com:

If you install vBulletin 3 and have major problems, our support staff are likely to ask you to install vBulletin 2 instead and to only upgrade to vBulletin 3 when the final release is made.

Link14716 02-03-2004 10:36 PM

vB3 isn't in beta, and hasn't been since December 5th.

Still in RC (Semi Stable version ;))

If you have a major problem, both the community and the staff will do their best to support you though the forums but NOT the support ticket system :)

Link14716 02-03-2004 11:07 PM

Actually, the support ticket system started supporting vB3 at RC1 I believe.

Lost Prophesy 02-03-2004 11:40 PM

I am already on vB3 ... I miss many vB2 hacks such as Store, but I am sure they will be ported or remade someday. So it's all good. I love the new vB3 Arcade.

Store is at vBulletin.nl.

My quote about support is directly from the vBulletin site, and is still stated as such.

Are you sure they are now supporting vB3 and if so I think they should update their site to reflect such.

monstergamer 02-04-2004 04:32 AM

i well never switch back to VB2
i love VB3 so much

They have always been willing to do their best to support you on the forums, however i dont believe that they are using the support ticket system yet.

WaterTrooper 02-05-2004 07:44 PM

I plan to upgrade a few months after the final is out.
