Any idea why some of the recipients of my Newsletter get pages of HTML.
I too recieve this, I use Outlook2010 but the same thing happens with Thunderbird.

Brian.

metalguy639 06-16-2012 07:35 AM

Getting all fixed now thanks. :)

dany_danay 07-24-2012 09:01 PM

When i send some emails it say: "Note: This is just a test, no actual emails are being sent
"

tommydamic68 08-12-2012 08:51 AM

I too have purchased the paid version of this community newsletter and it does not work. It sends out about 492 and should have sent over 3000 news letters - it just stops. Provb.org Support suggests to contact my host, I did, Hostgator, and they said it's not on their end. I have paid for this mod twice in fact and I still can't use it. Very unhappy customer with Provb.org support and product The Community News letter. The big downfall is you can't even test the product or you would be sending your members annoying daily newsletters.

Dr Aj642 08-25-2012 06:32 AM

This mod is a great idea. I downloaded it and sent out the newsletter to all members but no one has received it despite the mod saying ''sent successfully''

Please upgrade this.

fionix 08-25-2012 06:59 AM

Why does the MODS of vbulletin not just take the MOD off until he fix his mess. It seems the developer don't intent or even care to help even if we pay for the pro version!

tommydamic68 08-25-2012 04:43 PM

Funny - Giovanni from http://www.provb.org contacted me via email claiming he would like to try and put this issue to rest of his paid mod not working correctly and after a few emails he has abandoned me once more. Poor
mod, really poor support from http://www.provb.org

Nelson58 09-07-2012 08:42 PM

Is there a newsletter mod that really works for 4.2? Seems they all have issues.

Nelson

craigvm 09-11-2012 01:24 PM

same here it says they`ve been sent but no1 has had a e-mail

Big Kahuna 01-24-2013 03:27 PM

Their web site is the most frustrating way to buy the Pro Version (as the Lite is useless) -- then the downloaded zip won't extract

I wish someone made a decent newsletter for VB4 without having to alter older versions

DirtRider 01-24-2013 04:16 PM

Well just maybe someone is working on it and we just don't know

Nelson58 01-29-2013 04:54 AM

He contacted me in PM to buy his mod, but after what I read here, I would be afraid to. We can have a coder write one for us if we all chip in. Christeris' is a piece of junk IMO, it doesn't properly let users unsubscribe and has no instructions. I showed it to one coder on here and he said it wasn't worth trying to modify it.

Anyone wanting to use this that was having issues with it not sending the mail out , I made it work by removing the following line from c_news_letter.php

PHP Code:

$vbulletin->GPC['test'] = 1

Since Provb doesnt seem to exist anymore and the OP doesnt seem to be responsive you may want to remove the references to link to their site all over the modification including a call for a css file.

I have attached what i use in a zip file, it may not be a correct solution but it works for me so use at own risk. Note**The only things which have been edited in the attached plugin is the file edit mentioned above and the template called c_news_letter of which ive removed the references for provb.org.

To also note , the template which i edited ive also fixed the styling so the page displays correct if you have a custom style.

if this is against the rules Moderators then feel free to remove the package and the fix.

I see that you have changed your original domain from ProVB to ModernVB now. I have a client that purchased the Premium newsletter when you were ProVB. I have a couple of questions:

1. Is his license still valid even though you changed the domain?
2. Is this the same hack but the name changed?
3. If it is the same and he would still have a valid license is it possible to get the latest version of the Pro version?

HM666 12-22-2014 07:56 AM

Well I guess that answers all my questions now doesn't it?

cdoyle 12-31-2014 09:47 PM

disappointing :(

BGObsession 01-01-2015 02:21 PM

I believe I saw Ozzy say he had plans to build a newsletter mod, but I don't know if that's still his intention. It's amazing that not only has vbulletin not made this an included add-on, but that no one has developed a decent pay version, given that just about every vbulletin forum owner would likely want to use it.

ozzy47 01-01-2015 02:25 PM

I did have intentions to do so, but I have no idea when that will be. I saw HM666 has a request in the paid requests forum, so maybe he can get a developer to come up with something.

