VBSEO have introduced a Like system with 3.6. At first I thought you have implemented that here.

Mark.B 06-20-2011 04:22 PM

Yes vBSEO have a like system, but really it's only like a Like system. This Like system is much more like a like system than vBSEO's Like system. I like this Like system more than other Like systems. If you like Likes then you should like this Like system better than other Like systems, if you like.

Peter Piper Picked... ohh nevermind you got me!

Kaleem 06-20-2011 05:54 PM

What if I dislike a post?

You have to leave the forum in a huff.

At least, that's what always seems to happen on MY site.

Da-Vinci 06-20-2011 07:45 PM

Well it's about time lol, seen many a post on here requesting some sort of thanks system, only for Staff to say it will never happen.

I'm liking the new Admins who are pushing the site in the right direction.

Well done to all involved. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

Now if we could just get a decent set of smilies to use on here, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

no need to take any action - just ignore it ;)

Alan_SP 06-20-2011 09:39 PM

It seems to me that I'm able to like my own posts. In this type of mod usually it's disabled, or could be disabled.

Also, I think that it would be better to position heart next to qoute and other buttons. At first I was looking where the heart is.

I agree. My first time reading this thread, I was looking to see where the heart was, thinking it would be over by the quote button or the top right corner of the postbit

I like the Like system, I am using Dragonbytes pro version and have set up several buttons. removing the neg rep and making the dislike (slay) public has worked exceptionally well for me. it is very popular

Just to correct you here, we said we would never install the thanks mod, and we havent. ;)

You cannot like your own posts, or at least you should't be able, and I can't.

There are still a few minor improvements to be made to it in July - fix the display in usercp and fix some of the links being two of them.

Qwk86gn 06-21-2011 03:39 AM

Nice mod guys, just a small styling suggestion. The background blends in a little to much IMO. Attached a screenshot of an idea. ;)

Code:

background: #E6ECF5; color: #313131; font-size: 10px;

Brandon Sheley 06-21-2011 03:53 AM

I like seeing stuff like this on the org, congrats to the team that put this together ;)

weindians 06-21-2011 10:07 AM

i have a small suggestion. it would be more nice the likers list appear above siggy rather than bottom of siggy making a feeling of it belongs to sombody's signature....

But you can still see the heart icon above your own post. So, maybe add a little code to remove the icon if it's your own post? :)

Also, I agree with the ideas to put it just above the sig and with the styling to set it apart from the background as well

vijayninel 06-21-2011 12:43 PM

Great feature. We really needed something like this. :)

So disliking "a" post should make me leave the forum?

But I want that person to know that I have disliked the post and please do not post such gibberish again.

I'm sure it was meant as a joke- Like him I often have users threaten to leave my forum forever because of any stupid little thing they don't like.

I got users like that too that is why giving them a dislike button might solve this problem.

Sarteck 06-21-2011 01:41 PM

For some reason, I cannot like some posts.

I've tried liking the first and second posts of this thread:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=231670

I get the message, Sorry, you cannot like this post.

I am able to like newer posts in that thread, though. Is there a reason for that, or is it some kind of bug?

I get the same message, it seems I can't like any mods or posts in mod threads made before the system came online.

Lynne 06-21-2011 03:14 PM

We will look into the issue of not being able to like those posts. I'm not sure what is up with that. I'll put on my coding hat in a bit and take a look. :)

edit: Right now we have it set so you can only Like open threads that are less than 180 days old.

Sarteck 06-21-2011 04:38 PM

Sorry for buggin' ya, but is it going to stay that way, or might you plan on changing it?

I understand there's a reason for the time limit n' all, but there's a lot of posts older than half a year which deserve thanks (IMO, anyways). Case in point would be the modifications that have been out for longer than 6 months.

Lynne 06-21-2011 04:59 PM

You're not bugging me by asking. :)

It is up for consideration. I can't guarantee that it will change, but I have brought it up with Staff.

vijayninel 06-21-2011 05:15 PM

What I would have liked is to get notifications when someone likes your post. Please see if its possible to do that. :)

I dunno about Notifications, but if you look in your profile, you can see the latest likes you received. (Sorry if you already knew about that feature; if not, now you do. :>)

furnival 06-21-2011 06:39 PM

Seems like reinventing the wheel to me. What was wrong with Abe's like mod, or one of the other similar ones that use Ajax?

mikey1991 06-21-2011 07:34 PM

Where can I "unlike" a post? I have liked the opener of this thread but would like to undo that action now?

Actually, the Thanks Hack was reinventing the wheel. We simply modified the rep system that was in place to do what we wanted.

Just like with the rep system, you cannot take away the Like.

Maybe add a setting for how many days old a thread can be to be liked?

I would assume it should be this way, imo marking as "Installed" should be considered the ultimate form of "like" in regards to a modification :p. This way it would then make sense i.e. you can like other posts in the thread however if you like the actual mod, mark it as installed :D.

^ I protest (LOL) let them Mark as Installed instead of liking a mod's first post... just a thought.

What sort of notification are you referring to ?

You cannot unlike, or dislike a post. There is no plan to add either.

I like this feature....So now the question is vb.org going to share some love and offer this mod to their members?

This has already been answered by Paul:

Everything here resides in one set of custom files and plugins, seperating out one feature, and making it releasable, would be quite a lot of work.

Well in my forum we get notifications like these when someone likes your post.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2011/06/21.png

Also if I may say so the "Alerts" system on Xenforo is excellent way of getting notifications. Its much more useful and sophisticated than the vB system. I wish we has something on those lines in vBulletin.

Lynne 06-22-2011 03:50 AM

We don't have that notification system in 3.6. I think it is a 3.8+ system.
