and yes we were close... good friends, pals, and dealing with the same grunges about parenting and health... i met him twice, and i can tell he was as kickass in life as on the web... ;) |
One thing I remember, he liked to collect keyrings for his boys. I sent him some NZ ones years ago.
|
I'll always remember when Bob invited me to join his site at the time - The Bear Facts 2 (some of the older members here will know the site well); it had its own private area for coders to share ideas and code snippets and a game called Legend of the Green Dragon which Bob was very fond of.
A lot of the modifications he released lately were actually modifications he developed back in those days and maintained and updated as and when vBulletin evolved and credit to his coding skills those mods have stood the test of time. |

Oh my... Rob... come in and surprise us man... I'm really taken back and just need you to update your signature with something witty just one more time like you always did :ool:.
Your wit, humor, and thousands of helpful posts will echo in the halls of vBulletin.org for years to come though and I would like to thank you one last time from all of us for all the time & effort you put in here good sir! Bravo and we will all miss you, that's a understatement in itself! Sincerely, Mike |
Nicely said TheLastSuperman.
I didn't know or spook Rob personally but i know he was a great guy, always helping other people. Rob will always be with us in our heart and mind. He will always be looking out for us from heaven. There should be a hall of fame on vbulletin.org to remember him. RIP Rob |
I never personally met this man, but judging on everyones comments he must of been very very friendly and helpful !
Don't worry, I'm sure he's in a much better place right now! R.I.P |
This is terrible news. Bob was one of the smartest coders around vb.org.
I will never forget all the fun I had in many forums by using his infamous [you] hack. Rest In Peace. |

Robert Earnest Hindal, Jr. was a very respectable, strong-willed, and independent gentleman. He was part realist, dreamer, and visionary who always stood tall and proud.
He will sadly be missed by his friends on The Internet (vBulletin, XenForo, Socially Uncensored) and I can only imagine the impact he made in the real world as well. My deepest respects to his friends and family for their heartfelt loss. http://www.hamiltonsfuneralhome.com/...aspx?sid=12273 http://www.sociallyuncensored.eu/for...#axzz20or6fkqf |
Rest in peace Boofo

I didn't know him. But from all the kind words seen here, many did. He will be missed.
All is wellÂ… , Author unknown ( Found on line ) Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped away into the next room, I am I and you are you, Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by my old familiar name, Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone, Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow, laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effort, without the trace of shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well? So Long Rob. Rest in Peace. |
When I posted my first paid work request here on vb years ago and I was nervous as hell about being ripped off, Rob answered my post and said what I needed to here, settled on price, he said give him a few days and he would have it done. A few hours later he had it done and was giving me crap that I wasn't answering his pm's. And to top it off he said no charge as it only took him a few minutes to do it.
Thanks for helping a newbie back then Boofo, Rest in Peace. |
Sounds just like Rob that...lol.
|
Yip that sure sounds like Rob to a tee

Wow. Very Sad. When I first joined here, Boofo was one of the first to help me out. He did not "spoonfeed" me with an easy answer - guiding me to the answer in a way that taught me to keep learning about VB.
I will miss him. |
That's a very sad news. :( I'm not posting here much but I've read thousands of posts here since vbulletin is the core of my main project. I read also many posts of Boofo and he always seemed to me very nice and helpful guy with great life attitude. Very peaceful man and his avatar suited his posts well. He will be missed.
|
wow ... very sad indeed ... he's been around for many years ... contributed in many ways to vbulletinorg ... he was even a moderator at one point ... I just hope he didn't suffer for long ... Rest in peace, Rob!
|
Wow, I used to talk to him back in the day.. So sad to hear this news, he was very helpful to me.
I remember bearfacts and some of the ideas he gave me for an old site I ran (Alien Soup). He gave me additional access to some code without so much as a word. His humor was memorable, and I'll always miss him. |
Wow, I am very saddened to hear this. I have know Rob for some time here on the org, only talked in post or a pm or two when I needed to pick his brain. He would without hesitation help me with whatever I needed help with.
During part of May and the first day of June, this year, we talked just about everyday on Trillian. (He insisted I get it & use it, he said I would like it & he was right.) We talked about everything, his kids, his movie collection and vbulletin. I told him he was going to go broke buying movies. I really enjoyed chatting with Rob on trillian & will miss it dearly... even if I had to get my decoder pen out to understand his text at times. R.I.P Rob, you will be missed. |
I believe Rob is going to be buried at Iowa Veterans Cementer in Van Meter at a later date.

lol yes Rob was disgusted if he heard you were not running Trillian, also made me install it

Rob, I'm typing through tears here, we never met but after all the messages and crazy jokes we swapped I was blessed with getting to know a truly amazing guy.
You always put others first and cared so much about people and all that happened to them yet you kept so many of your own problems private. It seems like only a couple of months ago you were joshing me about not answering messages quickly enough and complaining I had not visited your forum for a while. When I told you why I hadn't been around and the issues I had going on , in true Boofo style you put out big supporting arms and took it all on board and kept the replies and supportive messages flowing, never once did you say you were ill yourself or not feeling too good. .... Looking back at those messages I see that darn near a year has gone by and I never did get back to your forum. Rest easy Rob,you were a true friend and gentleman , you'll not be forgotten. |
Saw the note on his Facebook page when it was posted and wasn't sure what to make of it at the time as it appeared kinda random with me not knowing of anythign which would see it to be coming.
While I didn't have the interaction with him that others did, I still found him to be approachable and helpful and not someone who would ever seem to to be put out at being asked to share his knowledge. RIP Rob. |
That is so sad! And unfair! I never had the pleasure of being in much personal contact with him. But I enjoyed his countless constructive posts over the years a lot! A whole lot!
My sincerest condolences to his family! May you rest in peace! You put your stamp on this community but you will be missed forever! |
Always sad to lose a fellow vb nut. RIP :(
|
RIP Rob, thanks for all your help offered to me over the past two years.
|
I am absolutely stunned by this news. He helped me out so much on this forum. He taught me a lot (of the little) coding that I know.
Praying for his family. He will be missed around here for sure. |
Life is a series of disappointments, and this is one of them.
RIP, Rob. You earned it many times over. |
RIP Rob a Great Fella always a real help.Thoughts with Family x

He put many smilies to the face of many people, it's amazing how many lives he has touched without even meeting the people.
Rob will always be missed. Quote:

WOW!! Vale Rob!

Terrible news. We were just PM'ing a month or so ago with ideas on how to accomplish something one of his clients wanted.
Sad to hear about this. I wish him nothing but the best in an afterlife that may or may not exist and his family and friends. |
