Thanks for quick reply. Any brilliant suggestions welcome on how I can get around this issue??

I think you mod is perfect for me and definately want to use it, just need to somehow give people free access for 7 days but need them to register for this, so they can get to see some areas of the website to see what they are paying for when they subscribe.

Hi, I have a idea couldn't you make it so this checks with antispamdatabases when a spammer is detected display $500.000000 a month to join that will piss them off :D

It was not the initial purpose, but by design, if you disable free registration it is virually impossible for bot/automatic spammers to sign up. If it was a human spammer, he/she would have to pay for the ability to spam your board before anything; to top it off, you have a Transaction ID which you can take to the payment processor (e.g. PayPal) who has the spammer's address, and you can take legal action or contact the authorities to have some form of recourse.

Mark4865 05-16-2011 08:13 PM

Lancerforhire,

Do you think standard VB promtions will help me get around the 7 day trial membership issue, if I have a promotion the promotes regiistered members to 7 day trial members on registration and with different permissions and then back to registered members with restricted permissions after 7 days.

Will your mod allow for registered members if they are not charged but I have a 7 day trial subscription with no cost value added to it?? This subscription can be one of their choices upon registration??

Is this idea possible?? Appreciate the help and feedback aswell as all the effort put into the mod

As soon as it out of Beta, will nominate for MOTM! I am sure lots of websites will benefit from this mod. Thanks again to you Lancerforhire for all your hard work on this.

Putting an idea out there, maybe for future add-on. It would be nice to be able to display what the user receives for a paid membership.

Can't you do that in the description of each subscription?

Sure, but the description of what the user receives for his subscription should be more detailed. The display in the dropdown-box is limited - or it breaks the layout.
I wouldn?t buy a description where I don?t know exactly, what I?ll receive in return. You wouldn?t buy it either, or ? ;)

And links to extra-sites where the subscription are explained, is a registration killer at this moment. Would be wise to display a more detailed overview beside/beneath the dropdown-boxes.

So, +1.

Just released version 0.5!

This may be the last beta; keep the tests going everyone! We are scheduled to leave beta on the 26th! :)

Mark4865 05-23-2011 10:51 AM

vbresults 05-23-2011 11:28 AM

Correct.

LinkBliss_com 05-23-2011 03:11 PM

I'm getting an error after completing the registration --

ERROR CODE 2764966795

It it trying to do this page after I filled in all the information:

http://www.reviewthemovies.com/regis...p?do=addmember

Also, I vote for

1. allow free memberships to certain countries, most of my spam comes from Russia or Germany, so I only want to require paid membership from those countries, not sure how hard this would be

2. a version for 3.6.8

Thanks!
Eric

The problem you experienced was a showstopper caused by a change in the product's last version. It has been fixed and 0.6 is out; thanks for reporting! :)

PS: 1. You need something like MaxMind GeoIP to get the country of a visitor, and that by itself does not guarantee them to be a bot. It can end up doing much more harm than good. Definitely something that is not going to be included in this product, but if you are still interested in extending the product this way send me a PM and we can discuss a paid project to add this functionality.

2. Noted.

Hi Lancerforhire, in testing of this mod, I have generated many ghost users, my site isnt live yet, so I know I generated them. Is there anyway of cleaning these up before I do go live?

This is a special case since you are cleaning your testing environment up to move into production. In the AdminCP, you can prune everyone in the Users Awaiting Email Confirmation usergroup (all of the ghost users are here) because none of the transactions will go through.

This is one of the extremely rare cases where you can tamper with ghost users. Under any other circumstances, do not touch them! :)

HellRZR 05-23-2011 10:03 PM

Thank-you, will clean-up once out of beta, waiting on this to go live.

I do have a question, why are these ghost user generated?

Prior to you releasing this, this is what I was going to use and it did not generate any ghost user...

User would register as normal.

I then point the user to an external page via the registration redirect mod. which basically told them to verify there email for the activation email.

When they clicked on the email to verify there account, I pointed them to another external page which was redirected by the same mod I mentioned above.

This page basically offered them the possibility to continue for a free account, or upgrade.
If they selected upgrade, I them pointed them to the payment.php since at this point they were already registered.

I didn't test this intensively, but it seemed to work without any ghost users created, even if I stopped the paypal process.

vbresults 05-23-2011 10:42 PM

Ghost users facilitate the use of the existing functions instead of requiring blocks of untested and error-prone code to be made. The end result is less errors/high stability, less code (only 32KB, with all that this does!), and improved performance. Ghost users practically remove the need for reinventing the wheel.

I could go into the technical details, but you did not ask for that so I'll stop here. :p

Bug Report :

Test Scenario.

User selects main registration, he then is presented a screen with 2 options, Paid Subscriptions and Free registration.

User selects free registration, when he reaches the registration screen, user changes his mind and wants a paid membership. So he reselects the register tab.

However now, the screen with the 2 options is no longer presented and the user goes directly to the main registration screen.

Resolution for Chrome : All browser cookies must be cleared.
Resolution for FireFox: All browser cookies must be cleared.
Resolution for IE: not found

Reproduced on IE, Chrome and FireFox

This was actually a test case before I released the beta. If you click on the free option then go to the forum's home page, then go back to the registration, it removes the cookie (a plugin does this) so you can make a choice again. Maybe I should add a note on the subscription selection screen to visitors know they can make another choice. Thanks for testing this!

HellRZR 05-24-2011 11:28 PM

Lancerforhire, I need your help please. Right now the paid subscription appears before the free one. I would like to reverse that, present the free first, followed by the paid one. How can I accomplish this?

HellRZR 05-25-2011 12:09 AM

May I make a cosmetic change request.

Right now the payment selection page looks basically like this:

Cost payment/ subscription selection box
description of the subscription
sign up now button

If you have a long description, the user must go back to the top of the page to select the payment/subscription he or she wishes to choose.

I think, it would be more user friendly in this order :
description of the subscription
Cost payment/ subscription selection box
sign up now button

What do you think?

Manoel J?nior 05-25-2011 01:10 AM

Please!!! Mod for 3.8.7?

In the LancerForHire - Paid Registration template group, open the lancerforhire_paid_registration_subscription template, and find:

Code:

{vb:raw subscriptionbits}
Cut the code you just found and paste it below/after the </vb:if> block that was below it.

In the Subscription (Paid) template group, open and edit the subscription_availablebit template.

Bug Report:

Test scenario :

User registers a free account, once termination is completed, the regular screen appears informing them that an activation email was sent.

When the user clicks on the activation email, following screen is presented :

testuser, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1.Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2.If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

When you verify the user in admincp, there status is user awaiting activation.

0.7 is out!

Prefect release 0.7 corrected reported problem. however it did not address the cookie problem previously reported, this will be corrected prior to going out of beta I hope. :)
