Ok. Thank you very much for coded this mod.
Its really thing what i need. |
Ted S
Okay I thought I had IP's older than a few days old yesterday, but apparently not. I checked them tonight and the IP's I wanted deleted were gone except for the newer ones from today and that's great, the mod is working fine. I also downloaded the new php file and uploaded to my server and the log entries are working now too. Great job and thank you. Nominated for MOTM. :D |

Can you please explain the difference between take-over and block? Is Take-Over the warning message while Block is the force user to register? There's no mention of which is which in the add-on description or the install file.
Edit: Nevermind - reading the phrases made it more clear. Would be nice to have a better description explicitly defining both somewhere. Edit Edit: I have this installed and it's not doing anything. I just viewed 30 threads even though I have Register Take-Over set to 10 and it's not doing anything. Link in signature if you'd like to try to recreate. And I do have the {vb:raw lgvmessage} in my navbar template. |

Working a charm for me on 4.0.1, thanks! Nice to see good punctuation in the messages too.

W00000000000t!
I was desperately waiting for the vb4 version of this great addon. To me this is one of the top 5 addons of all time. Great job, I really appreciate your work. |

For those that say working like a charm - did they actually test it? I can not get the mod to do anything while viewing as a guest and I've followed the instructions...
Edit: Should the hook location for lgv_plugin be itself? I think that's why I'm having the problem - it's not recognizing the hook location. I tried putting debug=1 to see what it'd do but then I realized I can't save the plugin because the hook location seems to be invalid. Attachment 111061 Attachment 111062 |
Yes it's been tested, I don't release a mod without testing one.
Please view your site as a guest and insure that the cookie lgv is getting set and increased. |
Good works.
Thanks |

Again - is it normal that the hook location for lgv_plugin is lgv_plugin? How can one edit the plugin if the hook location doesn't exist? I can't save it or make any modifications because the hook location comes up blank when I click "Edit" |

So I'm perfectly clear are you seeing either the message or the block warning? Or do neither show when enabled. |
Neither show. It looks like it's increasing the cookie perfectly but the plugin isn't triggering the template to display. If it is normal then how can I edit the plugin when I can't save it?
|
That I can't tell you, perhaps there's a conflict in something else? I'm looking at it more but this mod with the code posted is working on my test sever right now.
What happens when you try and save? |

Also to add to my last post, for the cookie to be set the lgv_plugin hook has to be called. That's where the cookie code is.
Try the version attached which enables debugging and let me know how it works. |

In any event please upload the new XML file in the latest version of this addon. |
I installed the XML file and doing testing now. I didn't realize at first that you have to click in the forums for the echos to show up.
http://www.mifbody.com/vbulletin/ if you want to test as well. |
Version 2.0.7 has been released which adds support for editing the hook location this modifcation uses. To update upload the files in upload/incldues/xml and the new XML plugin file. Most users do not need to upgrade.

"db system not enabled
we have a qualified visit -- 17 hits nothing is excluded COOKIE: check for counts nothing until 10" |
Ok so the debug code is telling us that neither the message nor the block page were executed which is why nothing is showing up.
Can you try removing the number for the take over so that all you have is the message count at 10? |
I actually had to disable the modification entirely - I don't know if it's because debug is turned on now or what but my website was basically completely useless for IE6. I'd click a link to browse to a thread and IE would literally become unresponsive. I could only browse to one or two threads and then IE6 would entirely lock up to the point that I would have to "End Task" it. I disabled every mod and the site worked fine and I just went through enabling every mod one by one and the site worked fine until I enabled this one again. Sorry, I gotta give up on this... now I know why my IE6 users were complaining about hating the new vbulletin 4 system.
|
Yikes! I'm sorry you left debug on, that was something I definitely didn't intend. The point of the debug system is to see what's happening quickly, and then turn off the mod so I can adjust it. Definitely not something you want users to have to put up with.
Debugging should never actually show on the real site. Normally I state that up front so really my appologies for any confusion. If you chose to try it again let me know, I think I know what the cause of your issue was. |
I'm open to trying things - I like the idea that this add-on offers.

It is a good one

I'm not totally convinced this works as designed but I'm going to run it. It doesn't appear to show the first warning for me no matter what I set the settings to. The final registration warning appears after the user views too many threads/posts though.

First thing to check, do you have the template variable added? |
Hi Ted, this looks like a great Mod :)
One question though, could it be tweaked so that it could be used for other member groups and not just for guests? I have one forums which is restricted to Full members or those willing to pay a subscription and this would be a great way to give members who have already registered a sneak preview before they decide whether or not to pay the $ to subscribe :) Thanks in advance Regards Mark |
hey ted great mod and thanks for sharing.
1 issue, links embedded inside code tags doesn't get parsed. |
Quote:
You could set it up to work this way but clearing cookies or jumping IPs would let people escape the filter and thus defeat the block. Ted Ted |
Where do you go to edit the messages at? I have checked in my admincp and do not see any options.
