Your collapseable table didn't quite work though. There is a space inbetween title box and body box.

:) Oh not that space is inserted by purpose. You see , vBulletin built-in collapsible script is not working quite well with AJAX so this is the only alternate compatible method.

What version of PHP are you using ? I have many of my friends who are webmasters from different forum to test this error but none of them happen to come across it.

About the method of pulling news from forumids, this cannot be implemented because of the following reasons :erm: :

1. Execute too many queries (slow down the block)
2. This is a manual news block, if it does getting threads automatically it's rather be replaced with TopXStats or some similar MOD.
3. Even though if it could grab thread info, the description and thumbnail will not be as accurate as manual edit at all.

Have you tried to put the ad in dnp_news template?

yes and it would work if I positioned it around the template. However I was trying to figure out a way to put a small adsense adblock where the news images themselves are. Have an adsense ad as the "latest news" image.

Oh google does not let ads to be reloaded in ajax div (http://www.google.com/search?q=adsense+ajax). Until then, we have to live with it.

I can't get this to work or show. I've done the install, made a new article with the entire URL to my thread...and nothing shows on forumhome. Even with adding that variable to forumhome template

Have you uploaded the files and folders? Access your forumhome folder/dnp_news.php sees if it shows up.

I have *tagged* this modification. I love the thought of having articles/news items/threads that you want to highlight and show off as solid ones to guests and members. But, I'm wondering if I should make the forum home further 'busy' or include it on all other pages. Still debating :)

Is anyone using this mod on somewhere other than the forum home page?

it's about 132 line



SilveryHat, my suggestion for new releases:

Add additional filed to certain forum ID in newthread template (just below the message box)
- DNP - title
- DNP - description

and in admincp create new option: "suggested DNP news"

when usergropus is allowed to create DNP news - the thread go into admincp "suggested DNP news" queue and it must be approved by admin/mod

It should not be difficult for you...
Please think about it !

How can I get the "Title of DnP Custom News block" from showing up when I have this mod disabled in the mod area in admincp?

The only way to actually disable the mod is to remove $dnp_news_output from FORUMHOME Style...

As asked before, A Vbadvanced mod would be great as well as being able to order the news rather than the Big News being the last one added.

Another possible addition for the future; being able to set different custom news pages for different sections of the forum. For example, if someones has a general interest website, you could have movie news for a movie forum, music news for a music forum and so on.

No, not at the moment because first off the mod was not designed for vBadvanced.

Yes the link is the tut for hooking the mod to different location on forum. You can configure the News order in the Options of the mod under AdminCP. Other ideas seem good but in second consideration, I need to keep the mod optimized and as fast as it currently is.
