Have you enabled it? Are you viewing the forums as a guest to test it?

Deimos 06-01-2008 11:35 PM

For me, using 3.7.1, the "Register Take-Over Message Count" doesn't work (Set to 5 posts/threads)
But, the 2nd option does "Register Block Page Count"

Both are enabled, first it set to 5 posts/thread, the second one is set to 10
After 5 threads, it doesnt' show any box about registering
After 10, I get the generic "Hey! You need to register" box and it blocks me from viewing anymore.

Deimos 06-01-2008 11:36 PM

By the way, is there anyway the Excluded Forum Ids box, could be a multiple selection list of all the forums?
I have a LOAD of forums, so adding each manually using the forum ID is going to take hours.

mktrilogy 06-02-2008 03:24 AM

is it possible for this to be enabled to a certain forum only? coz the rest of the forum can be handled with VB fucntion, in a way it will work on a teaser section or category.

To avoid overhead it's just a list at this time.

You can disable any/ nearly all forums from being affected through the admin cp options area.

neologan 06-02-2008 07:43 AM

i use notices to similar affect, so i thought what this might do is grey out the forums and a message displays saying they should register etc, and the user would click this to carry on browsing.

I've seen this on other forums before, anyone know what it is or if this could be worked into thi version. i think it has a better chance of improving resitrations like this.

Please read the initial post and instructions file.

setishock 06-06-2008 11:45 PM

It doesn't seem to affect my site as far as the search bots go. I have mine set at 5 & 5 and they happly crawl away over the content.

donnyaz 06-15-2008 04:14 AM

Love it,easy install. it would be awesome if we could change the color of the notice. Is that possible ????

You can customize the message for the notice by editing the lgv template. The error message uses your default error page template.

okhissabigfish 06-15-2008 05:18 PM

Great Idea and works likes a champ. Is there a fairly easy way to change the background color of the blocked notice? Sort-a means business...but not in a rude way!

Deep/Dark Blue w/White Text ?

Thank you for your work and time!

See my previous post.

Ted,

Thank you for the work you do. I've been reading this forum and learning as I go. I have downloaded several HACKS and they've all worked wonderfully, mostly because you guys do such a great job.

I'm a newbee...as I have noticed a lot of other folks in here are too...when I asked for help with changing the colors of this Mod it was because I don't have nearly the knowledge that you and others have in order to take this to a more customized level.

Tonight I sought out some basic HTML courses and did not find anything that remotely explains how to add color in this..what I'm calling PHP coding or script? I hope I'm saying this right.

Thank you for your patience. What is the exact script, if you know, that would make the notice have a differnt background or text to fully make this stand out and be more visible to my visitors who want to come and get the benifit of the forum without registering.

Here is where I believe one would add a change in order to make the Mod even more customized. I hope I'm on the right path...

Is it just me or does this add a few seconds lag before showthread.php loads when you're not logged in?

donnyaz 06-18-2008 01:26 PM

Ted could you please give a bit more detail on where to find lgv template and what to change ?

The template can be found in your admin control panel, templates & styles and then each style you want to change it for. As far as what to change, it's just basic html code stylized with a little css. If you aren't familiar with basic html, checkout www.w3schools.com

I don't see why not.

aajobj 06-26-2008 08:20 PM

Fixing Welcome headers compatibility for 3.7.x (duplicating messages).

In navbar this worked for me:
<if condition="$lgvmessage==''">
<if condition="$show['notices']">
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
<tr>
<td class="thead">$vbphrase[notices]</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="alt1">$notices</td>
</tr>
</table>
<br />
</if>
</if>

You can edit any of the messages through the Limited Guest Viewing options in the AdminCP.

Installed! Thank You Thank You Thank You!!! Should be included with vBulletin!

okhissabigfish 07-07-2008 10:26 PM

Idea:

When the message appears the backgound fades and the notice is on top. Then the visitor has to clear the message to bring the site back up or can bring it back up by hitting the Register Now link in the body of the message.

:)

Nice idea but not really the intent of this hack. You could probably do that with a little javascript and a basic template change.

I've explained it as best I can in the main post and install file and would simply be citing them to answer you again. Unless you have a specific question, please refer to those two sources.

Please read the main post and the install file which explains the official stance on how this addon relates to bots. With that information in hand you can make your determination as to whether or not you'd like to use it.
