Hi @Naijasite - can you send me a PM or email support@threadloom.com with your forum URL so our team can take a look?

Andreas 04-24-2017 07:39 PM

Hmm ...

vs.
http://www.webpagetest.org/result/170424_2R_1F4K/

Both tests were done from a test location in California while our servers are located in Germany, we are using HTTPS and babyforum.de is about 2.8 times bigger than Baby Bargains (which does not use HTTPS) - shouldn't your product be a lot faster than our search?

Hi @Andreas - Threadloom will load faster than vB search on most forums, but I'm guessing that you're running on a pretty fast server. The nice thing is that Threadloom is easy to install and you can demo before going live. We've added a side-by-side preview mode that allows you to run a search in Threadloom and your legacy search simultaneously and watch the results load next to each other. You can see what it looks like on Baby Bargains.

Beyond speed, Threadloom has a bunch of other benefits like scaling to your search traffic (no spinning up additional servers when your traffic spikes), reducing your server traffic + associated costs, and spellcheck - ex: search for Maxi Cozi on Baby Bargains suggests Maxi Cosi but returns 0 results with standard search. And we're adding more...

Hope you'll give us a try. We like working with users, so let us know if you're interested and we'll be happy to talk through any questions you have.

Hey threadloom,
could you update your plugin for vbulletin phrases? Would be nice to translate it.

@seb5594 - thanks for the suggestion. We'll look into it, but translation is definitely on the roadmap either way.

Not to shame the developer or anything but there is currently a security issue with this plugin which allows any visitor to access any piece of content (thread, post, etc) stored in their database - the plugin does not currently honor vBulletin 4.x's permissions.

I wrote about the details here: https://www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=62245

As I wrote in that post:

Quote:

Workaround/Fix:

Wait for the threadloom team to address the vulnerability via a patch, in the mean time disable the plugin via the vBulletin admin control panel completely, and bring the /threadloom/ directory in your forum root directory into an inaccessible state. The threadloom team noted they will be disabling the search service on their end to cause an automatic fail-over to standard vBulletin search which in theory should prevent the vulnerability from being leveraged globally, however as of the time of this post that has not yet been activated.
The threadloom team has been in contact with me and are working swiftly to resolve the issue, just wanted to make sure other forum admins who aren't necessarily keeping an eye on their system have the latest information.

As a side note, the time that I have spent using the threadloom plugin I've seen a pretty well performing search engine, and the developers are extremely friendly and active and it really does seem like a great product to replace the aging vBulletin search core, if anyone had any thoughts about any of that. I'll be re-enabling the product on my own forum once the issue has been addressed.

xyd 05-20-2017 04:42 AM

Update: Developer confirms patch has been published and thus the issue resolved.

@xyd: Just wanted to thank you for reporting this issue and offer a brief summary for other admins. The issue affected vBulletin sites that had private forums that were viewable and searchable, but whose thread content were not viewable. Prior to Friday?s fix, it was possible for threads from those forums to show up in Threadloom search snippets. As soon as we confirmed the bug, we updated the Threadloom backend to stop sending search results to vBulletin customers, in order to trigger an automatic failover to standard search. We released an updated plug-in (v2.0.8) a few hours later. We've notified affected customers; all new sign-ups will receive the latest version of Threadloom. Protecting privacy is very important to us and we will work hard to prevent this from happening again.

threadloom 05-23-2017 07:30 PM

Hi @RichieBoy67 - we moved this under the 'forum' filter.

Hm, you shouldn't see empty space where the categories box used to be. Results should be left aligned like you see here. I PMed you to follow up on your site if you want us to take a look.

The new drop-down style has a few advantages over the left-side pane that we hope you'll like.
  • Multi-select support so you can search for posts across multiple forums at the same time
  • Live editing so you can add and remove forums without clicking back
  • Text-input with type-ahead so you can search for a forum more quickly

Threadloom Site Search is working well on my site http://www.spyidea.com/threadloom/th....php?query=seo

I would like to use Threadloom search box to replace default Vb serch box. But i want the searchbox to be below my Navbar. i want the serchbox to be as wide as Threadloom search box.

Please any procedure to achieve this?

threadloom 06-24-2017 08:24 PM

Caps request time to ensure that site performance does not degrade due to API backend latency or outages.

Improvements
  • Real-time index update API request length is capped so forum visitors don't experience delays when saving changes.

