Is there a way to get a list of the advantages of Zoints SEO over vBSEO to properly determine which one that would best fit our website.

If you were to go through both products' offering, what would you pick out for each?

RichieBoy67 09-23-2006 10:12 PM

Hey, I appreciate it but take your time... Kill some more monsters....lol It might take me longer but I am sure I can figure this out.... I do appreciate the support but no rush..... :)

By the way-- I am totally into the whole Zoints integration and I have installed the other related mods too.... Once I get this working I would be happy to demo any and all new integrations.. I really think this will be a boost for a forum like mine... My forum is more of a social arena and not so much topic oriented......

Thanks again...

iChambers 09-23-2006 10:33 PM

I am not going to install Zoints SEO until I see if the advantages are benifits my website - you may the claim that is why I asked. Plus if you have a huge bug in PHP4 then I have no choice not to install it because I do run PHP4.

Zoints 09-23-2006 10:37 PM

Zoints SEO 2.2.1 has been uploaded.

This should fix the php version issues many of you are seeing. Overwrite everything. :)

Heheh, fair enough bud. I was just curious what you would pick out (most features can be seen via the admincp options).

Anyway, the php4 bugs were just fixed. I'll be going through tomorrow and explaining every feature of Zoints SEO in some detail and the SEO theory behind each feature. At that point some things will be more readily apparent.

RichieBoy67 09-23-2006 10:45 PM

Great, I am going to overwrite everything but I am afraid I will have to install manually.....

Thanks

RichieBoy67 09-23-2006 10:48 PM

I don't suppose you have a list of all the query?

No queries were changed. Just a plugin.

Brandon Sheley 09-23-2006 10:52 PM

thanks for posting links to some demo sites, this will help myself and several others understand what this product can offer..

I would like an answer to "what this will do better then vBSEO that is posted in the first post"
I seen a reply to go through both products and look for yourself, but the thread stater claimed this, I think he should be the one posting this info..

Also, I have a few questions, will the old url's be 301'd to the new ones ?
is there a sitemap that will submit to google the re_written URL's ?
and one of the "demo" sites has session ID's s=423525252452525253 after the url's,, this is a big turnoff to me,, will this be an issue ? or does that site have some other SEO work to go, to remove session ID's..

thank you, and best of luck with the zoints SEO
-Brandon

With the new update the product-zointsseo-2.2.1.xml doesn't have to be run? When it is run it does the quiri... That is what I was refering too... Overwriting the files did nothing for my site and my site is down so how do I work with the plug ins?

You can add:

Code:

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);
to your includes/config.php

It will at least let you access your site and disable problematic plugins (hopefully)

RichieBoy67 09-23-2006 10:59 PM

Ahh,

Thank you so much... I have been trying to come up with that for the last 20 minutes.. I just could not remember it... I was close but not that close....lol

Thanks

Loco.M dont you have vbseo? You seem to ask the same questions each time about any seo rewrite product and try to point out bad parts.

Not really. If you look in the first post, there are a TON of options and you would have to view source of the sites to see many of them in action. In addition, things like the archive ad management system which is included cannot be seen by viewing a forum.

Some is fact, some is subjective. My real problem is that many people install SEO enhancements without having a clue about the SEO theory behind it. I could tell you X, Y, and Z is great about Zoints SEO, but are you going to believe me? Anyone who is well versed in SEO, programming, and monetization will quickly see the differences between the products based solely upon the screenshots and information in this thread.

I will be going through tomorrow and doing an extensive writeup. But frankly, i'm of the opinion that no SEO modifications should be installed unless you know WHY you are installing them. There isn't an SEO product on the market (Zoints SEO included) that in MY opinion doesn't have a couple features that can in fact hurt the performance of a forum. Zoints SEO is a fantastic piece of software, but I sure as hell wouldn't turn a couple of its features on. Algorithm updates happen constantly, if you're going to play with SEO, you better understand it.

If they have session IDs then they aren't using any of the url changing features.

Thanks Brandon, but don't wish luck to us. Zoints SEO belongs to the vBulletin community now. Wish yourselves luck :)

Greek76 09-23-2006 11:13 PM

Well done , this mod will prove useful. I installed it with no problems as all of the Zoints mods with ease and Im a newbie lol. Good job!

RichieBoy67 09-24-2006 12:39 AM

Very strange and I do not understand it....

Right now I can access my admin cpanel and I have basically reinstalled this script. I am now getting a very strange error..

PHP Code:

Fatal errorCall to undefined function: cache_ordered_forums() in /home/talkandm/public_html/index.php on line 496

This line is basically for the moderator columm...

I am going to go through the template edits and see if that is where the problem is.... I believe it is and it has to do with my style...

