New version works ok for me, only I don't see recent popular searches, but I don't know if they would be shown over time, so maybe it's everything fine.

You may not have enough searches yet. If you set it to one day does it display anything?

Alan_SP 07-01-2014 12:27 AM

I've set it to month and still couldn't see any. But, it could be ok, my forum isn't very large.

nick-harper 07-08-2014 07:35 PM

Is there a way to stop it from showing in a popup and show it inside my template or is that against the rules?

Ignore me, my change to full width hadn't saved!

nick-harper 07-08-2014 07:44 PM

How long is it before ads appear?

The mod doesn't add additional cookies. I would clear your browser cache and try again.

Shouldn't take too long. Make sure you have ads enabled in gsc per the install instructions above

nick-harper 07-08-2014 08:36 PM

I have done this:

Click the "Make money" tab, and make sure "Search Engine Monetization" is on and your AdSense account is hooked up

Then it says:

The account is associated with AdSense id:

Do I have to do anything within Adsense?

Link : http://www.skybluestalk.co.uk/gsearc...1&q=Watch+Dogs

I have nothing under : Custom search engines in Adsense

tpearl5 07-09-2014 01:10 AM

As long as it's showing an Adsense ID hooked up under the make money tab, you should begin seeing ads soon.

For some reason if you set up the search engine under Custom Search it doesn't show up in Adsense, but you'll see impressions under Performance reports > Products

Try this gsearch file. Just overwrite the one on your server.

That's what happens when you click on a link from a thread?

Honestly I have no idea why it's doing that. When you installed the latest version did you select 'allow overwrite' ?

I delete the old version and install the new

cric2k 07-11-2014 10:53 AM

Unfortunately I don't think it is picking up Google search terms to populate the link on the first post - a quick search has told me that Google have stopped passing search terms into their query strings, which is where the plug in tries to read from.

Right, this is only if the user is logged into Google and using https, which most people are lately. This is also why the thread title is inserted if it can't get the query, which is pretty effective.

My guess something is getting saved or uploaded incorrectly or I'm still not doing something right with rtl.

Right, and with the last update I accounted for different encoding.

What do you have in the "See More HTML" and "See More text" fields?

I did this

Strangely there is no problem with English titles

Marv 07-14-2014 08:48 AM

Hi tpearl,
always try before you buy ;)

I gave it a try on my httpd and so far it worked - almost - fine. But there is an issue with special chars, like the german ?,?,?,? or @ and € and so on. Sorry to say that, but it messes the whole search site up - from the header to the footer.
May be you could come up with a workaround for that? Would be nice. Thx!

Try the attached. Make sure to select 'allow overwrite'. I have no easy way to test this since I don't have a site that uses non-english characters.

Marv 07-14-2014 03:00 PM

Thanks tpearl, but this xml isn´t working. With this one the mod isn´t working at all. But - shouldn´t it be the gsearch.php, that needs the tweaking? Just wondering, no offense.

Okay, how about this? I'm thinking it has something to do with the characters not being saved correctly in the code that creates the see more link. gsearch just displays the page and has data passed to it. It already accounts for the character encoding of your site.

Thank you for trying to sort that out, tpearl. Unfortunal, the xml hasn?t changed anything.
If noone else can reproduce this, than may be the error is a local one on my end. But i can hardly believe that. It?s only happening on gsearch.php.

BTW: meanwhile I noticed, that the see more link is placed with the hook postbit_signature_start. Shouldn?t that be postbit_signature_end as default in the lite version? At least the link is displayed between the post and above the signature.

Can you post the URL of a see more link with special characters in it? Are you matching the character encoding on Google Search to that of your forum?

actually it doesn't use that hook at all in the lite version - it's appended to the post to place it after the signature.

Can you post the see more link too? Don't need the full URL just everything after and including gsearch.php

May be you got me wrong, tpearl. The search results from the custom search are perfect. The issue is only appearing in the header and in the footer. Parts, which are inlcuded by global.php.
My forum is using 8859-1. In the see-more-link the charset "8859-1" is referenced and thats working. But only for the custom search results - not for the part coming from global.php.
