Intresting question... :-)

But I think this woud be really tricky. - Why?
We would need a table with (fictional) geographical Data of the fictional map, e.g.:
fictional Place, fictional Zip-Code, fictional Country, fictional latitude, fictional longitude

Thank you for this great add-on !!!!
I have a question, is it possible to have a map of Europe with Switzerland, France and Belgium ?
Thank you for your answer :)

Vossi 08-08-2007 02:01 PM

We 're going to publish a map of europe quite soon....

Actually, we didn't expect that much feedback for our AddOn so that we will do our best und plan more time for the maps right now...

howiulf 08-08-2007 02:37 PM

@vossi and rober,

I thanked u 4 the membermap at vbh quite soon.

But I've 2 tell u that u just went out to the world I little bit 2 early :D . I'm really sure u manage it. Don't worry about the lots of asks for US n other maps, this hack is just excellent.

There is going to be a test for the maps right now, maybe somebody who has already installed the AddOn and made it viewable for guests can put the link in here meanwhile?!

Can you provide a demo login please? if not its not a real demo. THank you.

SVTCobraLTD 08-09-2007 12:33 AM

Cant view the demo as you need an account... can I view just one state in the US? My site is dedicated to PA members so it would be nice to have just a PA map.

I'd be interested in a California USA map.

I've changed the permission for guest, so you can see it.

But I really would appreciate if nobody tries to hack my board - thank you.

Well, in the instance of video games, the game maps have co-ordinates. Any data would be custom created. This is what I would use it for, and yes I have geo data for the game. I am not asking you to make it, I am just wondering if there will be any instruction on adding custom maps. ;)

I actually thought of this (vB custom maps, not your mod) a while back, and this mod probably wouldn't be well suited to this purpose. My twist idea is to define location on the map by Who's Online. So different areas would represent different forums and threads. Obviously it would show who is where on the map based upon where they are on the forum. Sort of a visual map of your forum's current activity.

Hm... the more I think about it - the more I like the idea. What I think about is something like a 'map-construction-module' for this AddOn where a self-drawn map could be loaded and certain points be fixed with names by the users. Then it's getting converted into a 'map-package' and it can be used just like a normal map.

Hm..... that would take some time, but in generall it could be possible!

Give us some time that we can publish more major maps and after we finished and published 1.0.5 we might give it a try. ;)

ozmazdaclub 08-09-2007 09:40 AM

looks great... need a hand doing a map for australia? i don't mind helping.

Vossi 08-09-2007 01:58 PM

@Americans:
Does anybody want to test the US-map in order to check, if the range of the map is OK and if the places are well ordered? I would like to know if everything is correct before we're going to publish the US-map. Please send me a PN with your eMail-adr. so that I can mail it to you... Thanks in advance!

psxnet 08-09-2007 04:07 PM

Doesn't seem so yet.........

Installed ready for one though :D:D

kaostik 08-09-2007 05:23 PM

neat little mod...good work.

+1 for a Canada/USA (North America) map

355Nation 08-09-2007 08:37 PM

Sweet...I hope to see the USA in there soon. :)

Vossi 08-09-2007 08:43 PM

I attached the actual USA-map right into this message for you to download. I can attach 10 files only in the start message, that's why I continue here with the maps... :o

Plase check it out. I hope that I got the correct range for the map and that the locations are getting well shown. If not, then let me know and I'm going to correct it as soon as possible!

The zipcodes in this package must be entered without the state-code, e.g.: 10001 for New york!

Vossi 08-09-2007 08:45 PM

Oh, what I forgot to mention:

In case you like this AddOn you are all welcome to nominate this as Hack of the Month.... :D

nyqnzguju 08-09-2007 11:20 PM

Why Not A World Map????

Better

Ba$im 08-09-2007 11:24 PM

hello
is there any way to include Saudi Arabia on it?

thanks for gr8 work

Rober 08-10-2007 01:21 AM

World Map
Creating a map really takes some time, it's not only drawing a picture.
Vossi worked the whole day on the US-Map..... the world? we are going to map it! ;-)

Saudi Arabia
I do not have any geodata of Saudi Arabia at the moment,
if we will get such data, we would be able to provide a "Saudi Arabia"-map...
or if you/we will get only a table with the locations and zip-codes of Saudi Arabia,
I think I would be able to get the suitable geodata (longitude & latitude).
(Do you have such a table?)

سلام‎ Robert :)

WOW I love these types of hacks. I'm going to give this one a shot. But from reading I think the usa is going to be very important for people on this forum.

I've changed the standard map to US. But I've tried to add some various US zipcodes (eg. 90001 for LA, 48205 for Detroit) and the save Button doesn't appear. This could be because of my Internet Explorer settings at work. I'll give it a try at home.
btw: Alaska and Hawaii is missing ;)

I've seen that guest's can't change the map, maybe you should add an option to usergroups-permission "Can change map?"

I thought that the ZIP-Code in the US are a combination of 2 characters and 5 numbers, e. g. NY 10001... Aren't they?

I've used this site for zip codes: http://www.visitingdc.com/zip-code/n...-zip-codes.asp
I don't know if they are correct :(
