Once I have added all the phrases I will release this as 1.0. That should happen in the next week or so.

I've added this functionality an I've also added code that will allow you to change the name of an existing network.

Tomorrow when I have time in the afternoon, I will go through and add the missing phrases.

I will then add a few forums on my board to coordinate bvBulletin network, giving useful information like "what kind of network" they, admin information and contact info, etc.

What are the rules about setting up another version of he software on a subdomain. That's allowed right?

quarum 05-10-2009 03:13 PM

What is the possibility of adding Blogs to it as well?

For example someone used vBulleting Blog and that Blog is posted as a Blog on the network sites that use vBulleting Blog?

Great idea! Any idea why this table didn't get created when I installed? I also noticed that when I try uninstalling the product and reinstalling the previous data doesn't get deleted.

i am sick of modifying sites so search engines may like em, but considering google ads is good income, i dont want to risk it.

If you're so concerned about duplicate content, you can always hide your network forums from Guests. This would prevent Google from crawling the forum and registering duplicate content.

Not under a single license, you must have 2 licenses if you want to run vbulletin on 2 diff subs, or 2 installs in general. I know this for a fact because I specifically asked the vb support a while back.

Extremely interested.

Does it cause much server strain?

Doesn't seem to on my network. I have my cron set up to run as a Unix cron, so the users on my board don't see any delay. I know of a couple of boards that use vBulletin's built in Scheduled Tasks and it doesn't seem to be a problem with them either.

Of couse, the largest network this has been tested on is 5 messageboards all with moderate activity at best.

Undertaker #59 05-13-2009 10:11 AM

Do the nodes send and receive their packets to everyone else in the network or do they send their packets up to a hub, which then redistributes them to the other nodes?

MmS1 05-13-2009 12:38 PM

can u make it just for attachments
server one only for forums
server two only for attachments

All the nodes send and receive packets to and from all the other nodes on the network. There is no "central hub" that distributes packets.

I don't know what this means.

ComputerModding 05-24-2009 03:00 PM

I got a few simple questions before I have a go with this great little mod.

Lets say that I have two websites in my network and I start a thread on website 1 and after a few days I edit my post on website 1, will the edit also port across to website 2?

On website 1 I have banned a member from the site but they sign up to website 2 and make a post in the networks forum will this post appear on site 1?

A thread is started by a member on site 1 and the administrator on site 2 decides to delete that thread from his website; 1. How will this effect site ones thread and 2. will further posts to the thread on site one be put back onto site 2's forums?

Cheers

Negative. Edits do not propagate to network.

There is an option to ban usernames on certain networks in the configuration.

This brings up a good point. If the user signs up with the same email or username on website 2 and is banned on website 1, the post should be blocked. Or perhaps submitted for approval. I'll add this to my todo list.

For now, you can use the settings in vBulletin options.

This is another configuration option. You can have it so that one of two things happen:

1) the posts from the deleted thread get tossed

2) the posts from the deleted (ie. unknown) thead will go into a new thread created automatically with the title of "Unknown Network Thread ID: XYZ"

hmm, ok. but installation document says:
"The usergroup "Unregistered / Not Logged" must be given permission to view network forums."

is this only required in installation phase?

Negative.

AdminCP -> Usergroup Manager -> Unregistered / Not Logged In -> "Can view Forum"

This option must be set to "Yes" for the plugin to work.

Forum permissions override this setting. So you can still block "Unregistered / Not Logged In" users from a specific forum. But the option above must be "Yes" in order for the plugin to work.

Probably not. As long as the option mentioned above is set appropiately, the vbNetwork plugin should work just fine.

abrecher 05-31-2009 09:29 AM

I have a network of related forums and I was looking for a solution that would accomplish MANY of the items this mod accomplishes. Fantastic work and I really hope to see this product updated and not end up in the grave yard!

Awesome mod!! I was looking for something like this!

I'm running into a database error when trying to run the scheduled task - any ideas what could be causing this?

Just as an addendum, I have a seperate server for mysql - could that possibly be causing the problem?

I.e. my forums are hosted on one server and the database is hosted on another (they are connected by a hard wire though).

If so, is there any way to add support for forums that use separate servers for mysql?

Cheers,

Sharifa

That option is not yet supported. I'll add that option and there are a lot of random phrases I need to add as well. Once that's done, I'll bring the plugin out of Beta. But it's pretty stable as it is.

I'm not sure -why- that would be causing a problem, as I use the same database calling methods that vBulletin uses. But from the looks of the error you posted, that seems to be the problem.

Edit: if you go into your AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> vbNetwork Options and set "Network Error Log Level" to "0" (which I think it is by default), this may fix your problem.

staticrebelle 06-01-2009 07:04 PM

Thanks! Mine was set to 3 so I changed it to 0 :)

Now the only difference is that the mysql errors don't show up. This is what comes up:

Does this mod kill big boards?

Outbackmark 06-09-2009 09:52 AM

How big is big? I have it working on one board with over 8.5 K members and 75 K posts and it is fine, works like a bomb, thanks Zethon very good stuff!!!

OcR Envy 06-10-2009 11:18 AM

No one took this up for porting to work with phpBB and SMF? :(

BlueNinjaGo 06-10-2009 04:01 PM

So, any plans on changing this out of BETA stage?

|Jordan| 06-11-2009 02:10 AM

Wow this mod is complicated to set up.

Some detailed documentation on how to do this would be great.

Doesn't make sense to release something so complicated with vague instructions. How do we beta test if we can't get it working?

It reminds me of those vague Ikea instructions on how to assemble a table. By the time you're done, you've assembled a shelf instead.

xcesivvs 06-16-2009 10:05 PM

This is a fantastiv Mod for me.

I sponsor a lot of forums and i have to post and repost the same message on all the forums, if i get them all to do it i can save heaps of time

I would love to see this pass Beta

Outbackmark 06-19-2009 12:06 AM

Just one little funny to report, when I turn on the "Check Network Emails" function, it posts a copy of incoming posts in a totally unrelated and non networked forum. I turned off the email check function and all is good again.

@Jordan I will try and put together some easy to follow instructions, having just set 3 boards up on a new network I think I have it beat.

I would appreciate those instructions too :) I tried like hell to get this working on just 2 forums and could not get it to work at all. I swear I am not that dumb!

Outbackmark 06-22-2009 01:50 PM

LOL KW, I have PMed the author asking his permission to repost the altered instructions, but no reply as yet.
If he has not replied in another day I will just post them.
