wow, i really was not expecting a reply. i remember looking for this like a year ago, so i figured it was dead. anyways, i'm working on a high school site, and it'd be great to get all the clubs integrated into a single forum. hopefully, that application is sort of in the direction you're going?

and yup it's taken me ages just to get here, back when i thought of the idea as you can see it was for vB2, then vB3 came about and then i learned how to code a tiny bit and got the confessions hack semi working, then came the hacks i needed for my site so i was away doing that, that turned into a break from vBulletin all together and now i'm only just returning. my plan it to make a basic working version and then from there build it up into something special. |
well, my vision is this:
- all clubs have a section in the forum - each club has their own portal, w/ news loaded from a subforum, and calendar and modifiable sections. although, this could just be vbindex manually applied, or some other already made portal mod. - little icons signifying what club(s) you're in show up on postbits & profile, along with modified images for rank (ie, pres, treasurer, bulletin editor) - pages dynamically showing the forum roster for a club - application pages for each club that have what the club is about, and have fields for info. club leaders would then be able to approve/decline the applications. - the option have hidden forums only available to full-fledged members really, i could probably work these all out manually, but it would be REALLY nice to have them all streamlined, though. now that i think about it, i guess it wouldn't be that hard to make myself... edit: thing is, i don't really know how to integrate all these things into a control panel to make it easier for future admins to manage, once i get out of high school. i know php, but making it all tie in to the admincp would mean i'd have to learn more about coding for vb, and blargh. it'd help me out a lot if someone with more vb experience could figure it out. |
- all clubs have a section in the forum nope, that would've been simpler than what i'm trying to do, basically the groups are self contained, away from the forumhome, thus no forum
- each club has their own portal, w/ news loaded from a subforum, and calendar and modifiable sections. although, this could just be vbindex manually applied, or some other already made portal mod. each page will indeed have an index page - little icons signifying what club(s) you're in show up on postbits & profile, along with modified images for rank (ie, pres, treasurer, bulletin editor) not sure about postbit but profile although something in the drop down might be a good idea - pages dynamically showing the forum roster for a club forum roster? - application pages for each club that have what the club is about, and have fields for info. club leaders would then be able to approve/decline the applications. yep theirs an application page - the option have hidden forums only available to full-fledged members yup their'll be groups members only can read |
so there's no interaction between clubs?
i would have to do that for a high school site, esp. when it's hard to motivate people to sign up for a single forum. having a forumhome w/ all clubs would be the best way, in my situation, for users to intuitively tell they only have to sign up once, and that all the clubs are related to each other in some way. oh well. |

for those who were unappeased by the teams hack, which looks incredibly good btw
and sorry it's taken me so long to get even to this stage, too many ideas flowing from me only thing i gotta do on the main script is the additional viewing options and the 'my groups bit, but with the latter as i wanna do something special there i'm gonna delay that, so now i'm gonna start on the viewing page/individual page bit |
Are we gonna be able to moderate the groups? Also, can we have them have special themes that they can edit?
FRIGGIN SWEET! (did I mention this already?) |

at the moment the script is built in such a way that groups must be moderated, although you should've just checked the screenie :p (that was a joke btw incase my tone came across all aggressive).
regarding personalised themes, the plan at the moment is to have mini-headers on group pages, basically it'll be a small strip with your sites logo/name then navigation. then from there you'd be able to personalise by (what i'm hoping for anyway) is overwriting the css colour variables, that's the plan, however it's gonna be a while off, i've gotta actually get it fully working in it's most basic form before i get to the advances features of which that i consider. as soon as i get the group page made i'll post a screenie, in terms of getting the pages done (working, not final with all features) i'm around a third of the way, as i said i got a bit to work on with the index. i.e "my groups" bit, and the different display for full group browsing. |
DOH! I did look but missed that completely obvious point!
Post your paypal link when you are ready, I am dying for this!! -Jason |
as soon as it's finished i'll post up the link for you :)
i'm hoping to get a bit batch of thsi done over the next week, hopefully i'll get to the point where i just have to do all the advanced features, i'm pretty sure i'm making it harder on myself going about it the way i am but who knows, basically i just wanna be left with having to add the permissions system, personalised look, etc, oh and i still gotta look into how the wysiwyg editor works. |
hm, i guess this could work for my purposes too. i'll be awaiting your clubs hack then...
edit: and i need this asap, so if you could... work. faster? :ermm: whatever, don't mind me. |

