It's not?

Regarding to Al Gore inventing the internet.
There was no internet as we know it before the Clinton/Gore administration.
Not saying either invented it, but the timing was right.

Myth
Back in the 80s, every girl was 18, blonde, blue eyes and home on a saturday night.

Myth
  • 100% uptime
  • unlimited diskspace
  • unlimited bandwidth

uhh....check again. The internet was around long before their administration, it just wasn't released to the public yet.

Sorta.. It was called Arpanet. Something I was using in the military back in the 80's. ;)

biggest myth...

internet marketers = spammers...

another myth..

just cause a site gets alot of traffic... it DOESN'T mean it's successful.. actually yeah um it does you just gotta know how to monetize it...

Making money isn't necessarily the definition of successful either. One could argue that the new whitehouse.gov website is a lot more successful than the previous version but it certainly doesn't make any money.

Making money could be within your definition of a successful website but not in everyone's.

Good question about myths. Latest, at least for me, another myth has dropped. That all those spam posts for viagra etc etc are posts from robots. Latelly I've installed a livechat in my site. One day I seen a visitor's IP matching an IP having post many times about viagra etc. Don't know how it came to my mind, but I tried to initialize a chat with the ...robot. Believe it or not the "robot" replied and we started a general discussion. The "robot's" name is Alexey, and unlike what I believed that he must be a young boy, he is 44 man from Kiev Ukraine, married with 3 children. He is getting 15 US cents for every post plus 30 US cents for every registration in sites. It has nothing to do with the webmaster (eg coming from competitors), nothing to do with vBulletin eighter and finally nothing to do with hight traffic sites. Actually as he admit, in sites with hight traffic moderators remove them very quickly, while in lower traffic sites there is no such quick action.

Wow Maria, Thats very sad that someone has to do this in order to provide for his family :(

Just goes to show that the real culprits are Criminal gangs who stand to make $$$$ by exploiting the poor and needy to do their dirty work.

Thanks for sharing ;)

NOT

That's probably the BIGGEST myth on the web by far.

TruthElixirX 11-07-2009 09:54 AM
