It's very nice, I wish this hack could show usergroup colors though.
A few things I would also like to see is:

1. Add remove users from the list at random(improve realism).
2. Assign no. of fake users by range ( ex: 10 - 50 ).
3. Enter a time(range) for username redistribution (ex: 5 - 45 Mins) for shuffle. (see no.2)
4. Make compatible with usergroup colors.

imo this could greatly enhance the realism of this hack and make it a tremendous help to forum owners.

one small issue. If users click on a link of one of the currently active users, they'll transfered to the users memberinfo and there they can see the "real" last activity option.

Your hack should fake this also for the time being or?

Ok, I know this is not my modification, but this guy has not updated in a long time and I've managed to find a temporary fix to a big problem involving this modification.


As it stands, this modification when installed, shows all members in usegroup 2 (registered members) as being online in the "what's going area." Although this is a grand idea, a problem arises when actual members see their username online while they are not online. This could actually harm your forum, I think. So to alleviate this problem, you have to edit this modification a little bit.

I chose to edit this mod using notepad and this is what I did.

Open the .xml file using notepad and look for the following code:"user WHERE usergroupid = '6'

Mine says '6' because I tested this with the admins at my forum, but your .xml file will display usergroup 2.

It is obvious that this modification already functions on usergroup permissions, so what you have to edit is the usergroup id that you want to appear online. Usergroup id 2 is for actual members, so if I were you, I would create a whole new usergroup just for this modification alone and place the id in the appropriate location in the .xml file and then upload it to your admincp.

This should not be difficult as most of us already have fake users in our admincp, I know I do and I'm sure you do too.

Notice: this slight update from me only addresses that one problem. I'm currently looking at other means of updating the others issues surrounding this modification, even though it is not mine.

This modification is just too good to let it "sit here and rot."


There you have it, one problem, slightly fixed.

Please make a new update that allows it to select a random member each time, i want to select 5 random members aswell as not affect their last online time, so that my Inactive users e-mail reminder hack will still work. this would be good if it could show each of the members in different places, In the wol is shows them all on the index, would it be possible to have them show on random pages/threads?

I feel like a noob, but I can't find out where you edit the amount of fake users you want online.
When you say "Admin Control Panel > Fake Users > Add Member >" do you mean Fake Users is like a category/drop down menu? Because I can't find anything like that and under the plugin manager there doesn't seem to be anything where you can edit the amount of users.

Ok,

First, make sure you upload the product "fake users" into your admincp. Once you get this one, it will update the templates automatically, usually upon installation.

Then, once you installed it, go into your admincp again, but this time go to the "option" and here where you will look for the product "fake users" among the list of other things in your vb.

In case you dont know, the options tab is where you can find your site's name, censorship options and all kinds of useful information.


It is here, where you fill edit how many users you want to appear online.

it works, but to a degree. it lists the members in the current active users box (whats going on box) but when you actually click on the link to view where they are, they are not listed.

Atleast you can get it to work, i get some stupid SQL error on the CRON.

Atakan KOC, thank you very much for the mod. At present I have notices it does not add up 'Current Active Users' as Guests+Members in the members online list. Could you sort out this small problem?

I'm also waiting to see the "active users" issue fixed. This would be a great mod otherwise.

when I install this hack the user that it shown in the online user was not shown & that user last activity may be very old

BTW, mine does up the total amount of members online. However, it would be nice if it updated there profile to say these members were online.

If you want the online list to display users from multiple user groups

Find:

Replace with:

Changing each xx to your usergroup id.

Keep adding OR usergroupid= 'xx' for every usergroup you want to add.

It works perfectly. The only problem is that the active members rotate, so... if someone really paid attention to it... they might figure it out. The vistor part works perfect.

For those who are worried about users finding out it's fake. Simply disable the WOL from the usergroups.

why not add a script where it triggers the online image so users won't say anything about them being fake.
