Willard Reece 10-24-2002 12:01 AM

I made a post on my site and started using the new buttoms and info it lets you use and all of a sudden norton poped up and said I had a virus, so I went and did a scan on the zip and the unziped files and was clear.!

Willard Reece 10-24-2002 12:24 AM

I am going to use this to be able to keep on using the hack,

Security fix
Open the vbcode_buttons template. Replace the entire contents with the contents of the attached zip file.

Then, in your Admin Panel click on "Modify" under the "Custom vB Codes" section. Remove the following vB codes:
? Flash
? Wave Files
? RAM Files

What this does:
This fix removes the ability for users to post Flash files in threads. (A potential security risk.) In my case, I've also removed WAV files (because they can be plain annoying) and RAM files (because these are rarer, and also plain annoying).

You're trippin bro! If you don't want to install the guys hack then don't plagiarize the guys work ... this is a fabulous piece of work here ... k?

Man ... smoking crack is bad for you! Let the man who created the hack do his work! If someone gots probs with this hack, let him handle it.

If you like, create one simular to his, and post it. You're stealin the guys thunder here and being a disrespectful peep!

And kill the noise about a virus ... I aint found one so what's up with dat?

Goldknight 10-24-2002 01:25 AM

actually HiSquad's hack is best one but John.evoie want to warn everyone about flash but as for wav or ram, it is ok to use.

If I go ahead and register at any board that support flash and I ll swipe the admin password under nose without notice what I did. It is so simple. Thats why John concern about that. That s all.

Bison 10-24-2002 01:37 AM

But doesn't the file extension have to be registered (accepted) as a legitimate file (attachment) upload before you can perform this?

Goldknight 10-24-2002 02:22 AM

Yes you are right but I can fake email address, fake username and everything else then I got the permission to use the attachment and swipe. It is really sticky situation, thats why many hackers refuse to make any hack that can support flash like avatar and few things.

Willard Reece 10-24-2002 03:37 AM

You know Rolodex
You opened your mouth.
I'm not downing his hack.. I just said I downloaded it and installed it and when I went to use it .
My norton popped up and said it had a virus.
OK!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as what you are saying It pissed me off when someone jumps in like you have and says this.

And if you had read my post you would have seen that I ask if anyone else saw this in the zip.

I never once said I didn't like or appreciate the hack.
but there is 1 thing and it is the sound that is in it when you go to your admin area to edit the bbcode.

As far as the remark on crack goes I don't use it and don't like the term either.

Bison 10-24-2002 04:03 AM

Well you should have stated that this may be an isolated issue. You're not the one that I have the comment about. It's the other guy who's exciting fear into everyone here. his approach was terrible ... not contacting the author about this issue and creating a fix for everyone and making the guy look bad.

Your situation could have been on your side of the coin. Try scanning your computer first and your downloads before storing them on your pc. You should have caught this before opening the file.

Also you may have your scan settings to high which could have gave you a false alarm. I use norton 2003 pro and accept downloads with Flashget (Which I have it scan the files after downloading).

Better to perform these procedures before announcing something that you didn't take the precautions to check before posting it on the the board. It only adds to the fire here with the other gentlemans comment.

Respect the hackers here cause thay are the one's who beautify your boards without asking for a red cent from anyone. All they want is a "thank you" and a click in the upper right hand corner of your browser!

If you have any comments about their work they mostly provide assistance and that means a lot to me to see someone who sweat it out and also provide assistance! I'm a Developer myself and I know how they feel!

Willard Reece 10-24-2002 04:16 AM

About the only thing you said here that I didn't do is scan the file before opening it.
I run the norton scan dailey on my pc and I also use 2003pro.
I had just ran norton about 2 hours before I downloaded the hack too. and my hd was good to go.

as far as repecting the writer of any hack, I thank them for it.
and as you say they the hackers keep our sites looking great with the new features they make.

when you said kill the noise about the virus I took it you were talking to me about the whole comment you wrote.

Anyway enough said. I like the hack and will keep on using it.
It does make thing easier on my site.

Tell me who is this virus :pirate:

Mr_P 10-24-2002 10:10 AM

no virus in it at all

anyway im a wondering hisquad if this is possible.
remove the flash bit for normal members but if your admin then u see the box with the flash in it.
I dont want members to upload flash wherever for security reasons or anything else but would still like the option for admins to have this.

HiSquad 10-24-2002 10:19 AM

Thanks Mr.Mr_P

But no one can hack any forums my flash except flash with action script.

Gooooooooood Luck

Willard Reece 10-24-2002 01:28 PM

HiSquad and guys

I might have found what caused this to look like a virus.
My isp move me to a new server yesterday morning and when I installed this hack, it might have set off something that was on the new server , for they have said they found a virus on it too.
I don't know how this could work like this but viruses work real strange sometimes.

