It's been tested and works fine on all the various forums we run.

Are there any errors or something that may point to what the issue may be?

You are using the 1.0.3 version? We did find a conflict with another mod that we resolved.

I?m running the latest version.
Can you tell me a simple method to test this addon?
Create a thread with a normal account and then move it and then check if the normal user has got an pm?

Here the promised German translation:

Falls Fehler oder ?hnliches enthalten sein sollten, kurze PN an mich. Dann ?ndere ich die ?bersetzung.

I test by creating a user and then creating a thread by that user. Then log in as admin and move the thread. If you have Save PM on send you will have one in the saved PM box as the admin. The user should have one in their unread box.

Thats for moving a thread from a publicly visible location to another publicly visible location. If moving to a forum that is not a publicly visible location the admin should receive a PM informing them to contact the member as to why it was moved along with a reminder not leave a redirect.

I tested on 3.6.8, 3.7.4, 3.8.3 and 3.8.4.

mferguson 11-02-2009 07:09 PM

The way I test is:

Have two browsers open. I use Firefox and Safari for my testing but you can use IE and Chrome, etc. You just need two browsers running.

1) With one browser login as an admin
2) I have a test account (TestUser) that is a member of the registered users group. With the other browser login as TestUser
2) TestUser creates a thread in Forum A
3) With the other browser (administrator) view this thread and under the Thread Tools menu select Move Thread
4) Select a publicly visible forum (Forum B) to move the thread
5) Go back to TestUser's browser and check private messages. There should be a new one indicating the move.

Now it works properly :)
Thank you!

An updated German translation will be published on Wednesday.
A few little fixes :)

mferguson 11-02-2009 09:12 PM

Kolbi,
What was causing the problem you were experiencing?

Thanks!

Mark

Kolbi 11-03-2009 03:33 PM

I think it was my mistake. :) Perhaps I had disabled the plugin. I don?t really know :)

mferguson 11-03-2009 03:44 PM

No problem. We've gotten a few reports with previous versions that it wouldn't work yet, in our testing, we could never reproduce the same behavior. It sounds like that everything is working correctly for you now though.

Let me know when you have the updated translation ready and I'll get it added to the first post announcement.

Thanks!

Mark

Kolbi 11-03-2009 04:04 PM

I think I have tomorrow the time to update it :)

mferguson 11-03-2009 04:22 PM

Sounds good. Thanks!

PS: By the way what about DTOGarage (fully phrased) :)....

mferguson 11-05-2009 02:41 AM

Thanks for the translation Kolbi. I've added this to the master post and gave you credit for it.

As for Garage we are currently wrapping up testing on Garage Plus and it will be available shortly. Contact me via PM and I'll provide you with an update on the new features, phrasing, etc.

Thanks!

Is it possible to disable the PM notification after a thread is moved outside of user accesible areas?

Thanks...

mferguson 11-05-2009 01:20 PM

With the current version only the moderator is sent a PM when the thread is moved outside of a user accessible areas. The thread author does not receive any PM in this case. Only if/when the thread was moved back to an accessible area is the author sent a PM.

In my case I just wanted to make sure that if we moved the thread outside of the accessible areas that I made sure that the moderator took the time to determine if a follow up was needed. Often if they didn't follow up the author would notice quickly that the thread was missing and the it vanished without explanation...angering them. If the moderator got the reminder PM and then messaged them with an explanation the thread author was usually very understanding.

All the above said I can modify this to ad other behaviors and configuration options. If you (and othes) can tell me how you want to use it on your site it will provide me some direction on how best to support those needs.

Thanks!

Mark

hugh_ 11-05-2009 06:33 PM

On our forum we move junk posts to a 'trash' forum and it's an important part of discouraging SPAM for the author to be notified, so this is functionality I would very much like to see and the moderator doesn't need to be notified in our case...

mferguson 11-05-2009 10:09 PM

So would this feature be boiled down to the following:

- include a setting in Thread Move to always show to/from information on thread moves.
- in the case that a thread is being moved to a non-visible forum just don't provide links to the forum or thread (like you do when to/from forums are visible to the author)

I like the notion of telling them through the PM that "Your thread has been moved to the Trash forum" as that probably is a very good deterrent.

