Have been testing it for a little over a week and I just wanted to provide an update.
The postings for me seem to be later and later each passing day. I love the mod but have uninstalled it on my site because I feel the kindle book topics really don't work for my forum but mod is marked installed as I may re-visit it again and may continue testing. :) |
Updated to version 2.1.2 due to changes in Amazon USA daily deal formatting. Amazon also removed the titles of the deal books from the page.
The title will now show something like "Romance Daily Deal" or "Teens Daily Deal", etc... If updating (USA ONLY) please change the post template setting to: Code:
[B][SIZE=3]Kindle Daily Deal for {DATE}[/SIZE][/B] |
|
Updated to version 2.1.3 which fixes the price issue for Amazon USA. No update needed for Amazon UK or Germany.
Amazon changed the wording from "Today's Price" to "Deal Price" had to update the code. Quote:
For Amazon USA it's: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...cId=1000677541 I could only find for UK and Germany while searching, I'm not sure every country has daily deals. |

I updated but it doesn't seem to be showing the prices any longer for me? (see pic) Thanks ... Regards, Doug |
Same here, not getting any prices showing either.
Also get this error if I enable VBCredits. Fatal error: Call to a member function escape_string() on a non-object in /home/tenpinfo/public_html/take5/dbtech/credits/credits_core.php on line 568 |
Yeah prices changed, will need an update.
The vbcredits error isn't related to this mod, this mod has no plugins so it can't interfere with anything. |

If you still get the problem, which amazon site are you using? COM, UK, or DE? |
I am using com(USA) , Does not fixed info.

I'm using the vBulletin data manager to create the thread which as far as I know is the correct way of doing it. I don't like passing the buck but it really looks like the issue is with VB Credits mod. |
Uninstalled....
Results unpredictable ... Thanks for the effort ... :) Regards, Doug |
Indeed the nature of the beast it will be unpredictable... today it picked up a second image of the romance daily deal for some reason.
No way to know how Amazon is going to format their pages before they do- it's just better than nothing, but far from perfect. |
I get this error when I run the cron job. No new thread is created.

It's a conflict with dbtech's credits mod. You'll have to talk to them or disable this mod- but this mod is coded correctly.

A suggestion -> Would it be possible to create a mod where we provide the ASIN number (with some tag) and it would go and fetch (from Amazon) the price, star rating, pic and a small description in a post? |
Thanks for update. Please "Mark as Installed" if you are going to keep using this.
Your mod idea is intriguing. Usually 'content scrapping' in unethical, but like this mod it ultimately will only help Amazon sales I don't see that being a problem. I will put some thought into this and announce here if I make something. |

It's a problem from dbtech's credits mod, not this one.

Hi, fantastic idea for a mod, but I'm having a problem with actually populating the post.
The post is being generated, and I've changed the template to the suggested UK style (I'm using amazon.co.uk I've also tried pulling from the US site and get no info from there either. I'm getting the following on the actual post; Kindle Daily Deal for 29-04-2013 Kindle Daily Deal https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ about: Deal Price: ?. (Today Only) (% Off) Deal # 2 Other Daily Deal https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ about: Deal Price: ?. (Today Only) (% Off) View All Deals Now or Browse Amazon.uk. |
Any pointers as to what it is I'm missing?

I am having a similar problem as ATN (above)..
Please see screen shots and tell me what I have done wrong.. Thanks for the mod and your help... |
Still looking for any pointers that anyone can give me on this add-on.
Thanks |
I can't tell much from the screenshots and explanations - jpbryan I can see you have BBCode in your subject//title, that won't work but it shouldn't be breaking anything else.
I confirmed it is still working on my 2 forums without issue so not sure why it wouldn't be picking up. If you want to PM me admin access to your forums I will take a look but I can't promise how quickly that will happen. |

I'll sort out the access tonight and PM it over to you later. |
is it possible to somehow modify it so that i can put it in one of the ad location instead of posting it.
|
I wouldn't call it modified at that point, it would basically be at least 50% new code.
You could use the code that scrapes the info from the pages but after that I would imagine instead of using the vBulletin functions to create a new post you'd need to write a custom .html file and then use that as an <iframe> ad in an ad location template. It's not a bad idea... Never thought of using them in an ad. I'm not sure when I would get a chance to work on it though, will definitely post back if/when I add the option. What size ad were you considering? |
Does it work for aus BOP?
|
I could only find daily deals for US, GB, and DE. If you know the link for an Australian daily deal please post it here and I'll try to add it.

Hi
This mod stopped working sometime in 2012 and I tried to make it work at that time with no succes. I would like to have this working on my new design, so I tried to uninstall/install the mod and run the cron job manually. The message from the cron job is that it ran succesfully, but no posts are showing in the assigned forum. Any help would be appreciated. http://www.bookeater.dk/vbforum/kindle-daily-deal/ |
Which amazon site are you pulling from? It's actually still working for me, puling from amazon.com. There is a little HTML code displayed but generally it works.
|
I'm using Amazon.com as well.
|
I just installed this on a VB4 test site, virtually stock, and it works- at least when I run the cron job manually from the mod settings- if you run it manually from the settings page does it work for you?
I'm using this as the code for the post template: Code:
[B][SIZE=3]Kindle Daily Deal for {DATE}[/SIZE][/B] Also - What PHP version is on your server? |
Using PHP Version 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.13
Code for template: Code:
*Kindle Daily Deal for {DATE}* |
Tried your template and gets the same message:
Code:
Kindle Daily Deal Grabber by BOP5 |