How are we doing? I hope our hack author didnt party too hard over the holiday :)
Question. Does this use the current member groups system? I am thinking of opening some member groups but dont want to if they wont import under this system. Thanks! -Jason |
not hard enough ;) hope you had a good one.
it uses it own member group system independant of the stock vboption. |

When do you think this will be out? Weeks, months? I am thinking of starting my groups (a few) but if this is close to working then I will definately wait. The current groups system just peaves me. So much possibility but very little implementation. |
Hey, I just realized this thread is in the VB2 mods section. This is for 3+ right? We should get it moved!
|
yup it's for vB3

progress report, got the discussion bit coded, just need to code into that the pagenav.
got the main page coded too got the admin moderation sorted got the index coded and just need to implement the 'my groups' bit basically just gotta code the edit post bit. convert main groups management page from textarea to vBeditor code the bit to join and leave groups oh and the group leader moderation and that's it for the main part of the script, the rest is all add-on's like the profile and postbit integration. something like that anyway  |

timeframe don't ask, i'm about to enter several fields i've never ever even thought about doing before in order to complete this hack.
uShop support, that's a good idea, great idea infact, probably best released as an add-on though i will check, that'd be one of the last things to add if i ship it as a stock option. extra forums, this hack is currently set up to support one 'thread' per group, though it might emerge at a later date that theirs an add-on to add forums or multiple threads, it's not an option for this release due to the fact that this part of the script is modelled on Yahoo! Groups functionality rather than MSN Groups. Screenshot of the discussion bit. |
another progress report because i'm all excited
got the discussion bit fully coded now bit coded now bar the pagenav. still need to implement the 'my groups' bit converted all textarea's to vBeditor still need to fix the quick reply issue though sort out group members moderation, shouldn't be too hard sort out script to log post edits (maybe) do permissions and then optional add-on's like the profile and postbit integration and store points usage. it's getting very close i hope :) |

thankyou very much |
Yay another progress report
Stuff still to do
as you can see i've not managed to make the list dwindle much at all as i got stuck (fixed now thanks to marco), but i'm back on track and am hoping to finish the whole of the front-end by the end of tomorrow (not including the postbit and profile integration) then it's onto admin scripts, at the moment it's looking like a quick install too. although i'm pretty sure i'll have to edit the many occurances of "../forums" but bar that a few queries, a super amount of templates which is set to grow Code:
* GROUPS [Edit] [Revert] [View Original] |
very nice .. i really waiting this MOD to be Released as soon as u can .. and i will be the first one to test it ..
thankyou for this hard work .. and keep the good work up. Peace. |
should be about five days now (till the beta, i'm hoping 2 days will beenough beta testing ) anyway i just got the boring ++++ to do likecatergories and searching, it wouldn't even be too boring but it'smaking all the whiles and templates for it. oh yeah (to remind myselfmainly) i still gotta dig up the 3 line pagenav code.
that means; # group member moderation done # permissions done although untested # done admin scripts stuff which may delay the release as i haven't quite done yet is theuShop Integration (although not quite sure if trackpads still wantsthis hack thus still wants that feature, saying that if it was all doneas an add-on you could charge people for the ability to make theirgroups private, the ability to moderate members, etc, etc). profile and postbit integration still aint done either, i'm not quitesure what to do with these two bar add a link to pop up "all of theirgroups" oh and ofcourse i gotta remove the abundence of commented out code lol |
Quote:
thankyou |
i didn't code anything all week :o
got way too busy and kinda found some other stuff i need to code (to do with this that i totally forgot about) :( so their'll be a slight delay. |
