Certainly looks interesting, but you're not supporting it ?

(or did you just forget to tick the box ?)

A couple of bugs, but perhaps it is just because I have 3.6.2 running?

1) When you have 10+ categories, and you order said categories, it doesn't know that 10 is greater than 9. If you want that 10th category and beyond, you have to use 91, 92, 93+ to numerically "order" the category display.

That's the terrible way on indexing on numeric fields. That's why I'm always starting numbering from 11 or 101 depending on how many items I believe that I'll have.
In any case I think that I'll remove this indexing replacing it by AZ or record number.

2) Carriage returns do not work in the articles. You can have 20 paragraphs, yet the entire article will have just 1 running paragraph with no formatting. I'm sure this is just a bug or an issue with having 3.6.2 vb version, but it is a deal breaker unfortunately.

That's why I avoid to use vb internal features. First time I decided to use its editor and here are the troubls. Sorry my friend but as you can see at:
http://www.madebymary.com/forums/vba...e&articleid=17
I've posted an article and paragraphs and styles (italics, bold, colors) are working fine at 3.6.4

Seems that I must replace it with my own editor.

I'm going to have to tinker with this :)

Wait... will this be free or can we just pay to have the copyright removed?

This module, as it's here it's totally free without any time limit. Copyright removal costs $25.
A question now: GARS is a module for vB or a RSS feeds system? If it's the second I'm also bought it for one of my other sites, but this is in different category. My module is not feeds fetcher in any way. Is a community module where users are posting articles (stories) to be reading, reviewing and rating. The commercial version has also multimedia features, but sure none feed fetcher.

A little bug I've noticed.....

It does not check if you've entered a title for the article. I think this should be mandatory.
Also, within the Admin Control Panel --> vbArticles --> Categories page. The Category title is a link, but doesnt link to anything, just goes to a blank page. The link could be removed.

Other than that, it looks fine to me :D . Great mod.

When the title is empty is replacing with ".....", so the links to the article is working. Many users dont like to add, or dont know what to place as title and letting it empty.

Fixed and zip file updated. Just replace vbarticles_admin.php uploading it at your admincp folder. It left behind from the commercial version when I was thinking to add extra fields, but finally I used another methond. Thanks for reporting it.

I still think it should be mandatory. Let's say you've got 100 articles in a category and no one puts a title or short description (neither of which are mandatory at the moment). How will you know what the article is about? You'll just have a list of "..." . Think of the title field like a thread title field.

Also forgot to mention in my previous post.... paragraphs dont work as has been posted by other members. When you submit an article, it forgets you've made paragraphs in your box. Also, the "IMG" button is missing in the article editor. You can however type the [*IMG] tag in yourself, and it works perfectly. Im using Vbulleting 3.6.4, PHP5, MySQL 4.1 if that helps you.

Maybe you'll edit an option in the AdminCP: "User must add title?" - Yes/No

So everyone would be happy :)

By the way, as I may have already said before, great MOD and INSTALLED. Planning on purchasing the complete package.

Attitude5ire 01-12-2007 12:07 PM

Hmm im sorry maybe i'm missing this but, Admins or Mods can only edit own file not other files..? Did i miss an option somewhere..? How can the Mod/Admin Edit other Articles posted in these. I just see edit options in My Articles.
Excellent MOD..

ehh?? Strange. I've checked it many times, you can test it in my demo site two. Even if the member hasn't post a photo in his profile, you must see a "No Photo" there. I'll check the code, as I just cut lines from the commercial version to publish the Lite version and maybe I cut some lines mores..

Excellent MOD..

Admins and Mods can edit other files in 2 ways:
  1. If they've approval on, then on any new article or any modification of the article.
  2. In frontend, in full article view at the bottom you can see a Delete or Set/Unset as Editor choice (if you're logon as Admin/Mod).
But what exactly do you mean editing an article? Admin can edit only some parts: eg moving category if the user has post it in wrong category. If you mean, editing the article itself (text), no they can't.

