For more information you can go and visit the Hivemail forums... There is a lot of discussions about Hivemail and vBulletin integration.

Dean C 12-11-2002 06:24 PM

JulianD 12-11-2002 07:31 PM

I got mine too.... But I'll release it to my members when I can integrate both products, vB and Hivemail.

Dean C 12-12-2002 08:18 AM

I'd say the plug-in will be done just before xmas or just after :)

Chris M 12-12-2002 01:42 PM

DrkFusion 12-12-2002 07:36 PM

I don't know what you would integrate lol -_-

ManagerJosh 12-13-2002 05:15 AM

It would be perfect for vB3....with the usergroup features and perfect for user subscriptions :)

Dean C 12-13-2002 03:12 PM

The usergroup system won't be intigrated

Hivemail has its own unique usergroup system..

It has really nice web interface, but lacks a lot of features. It lacks "multiple domain support", even though they advertise as such. The idea behind it is to have several domains pointing to same site. Domain pointers support is sold out as "multiple domain support". For every domain you have, you have to buy a new licence.

It is a really nice effort, but the price is very high. I would pay as much as $50 for it, not more. From what I have seen so far in web-based email systems, Gossamer Mail takes the cake!!!

Dean C 12-16-2002 12:48 PM

I believe multiple domain support is on the way in the v1.2

Dean C 12-16-2002 12:50 PM

I think its something to do with the search google box thingys at the bottom of your page..

Set me up a test account and i'll investigate further..

There's no doubt that Gossamer Mail is a good product (although I'm not convinced it's worth $650).

I bought Gossamer Mail and I found it unsuitable for integrating into my forum. In fact I also own LinksSQL and it doesn't even integrate with that! My need was to offer webmail for two seperate sites with seperate vB forums only to certain vB usergroups which were different across those forums. Gossamer Threads actually provide a plugin that would work with one domain but it's not very clean or flexible. Even hiding one of the email domains from users on the other site required hacking.

It would have been much cheaper for me to get two HiveMail licenses and use their supported vB integration when it finally gets released (Chen, if you're reading this... hurry up :) )

So my opinion is that Gossamer Mail is great if you want to provide a full blown free email service to the world like Hotmail, but HiveMail is the best solution for providing webmail to your members on your forum.

Although GM does have some nice features that are lacking in HiveMail, such as SpamAssasin integration, but HiveMail is very new and it can only get better.

JulianD 12-31-2002 01:50 AM

Hivemail is cheap compared to other products of the same family... I don't know about Gossamer Mail, but I've tested Aliasmail and it sucks, compared to Hivemail.... Its price tag is a little high too, $500 USD for a license...

NTLDR 12-31-2002 11:26 AM

Compared with the only other paid webmail application I've used v-webmail (http://www.v-webmail.co.uk/purchase.php), which my host has installed, HiveMail is exelent value for money.

The installation process was simple, the code is very well commented which is a real help if you wish to hack it and for exisiting vB owners theres not too learn in order to use it :) So far I'm very impressed with it.

tpearl5 02-27-2003 01:54 AM

vB integration is finally here in 1.2 :) ::runs around room cheering::

Bought it last week. Chen has done a fantastic job here. I did the beta test for vb integration. He was extremely helpful to me, as he is with his with everyone, and I haven't regretted for one moment my purchase.

Sebastian 02-27-2003 07:41 AM

too expensive for regular use. Great if your going to sell email accounts. I use horde mail when I travel. It has tons of features, and it came with my cpanel 6.0.

You've done a good job integrating it into your forums. :) I'm impressed, and I'm sorely tempted to try it at my forums. I would only give it out to site supporters.

Does this put a lot of overhead on your server load?

Dean C 02-27-2003 03:53 PM

Looks great Smoothie! I'm interested on the server load too ?

Smoothie 02-27-2003 05:42 PM

We first added hivemail as the non-integrated version, so members had to manually sign up. Now that its integrated, when new users sign up, their email acct is automatically created. The amount of new email users is really starting to climb. They can sign up at registration, or later, its up to them. It's really quite nice.

As far as server loads go, I haven't seen any spikes, it's running pretty low.
I'm on a dedicated box, and so far so good. There is no real way of judging how many users are sending/receiving at the same time, but we haven't noticed any problems to this point.

This is where we are at now, with 75 online:
Load Averages: 0.45 : 0.31 : 0.30

Mephisteus 02-27-2003 09:56 PM

I would love to have hivemail, but I simply can't spare the cash yet...

Dean C 03-02-2003 11:05 AM

Sounds good Joe! :D
