Just watched Cocaine Cowboys. It was a documentary about the drug wars in Miami in the late 70's and early 80's.
It was the real story told by the main players in the game. I enjoyed it. |

Two movies I watched recently, both Gangster films:
- City of God (Cidade de Deus) - Shottas Both are great and not for the kiddies. Out of the two I liked City of God the most. ;) Note: The versions I saw were subtitled. I could understand most of Shottas (which is in "English") without them, but there are many parts in the film where you'll need them. As the film goes on you'll catch on to some of the dialect used...but at some points you'll be asking yourself "Was that English!?". ;) City of God is probably one of the best films I've seen....but I'm a sucker for things based on a true story. :) |
Eastern promises is a pretty good movie :) If you can deal with the shower scene ;)
|
Has anyone else seen Children of Men yet? I thought it was really good...very moving. Quite violent, though.

Yeah I enjoyed that one. I liked the scene at the end when they are leaving the building. The one where the soldiers and rebels both see what she is carrying they just stop fighting and escort her out of the building.
|
Just finished watching both The Order of the Phoenix and At World's End (Pirates of the Carribean) on Blue Ray. Enjoyed both. Must say, I'm groovin on my Blue Ray player. Looks great on the 43" plazma and sounds great on surround sound!

I just saw Monster last night. It was a very interesting film and I couldn't believe the lead was Charlize Theron, I thought she did a very good job, however, at some points in the film, I was not impressed by the screen play.

For those that don't know this movie is about a female serial killer from Florida. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aileen_Wuornos |

"Altered" Eduardo Sanchez's follow up to "Blair Witch", better than expected but where the heck did he spend $8 million on this one  Interesting take on the alien abduction sub genre, though some might find the gore off putting. Not alot but Sanchez doesn't hold back. As a Director he's improving, will catch his next flick. |
The Departed - Was a good movie, lots of neo-con agenda shit in it though.
Oh, I AM LEGEND, this movie had potential, and smith was good at acting like he's all alone, but a really shitty writer ruined it half way through, with a freaking giant plot hole and a stupid ending. |
I thought Stardust was quite captivating. :)

I didn't enjoy i am legend either :)
|
I saw Children of Men, thought it was so-so, but enjoyed I am Legend. It wasn't the best, but it was a good birthday movie last Saturday.
|
I just watched "28 Weeks Later" and I am so scared right now..
|
Balls of Fury (Maggie Q, Jason Scott Lee and Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa of Hawaii are in it). :)
Underdog (Cute movie) Rush Hour 3 (Funny and action-packed like the other 2) Firehouse Dog (Family oriented) |

"Evil Dead 2", cult classic time. |
Stardust was an amazing film! I watched it three times in row. :)
In my queue at blockbuster:

Never seen Evil Dead 2 does it come in bluray or hd-dvd? |
I love the Evil Dead movies!
Anyway, I just saw Good Will Hunting (Yes, not so new) ... It was really good, I really enjoyed the acting from Minnie Driver, Robin Williams, and Matt Damon. The Boston accents were a little...over the top? But overall, a very good film! |
|
Wow, I saw so many movies and forgot about this...
|
I just saw The Number 23 with Jim Carrey. It had some interesting twists. I liked it.
Another one was with Hally Berry. I can't recall the title, but, she is a reporter that goes under cover to investigate a friends death. It had one of the best ending twists. |
The Usual Suspects and Se7en. Quite the night. ;)

I saw the negotiator and it was ok, but those other 2 were some of his best work. Did you know you will not see him in the credits of Se7en anywhere?
|
Aww, I really liked it, but you are right...he kicked butt in those 2 movies! He plays an awesome bad guy! HM! Really?! I never noticed that! I'm gonna watch it again today! I wonder why he wasn't in the credits? Hey, did you like American Beauty? I thought he was great, but the end really made me sad.

Thanks for the recommendation! It's at the top of my NetFlix queue...should be here by Wednesday or Thursday. |
Another excellent Kevin Spacey movie is "The Life of David Gale" from 2003. If you see that one, let me know what you think of it. I almost felt sorry for the character in this one until I caught on to what he was doing about half-way into the movie. It makes a very powerful statement to a very touchy issue.
|
Gosh, I thought I had already seen that one, but upon reading the synopsis at IMDB, now I don't think I have. I know I wanted to! Another addition to my queue. Thanks again!:D
|
No problem. Let me know how you like that one and Albino Alligator. ;)
|
You know I will!:D;)

And Albino Alligator? Well, I'm still trying to wrap my head around that ending. Matt Dillon is so good at playing the loose cannon/creep/bad guy, doesn't he? William Fichtner's character was just scary. I'd hafta say that I liked it...it kept me wondering what would happen next. Speaking of movies that mess with your mind, have you ever seen The Machinist with Christian Bale? Great movie, but a total mind-f***! In my opinion, this was Bale's best performance ever. Keep in mind that he made this film right before Batman Begins...I'm still blown away by the differences in his physical appearance. Here's a bit of trivia about that from IMDb: "Dropped an amazing 63 pounds for his role as the emaciated insomniac Trevor Reznik in the film Maquinista, El (2004) with only a single vitamin consultation with a nutritionist to guide him. For the most part, he only ate salads and apples, chewed gum, smoked cigarettes, and drank nonfat lattes." |
Albino Alligator is definitely a Kevin Spacey direction. He brought a lot of his characterizations to that movie. The not knowing what would happen next (as in The Usual Suspects) and the graphic violence (as in Se7en). This movie will be long remembered more for Spacey's direction than anything else, I think.
I saw The Machinist and it was an OK movie. As far as it being his bewt performance ever, I would say one of his best, definitely. I don't think he has hit his true mark yet in that area. He hasn't gotten a lot of good roles yet, but I think he will in time. It'll be that one sleeper movie than makes everyone sit up and notice him. One of my favorite movies of all time is Jeremiah Johnson with Robert Redford. Troy is another good one that got passed over a lot. |
Oooh, I'm sorry you didn't like The Machinist that well.:(
Eeesh, the only thing I like about Troy was looking at the hot men.:D Never saw Jeremiah Johnson. Now, if we're talking favorites, The Shawshank Redemption is my all-time fave.:up: |