And also to clear up my posting after thinking about it is, this only happened when I went to use it after I installed it. So not on my harddrive but on the server.

So I could be wrong about the zip being inflected.!!!!!

Bison 10-24-2002 03:19 PM

LMAO!!! :D Classic, do you really talk like that?

Re: the custom branded page, I just pointed out something that a lot of users might like to be aware of. Also, allowing users to post flash files poses a serious security risk. HiSquad didn't tell anyone in his original post, so I did the decent thng and alerted people to the problem.

Mr_P 10-24-2002 03:54 PM

LOL ok we suzzed is no virus and never was one now can anyone tell me if this is possible

No ... you're a classic jerk and I can tell from your remark you have this classic idea on how people should talk. Sounds pretty racist ... so what's the proper way?

The decent thing would have been to contact him on this without discrediting him inside his thread. As you see, no one's listening to you because they see what I see ... a lack of disrespect in your way of communication.

John 10-24-2002 04:16 PM

how am I supposed to be racist when you don't even know which race I am?!

I did tell him about the security risk with flash. People add their own ideas, modifications, etc. to people's threads all the time. What makes this any different?

People can talk how they like, but if we're being technical you accused me of taking drugs - possibly something that a classic jerk would say ;)

Mr_P 10-24-2002 06:43 PM

ok if someone reads this request can they make it so mods and admins are only ones to see the flash code and no one else sees it.

John 10-24-2002 06:45 PM

How about if mods and admins are the only ones allowed to post flash files? :)

Yeah lol its what im after if possible

Lets face it if mods/admins aint trustworth who is ?

Hmm forget i just said that :)

Still would like the hack if possible

Tigga 10-25-2002 11:39 PM

A very nice hack, but I would recommend anyone using it remove both of the sound links too. They're nice features, but that means anytime someone attaches a music file, that file is constantly preloading everytime someone loads that page. That can be hell on dialup users... Or if the music file is on your server it will be like someone is downloading the entire file every time someone loads that page. I'm sure those features will be useful for some sites, but I would think it best not to include them on most.

NeRilkA 10-27-2002 09:14 PM

bravo :) great hack

but ...

the code replacement for the sound is not complete :

Quote:

<param name="BACKGROUNDCOLOR" <br /><embed src="{param}" align="baseline" border="0" width="275" height="40" type="audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin" console="Clip1" controls="ControlPanel" autostart="true">
<b
as you can see, you have to change the bbcodereplacement field in the bbcode table to TEXT so there is no more limitation and it works anyway...

so please can you give us the complete code replacement ???

thanks

Merjawy 10-27-2002 10:38 PM

no it won't load as anyone loads the page IF you changed the autostart like me to =false

autostart=false

ethics 10-27-2002 11:52 PM

Very nicely done. I also appreciate the security posts. If nothing else, it offers everyone a choice whether to run with or without the Wav/Ram/Flash.

Kudos to all!

One silly question. In using Opera Browser the buttons are just grey unpressed buttons on top with no graphics/text.

Any ideas?

Not true... I tried that because I was thinking the same thing at first. I had a post with a 72 mb MP3 linked with the code and the next day I had gone over 50 gb of bandwidth on my MP3 server. Whether it is set to autoplay or not, it will still preload that file every time someone loads that page.

Misunderstood you.. I take it back.. in this case you are correct .. I was talking about playing.. but sure enough it will load non the less and that can be a major boobo with something like MP3s or large wav unlike streamed audio !!!

good point

Willard Reece 10-29-2002 12:18 AM

How about an uninstall for this hack????

Tigga 10-29-2002 06:32 AM

Willard - Revert your vbcode_buttons to the original template and upload the original vbcode.js and vbcode_language to your forums directory.

geniuscrew 11-21-2002 10:59 AM

Very nice - especially the buttons!

Thanks HiSquad!

HiSquad 11-21-2002 03:01 PM

Welcome

In this week I will put Version 3 here

msimplay 03-12-2003 02:31 AM

i haven't installed the hack yet but as i see it maybe setting ram files and wavfiles and links instead of inside the forum would be a better option because of bandwidth and same for flash ?

ok i just edited this post cuz i didn;t want to add another one and waste posts
anyway i just installed it, and i think the glow and shadow buttons could use some improvement eg, theres no color variation, eg [shadow=blue]text here[/shadow]

[glow=green]text here[/glow]

and could use a spoiler tag

example can be seen at my site

http://www.wambam.net/Vbulletin/show...p?threadid=201

however my button layout looks messy so i wanted to replace ur version and plus ur version has more features