Thanks again for the help...

Rich

Ramsesx 09-24-2006 12:59 AM

Thanks a lot for this David.
There are two bugs so far, 1. on my pp vbgallery all is pointing now to the /forum directory instead to /gallery
2. The next and previous thread links are working not right.

Zia 09-24-2006 03:50 AM

letsjoy 09-24-2006 04:28 AM

Yes I use vBSEO, but I have friends and clients that can't afford it right now, if this is a good product for them, I would suggest it..

Trust me, I'm not asking question to make you look bad, these questions I did ask I feel are important to someone who is considering Any url rewrite..

actually demo links do help us understand, I don't see why your being negative about this..I certainly wasn't trying to be..

maybe you can post a link to the "big boards" that have been using it for long term ?

I was just replying to your claim, you said there are some things zoints vbseo can do better, and some things vbseo can do better,, If you didn't have something to back this up, you shouldn't have said it.. ;)

um, okay then instead of good luck,, I'll say hope this works out good for you and the community ;)

project-Buckfas 09-24-2006 09:15 AM

Brilliant. Works perfect.

Thank DCChapman!

rogersnm 09-24-2006 09:58 AM

If you check the coding then you can see where it adds the session url and it should automatically be pruned off the url by vB anyway. If it's not then it's a problem with their board not with this mod.

But on the other hand the writers beat demo doesn't look to good: http://www.writersbeat.com/ xD

Neal-UK 09-24-2006 10:24 AM

On two of my sites, my forum index file is named forum.php, will this effect anything in the htaccess file, as I notice the location "index.php" in there.

nimonogi 09-24-2006 10:44 AM

I you have set
Code:

DirectoryIndex forum.php
in your .htaccess
I believe would work fine...

Hemanth 09-24-2006 11:33 AM

Good work man.. Thanks..

Neal-UK 09-24-2006 12:53 PM

I'm noticing people on Who is online viewing a location that comes up with invalid link: /forumdisplay.php/-.html?u=403

Neal-UK 09-24-2006 02:11 PM

This has also made my gallery and links stop working properly too, pointing to the wrong place. What do I need to alter in the htaccess file at all?

RichieBoy67 09-24-2006 05:03 PM

Well I finally got everything worked out last night. I ended up reinstalling 3.6.1 and that did the trick along with me undoing the other things the install script did.

I then reinstalled and did all the edits again manually and it seems to be working fine right now. I have my fingers crossed...

I believe what caused my problem was the Thread Decay System........

At any rate the script is running fine right now though I still have to test it's functionality.

I appreciate the time and effort that has been put towards this and towards helping me last night...

I believe the install would be much simpler on a standard vb site..

If anyone would like to test this product feel free to check out my site. You would be doing me a favor also because as I said, I have not checked the functionality yet.

I am creating a temporary user for everyone...

It is called

ZointSEo

password will be zoint

This will get you registered access...

Thanks

Ramsesx 09-24-2006 05:18 PM

Richieboy, don't see any difference, did you disabled it? (talkandmore)

rogersnm 09-24-2006 06:53 PM

here's a question. I am trying to set this up on my mates site and he wants to rewrite his advertise.php page. I just put
Quote:

RewriteRule ^(advertise.html)$ advertise.php [QSA,L]
in his .htaccess file and now I can go to advertise.php and advertise.html but I can't get advertise.php to automatically redirect to advertise.html no matter what I try. Any Ideas?

joffer 09-24-2006 10:46 PM

Well ive installed and is working fine , except one thing - it doesnt post to zoint i added the auth key + token , ive tested the crontab it doesnt work
can anyone help me out ?

RichieBoy67 09-24-2006 11:10 PM

Quote:

No, It is enabled but the decay system is disabled..

I have noticed some of the extra meta tags but that is all I have noticed so far.. I am trying to go through settings etc right now to see what else is missing...

Thanks

Does vB installation come default with a .htaccess file?

The contents of my htaccess file is completely blank, could someone maybe post their entire .htaccess please? This might solve my SEO problem, I don't know but worth a try.

It's a server thing, not vB... I think you should have a default one, yes.

rogersnm 09-25-2006 07:16 AM

just insert the lines it tells you to insert. But you don't need to unless you choose use mod_rewrite in vb options.

Ramsesx 09-25-2006 07:56 AM

Nobody can tell how to change the .htaccess to exclude the /gallery folder?
Thanks

MusicMan 09-25-2006 09:21 AM

This is a wonderful hack that I've been using for a while now. It has developed into an amazing free SEO hack and it has been very helpful to my sites. While it may not be supported yet, if you guys have any questions about it, I'd be happy to try and help out however I can. I've used it for around 6+ months and am pretty familiar with its features and benefits. :)
