As an Iphone nutter I have installed and cant wait to try it out on my site, when will Apple sort it out then???

Jman423 03-28-2009 02:52 PM

Of course we would all love something for free, but the point is that with this solution becoming commercial, we will receive better support and more frequent updates. Most site administrators that are going to use this are not going to use it on a smaller forum, so the potential for a lot of iPhone users is good, and they'll want support as soon as it is needed.

Not to mention, I'm SURE that there is going to be some major changes needed when vBulletin 4 is released, so administrators that use this will want a timely upgrade option, and you couldn't be sure that a developer do this for free would be able to provide a vB MOD and an iPhone App quickly.

"Ya get what ya pay for"

They are here because this is the place to do something like this, this benefits anyone who immediately buys this solution or buys it in the future, they are getting feedback and bugs reported to the them and are working to resolve as much as possible before the official release.

I've reported a couple of bugs and ensured that they have appropriate abilities to reproduce the issues which helps, so if you are involved in the testing, I would recommend that you talk with Winter and see what you can do to help them help you.

Thanks

The last thing I read says they are "planning" to release vB 4 as a BETA in Q2 of 2009, which would be right around the corner...

Dr.Viggy 03-29-2009 05:51 PM

BBcodes aren't working, not sure if they're supposed to be. for instance, smilies like :birthday4: don't parse into images.

something else I think would be awesome and a huge step for getting the full version would be some kind of aggregate option. Let's say I'm a member of 4 forums within your network, I still have to check each individually. With an aggregator built in I'd be able to see all new posts across all forums at a glance.

rmxs 03-29-2009 06:01 PM

Works Very very good...
i report some small bugs and suggestions and we wait for full version with post/reply.

about the price now..If you have a forum with 100 users for sure you dont need this app.in my opinion is for large forums with many people and with the right promotion this app can be must....

CristianoDiaz 03-29-2009 11:00 PM

I just installed the app and began playing around with it - the only issue I've encountered so far is that reading any threads gives me the following error:

Unexpected error has (sic) received from the server. If this problem persists, please contact your forum administrator. {Reason:Operation could not be completed. (NSXMLParserErrorDomain error 5).

Urban-Desi 03-30-2009 02:30 AM

^^ Did you follow the instructions in Winter's email about the 2 different ZIP files attached.. 3.7 and 3.8 versions... i.e. only upload the 3.7 version if your vB board is on 3.7 etc??

And uploaded the entire folder into the forum root? i.e. /forums/thefolder

And did the iPhone sync perfectly after adding the 2 files attached for this app into your iTunes Library?

------

So far mine works perfectly apart from the My Info tab... that's perfect but when i load GENERAL to load my profile or another posters profile... i get an error saying:

Quote:

Unexpected error has received from the server. If this problem persists, please contact your forum administrator.
[Reason:Internal server error: no function matches method]
I don't understand what that is but i'l forward that onto Winter..

Additional Feature for next beta update id like to see avatars being pulled out and displayed in the posts etc... [if possible] :)

Hi Urban-Desi,

Which forum you are the owner? The avatars should work...

Urban-Desi 03-30-2009 02:13 PM

Yes my 2 minor issues have been fixed by DELETING the whole folder and then re-uploading the files... before i just overwrite the files... hence the glitchy errors.

This mod just underscores the need for a "Paid Modifications" forum. By the time this thing gets released, it will be taken off of VB.org and moved to some 3rd party site where fewer people will find it. That will lead to less revenue for the author, lower incentive to fix bugs and add enhancements, and within 6 months this project will be dead.

This mod DEFINITELY looks like it will be worth paying a small monthly fee to use. It would be a shame for the VB community not to fully know about it because it's not on this site.

andreamarucci 03-30-2009 02:46 PM

I've sent you my email to have the iphone app but i've not received anything. coul you please send?

Thanks everyone, the Pilot forums recruitment is now closed due to overwhelming responses so far - the objectives of this pilot is to have a dry-run of the service on real server and we feel that so far with about 30 forums, it came to a point that it has fairly good representation of different kind of forums (and different server configurations) with different languages.

We have just released the Create / Reply functions support to all the pilot forum owners and is awaiting for further inputs from them and we expect to finish the beta in next two weeks.

Thanks again for everyone's support, stay-tuned to the official release. :)

movslow 04-07-2009 04:33 PM

A price point would be nice.

Our forum is a local auto related forum w/less than 100 active users....however several have expressed interest...I hope the pricing is competitive for us "smaller" guys.