Let me know if I have this captured correctly.

Thanks!

Mark

hugh_ 11-05-2009 10:21 PM

That seems about right. Thanks for your consideration...

SoloX 11-07-2009 02:07 AM

I have installed this on 3.8.2 but no PMs are sent out. are there any known conflicts with other mods that might restrict the PMs? Is there any way to debug this?
Awesome mod though. Would really like to get it working.

mferguson 11-07-2009 12:57 PM

We haven't identified any conflicts to date but I would like to work with you to figure out what is going on. To insure that the the PMs are being sent can you:

If you find that no PMs are being sent it could point to a problem where the phrase group is not getting properly loaded and I can dig in with you further to determine the cause. PM me with your findings on the above testing and we'll work to get this fully operational for you.

Thanks!

Mark

SoloX 11-09-2009 09:56 AM

Thank you for the kind offer, Mark. Turns out that my moderators are NOW receiving all the PMs as well as the users. Have no clue what changed in the last 48 hours. But oh well, all is well that ends well. We love this mod. Excellent work!

mferguson 11-09-2009 12:42 PM

Excellent. I'm glad that everything is working well. Let me know if you need any additional assistance.

Thanks!

Mark

yellowbird 11-13-2009 02:13 PM

Cool mod. I need 2 features before I can use it on my board though.

The first is the feature Hugh suggested: sending the User a PM when a thread is moved to an inaccessible Trash forum.

The second would be to have a radio button when moving to turn off the PM feature for that move. We often mass move expired threads to an accessible Expired Forum, so that could result in hundreds of PMs being sent to users and dozens being sent to a single user. The users already have the expectation that those threads would be moved, so a PM is unnecessary.

Thanks for the mod! Look forward to using it soon!

SVTCobraLTD 11-13-2009 03:00 PM

What about it stating a reason why it was moved? Does it do that?

On this second request do you see this as an option that you select when you have the form up that allows you to select where the thread will be moved or somewhere else?

Like the option above would you want to see this on the initial destination selection form or somewhere else?

If you can both give me some feedback on the workflow that would be most effective I'll investigate to determine how best to implement it.

Thanks for the feedback!

If you could make it that if the mod/admin moving the thread can either write a reason in a text box or leave it blank. If left blank, it would not state any reason to the author. If there is something filled out, it would send it to the author saying it was moved for this reason.

Another thing would be who moved it. Unless it does say that already.

I think that screen makes the most sense. I would put it below the Redirect options.

Thanks!

mferguson 11-13-2009 07:06 PM

Thanks for the additional feedback. I'll investigate what it will take to add other options into the redirect option selection screen.

Thanks again!

My mods were just asking for this feature as members were mad thinking there threads or posts were deleted..., I am glad I saw it. Will install... thank you.

mferguson 11-16-2009 12:08 AM

Glad you found it. I hope to have a new version out in the next few weeks that will incorporate some of the enhancements other users have been asking for.

Thanks!

Mark

Kolbi 11-17-2009 03:56 PM

An additional function that could be included to this modification could be that you can disable the notification while moving the thread.

How's the new release progressing?

mferguson 12-17-2009 11:56 PM

I don't expect we'll have another release until sometime in January. With the holidays, vBulletin consulting project, and preparing a new release of our ShowCase product I'm a bit further behind than I had hoped to be right now.

That said what I'm considering for this release include the following:

- ability to use from inline moderation interface
- disable notification form the "redirect options" screen
- option to notify thread author even if it is being moved to non-visible forum (ie - Trash)

hugh_ 12-18-2009 01:02 AM

Thanks your consideration and happy holidays...

paintballer.ie 01-01-2010 08:32 PM

Installed and working. Thank you.

mferguson 01-02-2010 07:15 PM

Great. Enjoy!
