The activity %age system is getting a complete overhaul for the next Lite version.
Daily/Weekly/Monthly Activity bars will be in the next Pro Version.

Thanks for trying the mod =)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well.

I can say from personal experience that the authors of this mod are willing to do whatever they need to in order to improve their product. Comments like the one you're referring to, do zero in helping to create a better product.

Such people expect so much for nothing and then are rude when they don't get what they want. It's a serious problem in general and shows up a lot here on vb.org. It's better than such people DON'T use these mods. Otherwise they just stick around and keep acting like jerks, causing mod authors to pull their free/lite versions.

So... all in all, as long as those with such attitudes stay away, we're all better off.

Maybe vb.org needs a way for a mod author to ban someone from a particular mod. That way if they don't want to use it, the authors can make sure they don't hand around being jerks.

archet1337 02-28-2010 06:43 PM

I'm really pleased with this mod. Just what I was looking for. Thanks :)

DragonByte Tech 02-28-2010 06:49 PM

=) Thanks for the support guys.

Really glad the mod is what you were looking for Archet - It should be significantly better when the new version is released in a couple of days as well.

Have to give thanks to Trek for that as well - He's a pro customer and his feedback/suggestions have been invaluable, so if you enjoy the next version it's partially down to him haha!

as i did say, SORRY......

I did not mean any offence so get off my back dude.

all i said was the current % is too wierd to even try to work out and a status bar is needed, without it, it is a joke tbh, you must agree, this really should of been put in with this mod so all can see the status

Again as i stated, i will await a better version

So ?????

This means, I shall await an update of the % and the status bar - not that hard to read between the lines dude is it ?

=) Everyone has a different opinion of what is and isn't required by a mod.

We decided to try something a little different for activity - turns out it didn't work, so we're going to go in another direction.

Even though the company is young, the customers we have are great - they've been really helpful and let us know what features they would like and what changes they think should be made, so we're working with them to make those changes.

A graphical status bar probably won't be in the Lite version (We need to keep *some* features for Pro) But the current activity %age system will be undergoing a major overhaul to make it much easier to understand and use, and much more useful for measuring activity.

Thanks for your feedback, Hopefully future versions of vBA will be better suited to your needs.

I've just hotfixed a number of potentially serious bugs with this version.
These are:
* Custom avatars would fail to display properly if they were served from the Database
* Threaded mode would fail to load properly
* Accepting a friends request would silently fail

There's no new version number, so all you need to do to patch is download the new zip, and upload the files to your server :)

Fillip

archet1337 02-28-2010 11:05 PM

Thanks Fillip, I was wondering what caused the custom avatars to go M.I.A when served from the DB :)

DragonByte Tech 02-28-2010 11:16 PM

Seems like Friends wasn't 100% fixed, but it is now :)
If you downloaded between my previous post and now, the fix is in dbtech/vbactivity/includes/hooks/profile_updatelist_complete.php - ccheck_feature_by_typenames -> check_feature_by_typenames

When I enable this, my users avatars don't work.

Any ideas what's causing that?

Snug 02-28-2010 11:38 PM

how about adding some sort of separator between the post count and activity points?

Re-download the zip, and re-upload the contents of the forum folder, and it will be fixed :)

when i activate the product "DragonByte Tech: vBActivity" , avatars are not showing up & when i disable the product avatars are not showing in postbit.

Kreyg 03-01-2010 02:36 AM

I installed the product and all is going well with it except I can't get achievements to work. I rebuild and all that jazz, yet no achievements show up. I've done several simple ones and nothing.

Any suggestions? My forum is http://www.hotbloodedgaming.com/forum/forum.php

EDIT:

I got the achievements to work. I'm still having one problem though.

The: http://www.hotbloodedgaming.com/foru...tab=vbactivity Link doesn't go to the tab when it's clicked.

REQUEST:

This is a request I have. I didn't see a way to make achievements for the "Activity Rating" I think it would be great to make an achievement called "It's over 9000!!" for users that break that 9000%

That's to do with the kind of SEO url you use, there's two question marks there as you can see.
I'll see if I can work around that for the next version.

Well in the next version, the activity rating will make sense ;p
I'll see if it's possible to get Activity Rating added to the types as well, no guarantees though ^.^

I'm tagging this one to see how it goes.

So far I'm using vBExperience and everybody knows coder won't upgrade it.

This mod seems to be on the right path.

Supramania 03-01-2010 04:25 PM

Honestly my only gripe is one you appear to be addressing. It's the % of activity calculation. Every other mod I've seen takes the activity of the most active member and gauges everyone against him. (i.e. - you are 75% as active as the most active member.)

Right now, my leader board shows my #1 user of having an activity of 141599.96% and me personally at 51508.02% - that's not exactly useful info.

horussjr 03-01-2010 04:28 PM

man. i want to ask for some help. i want to move all the stuff from vba from below age, number of posts under the yahoo skype msn bar. please if you can do that in the plugin or just simply show me step by step how to do that. i want to be like the vbe from 3.8 vb. thank you

tahrim 03-01-2010 05:00 PM

let me cheek....

kpierce 03-01-2010 06:08 PM

Does this support points awarded for blog posts? If not, is there an add on that does?

DragonByte Tech 03-01-2010 06:17 PM

It does indeed =)

Iain

Sorry, I'm not seeing where to assign points for blog posts. Is it just in the condition "points for posts"?

DragonByte Tech 03-01-2010 06:39 PM

He was mistaken, Blogs aren't supported yet. It will be the first official addon to this product though. No word on when exactly it's being released, but it is coming :)

We're going to fix the problems with the mod (like the Activity % being wrong) and any other bugs / suggestion you guys have, and then we will move on to writing addons.

