To get around that, you could create a third group that has permission to access both forums.

I'm about this close from switching from UBB to vBulletin, but my main concern is extra profile features. It's no picnic to add them in UBB, but its possible, and I've added an extra 12 or so. I'd need a way (either through control panel or hacking directions) to do the same here. Otherwise, I'm sold.
|
I really think that this should be integrated into the control panel similar to how LinksSQL's is... So many people want/need this feature that i think it should be at the top of your list of things to add...

and though I lack the skills to do it, it seems like it would be a simple enough thnig to accomplish.
add a profiles section to the CP, and set up an "altertable" routine for the user info table with a script to write the added fields to the profile template. the admin could then adjust the template to show the field where they wanted it. One of the reasons I've been giving this so much thought is that I want to add an upload procedure for custom icons and sig images, that way I can control the size and weight issues :) anyway, someone tell me if I'm on the right track or not? |
well, you would probably need to alter the mysql table for the new info.
|
so what additional hacks do people want ?
most of them in the posts above have already been taken care of or are on the -to-do- list for a future vbulletin release. |
I would like to see a memberlist page where the members are listed in alphabetical order and you can view the top posters.

neat idea... will get working on it...
|
Parker - I already released that :) Look back a ways.
|
oops... didn't search prior to posting... one more down.... next ?
|
Oops. Sorry.

Forgive me, it's been a while since I first read this thread, and frankly I don't feel like re-reading it ;).
But I'd like to see the "Option To Have Signature Checked By Default In Profile" hack. Any thoughts on this? Has this been discussed at all? |
Jimbo,
At the moment, the signature box is checked automatically if there is a signature specified in the user's profile. Is this a suitable replacement for the other profile option that you suggested? John |
lol
another one down ;) |
Would it be possible to maybe implement a vB code addition that would allow users to create their own polls in a thread by using [poll] [/poll] tags? Just something I'd like to see...
|
Nice idea about poll tags! I'll have a think about that one!

Another is 'Rank This Thread'. I'm sure many of you have seen it on OT. But think about it: with the Views column and the Thread Rank column (1-5 stars say), users have a lot of info. H |
ok how about this one "vote for user knowledge. IE if some one helps you out you can "vote for them" and we could put stars under their name. IE you get all 5's you would have 5 stars etc..
|
IMHO, that rank thing is pretty useless. If you choose to make it, make an option to turn it OFF please.

Hi,
I read about that altering tables thing like Links SQL has. I have Links SQL, and incorporating a system as advanced as that into a forum would be hard. Forum software, as you all probably know is updated often. When you alter tables it is hard to keep your forum working after upgrades, as the upgrade.php file would probably give you an error. Cause I plan to do a lot of hacks on my forum, I am going to wait till the release with alot of the new features are in there and then alter the tables and do all the updates manuelly. Coming from a Links SQL background thats the sorta thing you have to do =). |
Could something like what Links SQL has be set up for just the user data? I think for the most part what people want to edit is information stored about the user... I think that if we could add fields and then they would become automatically available in the templates as $fieldname and then we could add the field to the profile and register form if we want them there...
If something like this was set up you could create so many hacks... private messages could be stored as one of the fields... ranks... etc. Steven :) |
i'd love to see username glows (although only work in IE)and username ranking stars
:) |
The glow could be done in the templates really easily... as for the stars I think someone got that working...
|
|
marvellous!!
:) :) :) :) :) |
Well, something i'd like to see is multiple schemes. The user would be able to either select a pre-made scheme, or use his/her own. Doesn't seem too hard to accomplish, either. You normally have something similar to this (i suppose, although i don't have vB):
echo "<body bgcolor=$bgcolor link=$link text=$text>"; # etc, etc, yeah, yeah, there's more than this, but still... All you'd have to chance would be where you got the variables. Normally, this would be wherever you keep the settings for the styles. Instead, you'd take it from a user style file (or MySQL table, depending on how it's set up). If the style file is empty, you'd then use the default. You could also use a cookie, but i like a file better because it'd stay constant no matter where you viewed the board. Well, there's my two cents. ~Cheeze |
Vb works with templates so that would be a little harder, but I believe john said stuff about custom schemes..summer release probably.