I have tried to get someone to come up with a versatile, paid, community newsletter for years, to no avail.

A newsletter really boosts the site's traffic.

ozzy47 01-01-2015 06:44 PM

Well there are a few out there, but none of them select posts/threads to send. Everything is manual, which IMO I prefer, as I like to have control of what goes out.

BGObsession 01-01-2015 06:56 PM

Which ones are 'out there'? Other than the ProvB/ModervB version which doesn't work and for which support is maddeningly nonexistent, I haven't found any options (and I have looked far and wide)...

ozzy47 01-01-2015 07:03 PM

I use, [DBTech] vBMail v2 (vB4) when I want to send out newsletters from my site.

BGObsession 01-01-2015 08:35 PM

That's a nice email mod, but not quite what most are looking for. If you could use variables to automatically pull the last 10 threads, most recent posts, blog entries, or articles, new member list, member birthdays, that kind of thing - it would be a beautiful thing.

ozzy47 01-01-2015 08:44 PM

You could ask them on their site to add it to the mod, and they might just do it at some point.

But TBH, I can see all kinds of issues arising by doing something like that. There would have to be all sorts of checks and balances in place, to ensure the info grabbed was the most desirable posts/threads etc.

Think about this, lets say a spammer manages to make it through your registration process, and posts 5 spam posts/threads. Now you or your staff don't see this yet, cause you are asleep. Now sometime during the night, your newsletter is generated and sent out. It has the potential of having links to the spam posts/threads in it.

Our site is still using ProvB, which i bought some time ago. It does allow you to select a number of threads from each forum. The member can unsubscribe in his profile options which is good. However, the interface isn't very sophisticated. You have to create your own header and message in HTML. Occasionally, it crashes the database. You can't schedule when it goes out, you have to sit there and run it page by page. ?

A good program should pull the header from the site, so that the newsletter has the look and feel of the forum. it should have an editing section where you can edit the message as you desire before it gets sent out. it should work on cron to allow you to schedule the newsletter in advance.

The Greek gu.y had a mod. it worked once, then died. He was very excitable and gave it to Ozzy.

We really need a good one. We get huge traffic when we send one out. I wouldn't hesitate to pay for something good.

Nah - that's easily overcome simply by giving you the option of manually sending out the newsletter. That's how the original ProvB version worked, so if you did have threads that weren't legitimate, you could clean those up prior to sending out a newsletter.

I'm no coder - everything I know is self-taught - but it just seems like that Dragonbytes email mod would be a super solid basis for setting up a newsletter template as the previous poster described - that included site banner image, and options to add things like recent threads, articles, blog entries, and articles. The ProvB format was pretty decent - the problem is that later versions either didn't work or were buggy as hell.

I would also pay for someone to create this. For all those coders looking for work - I have seen numerous folks request this and offer to fund it. Seems weird no one is interested in making some money :)

Yes

We've had updates since right before the change and also have a pending update.

Sure is, we don't expire our licenses at the moment.

Gio~Logist 01-28-2015 09:40 AM

I haven't had time to support the free version much as I've been busy with paid clients for both contracted work and premium product purchases. However, I've subscribed myself to this thread again in case anyone is having any issues.

TerryMason 03-07-2016 12:28 AM

I've been running the paid version of this mod for some time (1.6.0), and I have a problem when sending. My entire site becomes unresponsive during the send. I've used the mod on a couple dedicated servers, and while my load / memory, etc stay normal, the site itself will not load during the actual send process.

Does this mod lock the database while sending? Any workaround for this?

Thanks

Just sent you a pm.

ronnyship 05-16-2016 12:33 PM

This is not working, and despite request on their own Forum and e-mail, the newsletter paid MOD does not work due to old setupfiles. Even after several users pointing this out on their on board, they still supply new customers with old, non-function setup-file.

Close to fraud.

Thumbs down!

Does it send a week/daily report of most important threads/posts?