Give us some more time to finalizing last bit of information - you will have full access to all information (i.e. price) very soon folks..

same problem with the latest update as with the april 7th one.

i haven't had any type of resolution suggested to me or heard back from my emails.

yellowpeter 04-10-2009 08:18 AM

Hi vbreal,

The way Apply distribute ad-hoc iPhone app is a pain to manage and easy to mis-install. If your problem persist please wait for a week or two, the official app will be posted at Apple App Store by then.

vbreal 04-10-2009 05:40 PM

miss-install?

i did it the way Ive been doing it. its obviously something else if i was able to reinstall the old version and get it to work fine the same way i installed the new version. i would think as a beta tester you would try to help get it installed correctly vs telling me to wait two weeks. you didn't even suggest anything to try.

ha i will be surprised to see it in the appstore that soon. apple has been lagging on soon they release new apps or even updates to apps.

has it been sent to apple yet?

Hi vbreal,

We have been helping you to install the app - this is a standard Apple iPhone adhoc distribution process and is so far quite confusing to few users. Since this application will be available in app store soon I suggest you can sit back and wait for the seamless install experience with the app store.

We will release one or two more minor iPhone fixes before the official release to you, once it is out we will certainly assist you in installing the ad-hoc built.

Sorry it has bee overwhelming to us on the amount of work to be done - we're focusing so much on bugs fixing and at time not doing so well to help beta-testers getting their app install. :)

Hi AyeCapn,

Sorry the Pilot is closed.. please sit-back and wait for the official launch... :)

Dr.Viggy 04-11-2009 06:16 PM

Added the april 9 release and still having crashing issues here and there. I haven't been able to check on the smilies issue either.

any idea on the price point for the final release before it's out? multi-forum discount?

oh... one other big thing. There are some forums i've found through this app that i didn't know about. Mine happens to have the URL but not all do. Is there a way to include the actual destination address somewhere?

vbreal 04-11-2009 09:18 PM

so i used a different pc and it loaded fine.

umm is anyone else having an issue with the app crashing when you create a new thread or reply to a post. it crashes every time i try and it doesn't submit the post or thread.

Dr. Viggy,

We have yet to hear your bug report so far, would be interested to see where the problems are? Usually we can fix it immediately in subsequence release so the earlier you report to us, the better your forum works with iPhone.. ;-)

Please send us an email. Thank you.

Chris 96 WS6 04-14-2009 12:40 AM

Well pickles. Installed the files on my server only to see after 5 pages that the pilot program is closed.

Please update the first post to notify users the pilot is closed.

I'm extremely interested in this but it all depends on the pricing as my forum operates off very thin margins.

Hi Chris,

We have updated the main page to reflect this. Thanks for reminding us! :)

We have set the official launch date as May 1st. Stay-tuned!

yellowpeter 04-16-2009 02:32 PM

Hi all,

While the pilot is closed, we thought we should share the Tapatalk iPhone app to all forum owners who are interested to have first-hand access to the iPhone app before it releases on App Store with access to participated pilot forums only.

If you are interested to try this out please refer to the beta Tapatalk Support Forum at:

i love how when there is multiple pics in a post. you can view the pics just as you would pics in your album by just swiping to the next pic.

What other updates are planned?
what updates are in development presently?

Just hit me, how does this app handle private areas? im guessing it follows the security settings in VB. i haven't noticed other wise.

When should we expect this to be released in the app store? My iphone users are looking fwd to it after i showed some screen shots of what my site would look like using the app.

posted this in the 3.7 version by accident

yup i bet you $1.00 you will see them add banners in the iPhone ap , thus making money from your forum.

yellowpeter 04-29-2009 03:55 AM

Hi,

We will not put any advertisement on the app, but we plan to develop a toolkit so forum owner has an option to put THEIR advertisement on the app when their members viewing their forum.

Thanks vbreal your nice comment. For the security part we inherit it from vbulletin existing policy, that is, if your forum is supposed to hide from a specific user, it will appear the same in the iphone app.

Again our support forum is just opened in case you want to get first hand information on it is available at http://www.tapatalk.com/forum

We are still awaiting Apple approval for the app to appear on app store.

vbreal 04-30-2009 12:00 AM

im really curious how that ad thing will work.

look fwd to seeing that.

damn apple is so slow with aproving apps. haha

S7rik3R 05-03-2009 09:57 AM

Looks awesome ... I'll wait for the official release.

yellowpeter 05-03-2009 01:31 PM

yah vbreal, we can't believe the time to take to get this on app store...

regarding the advertisement model, we plan to offer a web-based tool so forum can publish small banners (usually their small logo or their sponsor logos at places where does not affect user's already limited screen real-estate. we haven't started on this yet but will once other major features are completed and stablized.

we are still trying to get the private message feature included in the Tapatalk, I really hope apple is not going to let us wait for too long until we can offer this service to all.

dklassen 05-03-2009 03:11 PM

Can't wait until this ready for prime time. Great job!
