When I log in, it tells me there is a message the Admin wants you to view. I click the link, and it just brings me to a "page cannot be found" link. I open it in a new tab (in BOTH IE and Firefox) and open in new window. I get the same thing. It takes multiple sign-off, sign-ins to get this to work. This is not the first time this has happened either. Previous admin messages have resulted in the same thing.

this is what i got from a members and i tried a new accoutn for test and it works out for me

I dont know. I would have to look at your ACP to figure it out.

Ok maybe I was not clear enough. I have the same problem that users described here. I entered a new threadid and saved the entry. It says that the entry was saved sucessfully but its not showing up.

Do you have any major hacks?

For sure I have hacks installed but what do you mean with major hacks?

Alfa1 03-11-2008 11:46 PM

I just added a thread in the adminCP options, but after that it does not show in adminCP. When browsing the affected forum, I can just browse anywhere without any effect.

Do you have any ideas to solve this?

Maybe you have a hack that interferes with this one.

What if you have vbSEO installed and it rewrites your URL so you don't know what your thread ID is?

delta88 03-23-2008 12:14 PM

Does this have the ability to set the frequency, without reseting it manually?

Not right now.

Paradigm 03-25-2008 04:10 PM

How would I go about customizing the message that it displays?

I have sent you a PM with a listing of the hacks I have installed.

I'm having the exact same problem. On a fairly "stock" forum.

KURTZ 03-28-2008 11:30 AM

Abe, i just tried to install this mod onto Beta 5 and i saw your instructions:

Quote:

Open file global.php

Find:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
if (!empty($db->explain))
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Place BEFORE:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
($hook = vBulletinHook::fetch_hook('global_setup_complete') ) ? eval($hook) : false;
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Save file.

Open file includes/xml/hooks_vbulletin.xml

Find:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
<hook>global_start</hook>
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Place AFTER:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
<hook>global_setup_complete</hook>
--------------------------------------------------------------------
i checked these files, and i saw that these lines are already in these files ... :)

SVTOA 04-01-2008 10:40 AM

I had this working fine yesterday, now today the ACP does not show the option to add or change the thread anymore. The thread we used for a test is being read by all members.

Other suggestion- Instructions are not clear, I think some people may be taking an entire thread URL and pasting it into the thread ID box. What goes there is only the number of the thread, nothing else. That's why some of you do not see the thread. Try just he thread id number...

SVTOA 04-01-2008 10:42 AM

To add: I can access the edit option by direct-typing the url to the control- "/admincp/force_read_thread.php"

Lilyandy 04-01-2008 11:52 AM

bug...................................

see...............@@

SVTOA 04-01-2008 12:40 PM

Now some members say it keeps making them read the topics over and over...

Great mod and it works for most of my members, but I've had two members (so far) out of a total of 300 registered members and 50 who have logged in since I enabled the mod, who get stuck and can't access the site.

They see the splash screen (The Admin wants you to read this thread), but when they click on the link, they get an error screen so can't continue in to the site.

Member #1 contacted me with this message
Quote:

It says that the administrators want me to view a thread before I browse the forum. Then it has a link for me to click.
Whe I click the link, it does not take me to a thread, just has 3 reasons that the link did not work..
Member #2 posted this:
Quote:

when I jumped on this morning it said I had to open the thread before I could go anywhere else.. I clicked the button to open it and i got the oops error page.. I went back and tried again, same thing. I even tried just bringing up the link on the right under your name that says you have ### many unread post, still got the error page.. so it locked me out for a little today. I ended up clicking on the calender link and that some how got me to the new thread. so I am not sure if it was just me, and I am hoping others are not having a issue getting to the forums
I am asking both members about what browser they are using... any ideas or suggestions? I think it is a GREAT and useful mod and would have to hate to not use it because it "breaks" the site for some people.

Installed and works great. Thanks

DannyITR 04-18-2008 06:05 PM

Installed and works but....when I enable the product my forum is noticeably slower. Any ideas why?

Dont know. I would need to see the the explain page that you can see when you are in debug mode to figure it out.

FlyBoy73 04-23-2008 07:49 PM

I have a fairly large forum and when I enable this it also is noticeably slower and the loads really shoot up there. Maybe not meant for large forums?

Alfa1 04-24-2008 12:16 AM

It would be very nice to know this.

Any way I can see the results from the explain page when in debug mode?

nikki712 04-30-2008 04:53 AM

I had the 3.6 version installed. I disabled all of my plugins before updating from 3.6.10 to 3.7 gold. The Force read wasn't working. So I uninstalled and then installed the latest version. I can get it to work, but what about the old threads that I had made force-read with the 3.6.x version? I'm getting vb db errors in my email due to those threads. It seems I have no way to manage the previous force-read threads now that I've upgraded the plugin. And even before I upgraded, I still couldn't manage them because the link in "thread tools" was gone. How can I fix this?

oz_girl 05-04-2008 06:38 AM

Reserved :D

It had to uninstalled before you upgraded versions. You have to uninstall this version, reinstall the old version then uninstall it so it clears out all old things. After, you can re-install this version.

Great mod :)

Can I just ask, does this mod work if a user is logged in already as "remember me"?

Cheers

Wouldn't it just be easier to fully qualify the URL in the code instead of using a relative URL?

EcoForumZ 05-07-2008 10:35 PM

Very nice! Installed! Excellent work!

Cloverfield 05-08-2008 10:16 PM

Brilliant hack, thank you. One question though, how do you force guests? I cannot see that option. Is it in the usergroup box? Because in there is no guests usergroup.

CDNR 05-09-2008 01:24 PM

Cloverfield, when you force a thread on the users, you can choose user groups. I just tested it with guests and it works fine.

Great hack, Abe1. Works great on 3.6.x. Thanks bunches!

LoRdGd 05-10-2008 10:23 AM

When im adding a new thread to force, there is nothing on list when i click 'save'
Im using vb3.7.0
http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?i...e5db8c3vv8.png -> save -> http://img341.imageshack.us/my.php?i...e5e94fahu7.jpg
