Seriously, someone please help. I would be more than happy to pay to get this done, but how will I ever learn. What has gone wrong here?

It needs php5 for this mod to work. However, I still have mysql 4 but still it works.

What portion would that be? I don't have anything linking to avatars. hmmm

Step 5:

Go to FB Connect Options > News-Feed Templates and register default templates. Then Go to FB Connect Options > Settings and save your settings (even if you don't change anything).

Just click Default Templates and it will create default feed to your facebook.

Step 7:

Check FB Connect Options > Settings for new settings and FB Connect Options >Data Mapping to map Facebook data.

If you have not added any profile fields basically I have matched two things here: location and profile picture from vbulletin field to Location and profile picture (max: 100 x 300)px to Facebook field.

I Must be REALLY stupid because I cannot figure out where these areas are located to even go there. When you say "just click default templates", WHERE is that located. Same ?? for step 7.

There is no FB Connect Options > Settings in my AdminCP.

I really do appreciate your help.

Armyqt 01-27-2009 02:18 AM

If I could get a screenshot of this FB Connect Options screen, that would be nice. This is my last post I promise. My next one will be installed!! :D

RvG2 01-27-2009 02:26 AM

see this...

Sorry, that didn't help because I don't know how to get to that screen. Maybe my install didn't go through. Please guide me from the AdminCP.

Armyqt 01-27-2009 02:36 AM

Is the FB Connect Options page the one shown in the OP screenshot?

Armyqt 01-27-2009 02:44 AM

I think I know what the problem is. Whenever I click on ANY of the clickable links on the edit FB Connect page, I am redirected to my main website with a 404 error. My forum is located in a subdirectory. I have a feeling that something in my FB application is not right.

dilbert 01-27-2009 11:09 AM

This looks very interesting, thank you for the work you've done.
How does this manage duplicate users?
Let's say you have unique emails turned on, does it ensure the Facebook email isn't already in the vB database?
What if the Facebook name is already in the vB database?

Armyqt 01-27-2009 11:51 AM

I enabled PHP 5 on my server and now I'm getting this error when I go to my forums home.

Quote:

Just tried this on my test site, followed all the install instruction to the letter and it works a treat..........THANKS:)

MrToasty 01-27-2009 01:04 PM

Awesome hack!

I don't think I'll install though, as I'm a simple kind of a guy and dislike having to edit templates manually whenever reverting is required on vb updates. So I don't think this hack is for me... It's a pity this kind of thing can't be done without the edits. (Yes, I know it's not possible)

Armyqt 01-27-2009 03:12 PM

:D:D Installed!! Thanks Sllik!! Very fast and efficent.

facebook connect will ask you a username which will immeidately check it in your database if such username exist or not.

actaully, on my install when a user from facebook joined, it asked if they where already a member, and if so, it asked to enter the username in a box.

Yes same here. This mod is awesome, but after I read the install instructions and noticed all those template edits I had to back off. :(

I already have many styles with template edits and it's a pain in the ass to manually edit them when I upgrade my forums. :(

This is a great mod but not for lazy guys like me. :( :p

solidlink 01-27-2009 05:38 PM

i have not yet installed this but i got a question which may not sound smart

"This add-on allows your guests and existing users to login with their Facebook account through Facebook Connect."

and

"Benefits of Facebook Connect

* Users can simply login with their Facebook account without going through the registration process."

i dont really get it, does it mean guests dont have to register on my forum?

If they come through using the Facebook Connect it draws information from Facebook and creates an account for them.

They become a registered user.

If you already have a Facebook account and are a member of your board you can connect that Facebook account to the board allowing it to post "stories" or other things like that.

Ricsca 01-27-2009 09:03 PM

Demo?

morenoy 01-27-2009 09:33 PM

only registered users can connect with their facebook accounts right?
or anyone who has facebook can connect to the forums without registration to my forum?

*edit*

christian8a 01-27-2009 10:27 PM

wayyy too much template editing, but seems like a nice way to ease the registration for users. Sux my profile pictures and some fields are not close, but to start a new site with this mod is a good idea

restless 01-28-2009 12:03 AM

I'm having a problem getting users who use fbconnect to be put into the appropriate Usergroup.

I created a new usergroup "Facebook", which has the id "17". I put 17 in the FB Connect settings under Default User Group ID. No users are being put in that group.

Any ideas?

Ryuk 01-28-2009 12:06 AM

Uhm.. I dont know... but this is not working o_o
I've done every thing the readme file said, but its not working =O
And yes, I got php 5.2.8 so its not php-related.
Any help on this?
The facebook stuff are not showing up o-o

TNCclubman 01-28-2009 01:56 AM

Automatically befriend user's friends
If any of the user's friends are also registered on the forum, they will automatically be friends!

How does it know who's your friends? By email? Username? Can you explain how this works?

forexforum 01-28-2009 02:41 AM

Works perfectly but yes, the usergroup did not go into the Facebook group I created. It went straight in userid:2 which is Registered Users. Please helP?

Ryuk 01-28-2009 02:50 AM

Im still waiting to know why didnt it work on my forum o_o

soulface 01-28-2009 07:23 AM

If a guest can simply become registered on your forum without passing the human verification then doesn't that leave you open to spam?

I would love to install this but i wouldn't love the tons of work later deleting the spam, anyone got any guidance on this?

It only puts new Facebook users into that group, if you are connecting your Facebook account to a regular member it won't move that member, they maintain their former group.

restless 01-28-2009 01:15 PM

Is there any indicator on the admin side to show what existing users may be using this feature?

Lone Gunman 01-28-2009 03:11 PM

after you type in your nickname while first logging on using this, it just goes to a blank white page. any ideas? i disabled everything else and it still does it.

on IE i get an error on the nickname screen. line 390. char 29. syntax error. code 0. url http://brianslawn.com/forum/fblogin.php

This is one of the best ever hacks I think for Vbulletin.

I think, you should provide more info on mapping facebook to vbulletin fields. What's the right way to do it?? Should we just create the exact same fields in vbulletin and map them with their corresponding facebook fields????

Ryuk 01-28-2009 07:56 PM

Uhm... still waiting for support as of why its not working on my site <_<

I am looking for more use of the profile fields too. For example, if you are a private forum and dump all your people who register thru fb connect into a limited visibility usergroup, then a new account in your approvals bucket willl just show their username and the facebook generated unresolved email.

i was hoping to use facebook so i can recognize the person but that cant happen if the fields arent populated other than just login name and an email that we can never recognize visually.

Dude, you've bumped 3 times in less than 24 hours on the same issue, give the developer a chance to respond hey  He hasn't been on for a couple of days, thats why he hasn't given you support yet.

Simon, we have been using this for the last couple of days and it works well, no spam problems. The only part we have deactivated is the news feed because of the privacy/permission issue - hopefully this is something that will get looked into soon though in a future release :)

Ryuk 01-28-2009 10:22 PM

Lol I know I have o_o and IM sorry if anyone took my "Bumps" as a "rude"-like attitude. My intentions are not to be rude but to get some help ^^ thats all.
