Northern L.A. County. Antelope Valley region. My Mother-in-Law lives in OC though. We're down in the Mission Viejo / Rancho Santa Margarita area a lot.

nexialys 10-13-2007 09:26 PM

Marco van Herwaarden 10-14-2007 05:55 AM

The trick isn't learning the language, it's learning how to respond to the language;

"No you're not fat"
"You look great!" (don't say "fine" here, sometimes "Fine" is worse than "ugly" ;)).
"Of course you're right"
"I'm sorry" (make sure you know what you're sorry for, if you don't a best guess is alright if you guess right but worse than not knowing if you guess wrong. :().
"I like burned x" (x = whatever she cooked).

Marco van Herwaarden 10-14-2007 10:00 AM

Used the last (last 2 actually) frequently, but it didn't help much. :D

Freesteyelz 10-14-2007 10:04 AM

Or (for the male suicidals) you can say...

"Well, you married me so it's clear that you're incapable of making rash decisions."
"Remember? I'm from Mars?"
"It's ok dear, I still love the rest of you."
"Nah, I've seen bigger."

:D

Dean C 10-14-2007 10:25 AM

I don't speak French, but I do kiss that way ;)

Freesteyelz 10-14-2007 10:27 AM

Then you do speak a different tongue after all. LOL. :D

why ignorant ?

i speak english so i have no need to speak a foreign lanuage or have any desire to.
When i go abroad on holiday i dont really care if they understand me or if i understand them.So long as im the one waving the euro`s then i usually get what i want.

Has speaking another lanuage got u anywhere in life ? - has it made your life more fullfilled..........

Chris M 10-16-2007 02:18 AM

Yes :) lol

Yes actually... it has. :)

Michael Biddle 10-16-2007 03:06 AM

Lasto, this is one of the most ignorant post i have read in a long time. Being bilingual can make you a ton more money. Careers today are looking for people that know more then one language. The world needs less people with attitudes like you.

Here comes the debate! :)

Freesteyelz 10-16-2007 03:20 AM

I'm fairly competent in body language and tone of written language (such as reading between the lines). :) I wish I could say that for Japanese (I'm better at the spoken than written)...

Edited: I reversed written with spoken. Sigh...

Dean C 10-16-2007 05:29 AM

Speaking a foreign languages opens doors for you in all walks of life. I don't see where the debate is. It can means you make new friends, have new career opportunities and also it's an attractive trait for someone to have. Cultured, is the word.