Fixes
  • Corrects an error message sent to Threadloom when the plug-in cannot properly encode data.

Hi @Naijasite: You can find instructions for adding a Threadloom search box to non-search pages in vB4 here: https://support.threadloom.com/hc/en...s/115010335228

Am I doing something wrong here? Installed the Product, used the code provided to add the search bar... when I perform a search I get the default vb search page. Plugin is installed, all info is correct, and active.

threadloom 07-20-2017 12:57 PM

Hi concepts, this will only work after your site has been indexed. I'll send you an email so we can take a closer look at your account.

Just wanted to take a second to give this tool a big thumbs up. Incredibly easy to install, site crawled within 24 hours as advertised, amazingly accurate search results. Leaps and bounds improvement over the crappy vBulletin search option.

Very impressed!

I second this

my site took about 30 hours, but it was still around 500k posts an hour. Plus given the ability to add customized search results is going to make a big difference overall

Kudos to Paul at Threadloom for wonderful communication during this process.

IggyP 01-05-2018 08:25 AM

also must say after taking a peek on this i agree with what others are saying and encourage everyone to take a look if you havent already.....in particular any image sites that want searchable content, can be a bit of a game changer.

smooth install and great support as well....nice work :)

really great to see....things like this modern addition is even more towards what is making vb4 surpass vb5 functionality and keeping it one of the best platforms to build off these days.

thank you :)

For a large forums, is better than digitalocean spinsh search?
What about "last threads of a user"?

I'm not exactly familiar with what you are referring to, sphinx search by chance? Can you link me to some more documentation.

That said, most of the forum searches are not as tweaked and user focused due to the complexity of Search itself. With Threadloom Search you have all the tweaks and user focused content built in.

For the "last threads of a user" that still will relay on your server/site to retrieve that. You can search by user with our add-on, you can modify the templates to do what you are asking to do.

Would love to give you a demo, would you like to test it out?

threadloom 11-16-2018 08:50 PM

Over the past week, some customers have reported slow search speeds with Threadloom Search. We've reproduced the issue and can confirm that this is an issue with our infrastructure.

Over the past year, Threadloom Search has grown rapidly to serve tens of millions of users. As a result, we have been migrating to a more scalable solution that combines Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Elastic Cloud.

As part of this migration, some customers are experiencing faster search speeds, while others have been impacted by configuration and production issues that have resulted in slow search speeds. This occurs primarily during US daytime hours.

We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. In addition to tackling the aforementioned issues, we are in the process of quintupling the number of cores in our deployment.

As we work through this issue, you may notice some delays to real-time indexing, and periodic interruptions to your cloud sync. This is normal, but if you have any concerns or questions, feel free to reach out to us via email or chat. We will also post updates here as we make progress.

In the meantime, if your site is affected by slow search speeds, please feel free to toggle Threadloom Search off in the your Admin Control Panel (Options > Threadloom). However, we would like to ask customers to continue to keep cron jobs active, in order to help us with our troubleshooting.

Finally, for all paying customers of Threadloom Search, we are issuing credits to cover the rest of 2018 (this month and next month).

We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience and understanding.

hello,
i had this installed and working nicely on a project.....then we moved to a new server and url...
i still have some random fixing of everything to do, but i might need some help with this one...

for one thing, i assume some of the infos @ portal.threadloom.com would need to be changed...however the page is giving me a 404....

how can i change the url?

thank you

threadloom 03-06-2019 12:02 PM

I hope we were able to help you IggyP.

We are looking for some feedback on our latest offerings with Search and Newsletter. Would anyone be interested in testing a few items out for us?

threadloom 11-06-2019 09:35 PM

Threadloom Search is now available as a supplemental option to the native forum search

In addition to various fixes and improvements, this update includes a new feature that lets your forum members choose (and save) Threadloom Search or your native forum search engine as their default search engine. You no longer have to choose between the two – your members can have both. As an admin, however, you are able to set either option as the default search engine for new visitors to your forum. You can learn more from our blog post here.

If you’d like to learn more about this feature please check out our Help Center articles:

I've found a bug - if you search for all posts by a user (returns a vb search by default) then select "Switch to threadloom search results" it returns a blank query.

Edit - on further examination, threadloom_shell template has been coded using vbulletin3 syntax - <if instead of <vb:if etc.

Also any chance of getting {vb:raw headinclude_bottom} included so I don't have to edit it in when the themplate is updated?