Yes sorry, I should have explained better. There is a box saying no photo. I realise now its the profile picture as opposed to the avatar. Is it possible to change it to show the avatar instead?

I don't understand. I submitted a test article in your own vbarticles yesterday. It got approved. I used carriage returns to format paragraphs. It didn't work there either...on your own system:

http://www.madebymary.com/forums/vba...e&articleid=14

So what is the fix here? We have to use our own editors...not the one that comes with vbarticles? How do we do that? I don't understand.

I think this is an incredible mod Mary, one that I will most likely buy, and I will definitely nominate as Mod of the Month. It just needs to be tweaked a little (especially the paragraph issue). Keep up the great work! :)

To avoid any misunderstanding (dont forget that I'm already 50yo). Let's get it clear.
  • The article that you post in my demo, was written by the editor that vbArticles has, or it was a text written (copy and paste) from another editor or written in a word proccessor??
  • Have you the same problem using vBulletin's editor in your forums too?

Good points.

1) I copied/pasted from the lorum/ipsum site.

2) I have never had any such problem with my own editor in my own forums. I can copy/paste, and create articles there as well, w/o problem.

However, I just created a new article, using the editer that vbArticles has, and the same exact problem (no paragraphs) exist.

I have the same problem.

Did a test post with me typing and the paragraphs disappear

excellent work

project-Buckfas 01-12-2007 03:19 PM

Been waiting for this for a while. Great work. Thank you!

soletrader 01-12-2007 03:36 PM

i am having a problem. Although I have submitted an article and the category lists (1) as in one article, when I view the category it tells me there is no article in place.

Would you know what I may have done wrong? Thanks

zemic 01-12-2007 03:38 PM

Have you approved the article via Admin Control Panel ??

jellybaby 01-12-2007 03:39 PM

Have you set it so that articles dont have to be approved first? Sounds like it is set for approval - which can be done via the vbarticles section in the admincp

Deska 01-12-2007 03:43 PM

This is most wanted hack :D
I know many users here waiting for it :)

GamerJunk.net 01-12-2007 04:34 PM

jellybaby 01-12-2007 07:02 PM

Is there any way of uploading a picture after the article has been added?

NFLfbJunkie 01-12-2007 07:14 PM

To insert images in to the body of the article use the coding for inserting images.

Which actually, may be a way (although an inconvenient one) to get around the paragraph non-formatting issue. We could insert "spacers" to force the paragraph breaks until this bug is resolved.

Wordplay 01-12-2007 10:59 PM

is it possible to list a user's articles in their profile? or atleast their lates ones?

Hornstar 01-12-2007 11:28 PM

nice work, im also using GARS currently but this looks quite neat as well, ps your last statement about GARS. GARS is not got anything to do with RSS is just converts users threads from specific forums into either reviews, articles, website showcase, recipe showcase etc. it is easily changed to meet the admins needs.

however this one looks very good for a free option so far. I will defently be checking this one out as well. the only problem I see so far is this.

If I decide to uninstall this down the track because it becomes buggy or because I no longer want it installed. Ill loose all the articles as well because they are not stored in vb? Is this true. as i think loosing members data over something like this is quite bad.

Thanks.

That works fine until you EDIT the article. Even though the text in the edit box looks good, as soon as you re-submit it, you lose all the paragraphs -- UNLESS you add them all back in before you save it.

No, it was in my first (not released) version but I deactivated it and I'll explain the reason. Don't forget that that the module has rating system. This rating maybe according a good image, or a good audio file or video file and gets high rating. If the user has the ability to change this image/audio/video the rating will remain the same, somthing that is not good as this rating was for something else.

I'm not the God and for sure not all my ideas are correct. But this is what I've thought. Maybe I'm wrong.

If I remember well (as well can remeber a 50yo woman) I let this feature in Lite version too. Seeing an article in full page on the right column there are some info for author and one of them is "Top Article" and a link below "Read all". Clicking this you get all articles by this author. Maybe I've to change it to something more understandable.