That would be the /dbtech/vbactivity/includes/hooks/postbit_display_complete.php file.

I'll see about making this display settings-based in the next version :)

For a quick fix:
Code:

open /dbtech/vbactivity/includes/hooks/showthread_query.php

Place directly beneath <?php:

if ($threadedmode)
{
        $postids = "postid IN (" . $cache_postids . ")";
}

Permanent fix along with new features coming tomorrow.

Fillip

Thanks for reply i fixed it

How do you give and take points manually?

That's currently not possible, but will appear in a future version :)

If you register on our website, you'll be better equipped to keep up with feature updates that we're not allowed to discuss here on vBulletin.org :)

Supramania 03-02-2010 08:04 PM

I had to disable this. Just too many queries against MySQL.

With the mod enabled my server load averages (Dedicated Server, CentOS5, quad processor) were up in the 4's and 5's - the load peaked today at: 10.59 8.98 8.50

With this mod disabled, I'm now seeing consistent numbers like this: 0.38 0.33 0.53 with the same number of users as before -- this is more like "normal" for my hardware.

I turned on the slow query log in MySQL and it was filled with queries from this app. It's good, but the performance hit was killing my site. Users complaining about page load time, etc.

I'll look at the config and I'll see what I can change to be able to turn this back on.

DragonByte Tech 03-02-2010 08:14 PM

Could you please show me the result of your slow query log? I'll try to have it fixed for the next version :)

Fillip

DragonByte Tech 03-02-2010 08:15 PM

Hmm... how many members does your forum have?

A 30x increase in load doesn't sound normal at all...

I'll re-enable it later and post up some results - I already flushed the log file, sorry. :(

Not used to this kind of quick response. I do appreciate it and will come back with data for you.

About 1.5 million posts.

No, I was struggling with server performance all last night and this morning, tweaking MySQL cache settings, etc. I didn't think a vBulletin mod could have that dramatic of an effect. I've got plenty of hardware behind the site for its relative size.

I finally enabled the slow query log to see what was putting such load on my processors and it was this mod, which really surprised me.

Supramania 03-02-2010 10:41 PM

Ok, I just tested again. This is in a very slow time of the day with only 100 +/- connections to the site.

Prior to enabling mod:

0.47 0.43 0.38 | 112 Users Online (74 members and 38 guests)

Immediately after enabling mod:

1.18 0.63 0.45 | 118 Users Online (78 members and 40 guests)

a few minutes after enabling mod:

2.12 1.36 0.80 | 113 Users Online (72 members and 41 guests)

This trend will continue until server load goes out of control and connections start getting throttled.

After mod is disabled for a few minutes:

0.57 0.81 0.76 | 111 Users Online (70 members and 41 guests)

My slow query threshold is set to 10 seconds. The mod is pumping queries that take 10 seconds or more into the queue every 2 seconds, this causes MySQL to backlog severely until the entire site runs like molasses. Eventually the system starts rejecting connections due to high processor load because MySQL is running away with all 4 processors.

Attached find the slow query log after just a couple of minutes of running with the mod enabled.

It pumps an entry like the following into the log about every 2 seconds:

Code:

# Time: 100302 18:29:40
# User@Host: databasename[databasename] @ localhost []
# Query_time: 13.313781  Lock_time: 0.000048 Rows_sent: 4  Rows_examined: 368738
SET timestamp=1267576180;
SELECT SUM(points) AS newpoints, userid
        FROM dbtech_vbactivity_pointslog
        WHERE userid IN(
                SELECT userid
                FROM post AS post
                WHERE post.postid IN (0967161,967167,967177,967178,967194,967203,967204,967232,967238,967243)
        )
                AND points > 0
        GROUP BY userid;

DragonByte Tech 03-02-2010 11:09 PM

I've just re-uploaded the zip file without the offending query.
What this means for the product is, for the next 24 hours your Activity rating might spike a bit higher (:p) but your forums shouldn't bog down like that again.

If it does, please let us know and we will fix it as soon as possible. Your feedback is quite invaluable in this, none of us have access to such a huge forums as yours, so it's great that you're willing to help out :D

Just re-upload all the files, no need to do anything with the XML :)

Fillip

Supramania 03-02-2010 11:54 PM

I have uploaded the zip and it has been enabled for about 30 minutes.

Load averages are 0.80 0.76 0.60

Looks like you got it. Thanks!

Also, is it possible to add userid= as a criteria - with that one feature, your mod can completely replace the other "awards" system I have running.

DragonByte Tech 03-03-2010 12:14 AM

There's a feature for making awards and giving them to users in the Pro version (we call them Medals) :)
That system's due for an overhaul in v1.1 as well, when it'll be able to give the same award to the same user multiple times.

Glad to hear the problem has been solved, in the next version we'll take care of the Activity formula problem, which should bring this mod out of Beta.

Btw, could you leave the Slow Query Log on overnight, so that it can log the "Daily Points" Cron job?
I worry that that's a performance hit, and you're the only big-board user I know of ;)

Thanks in advance :)

Fillip

Supramania 03-03-2010 12:36 AM

I've left it on for exactly that reason - I'll post it up tomorrow.

DragonByte Tech 03-03-2010 12:40 AM

Thanks :D

The cron job runs at midnight GMT though, so it may need to be left on for another 24 hours to be fully sure.
But at least leaving it on will catch any other potential resource predators xP

Fillip

horussjr 03-03-2010 02:01 PM

another update with the same name as 1.0.2? please change the name when you update this plugin. thx
