if anyone else gave some feedback, then we`d know where we were...lol
Good point :)
Feedback? Okies - as I said it's an excellent idea, and it works. I upgraded to the last version (23 effects) . . . and they all work too. The only trade-off I've found - and sadly it's a big one - is the adverse effect on page loading times.
Once the transition kicks in, the effect (and durations) display correctly. The problem is with the delay before anything happens. With the hack disabled, the load times return to normal. I have reset the durations, but it doesn't help with the actual loading time, this only reduces the transition time. For now, it's still installed, but I've had to turn it off in favour of acceptable load times. There are always faster servers (and faster computers) "just around the corner" so I'm hanging on to this in the hope I can put it to use in the future. If Ziki or anyone else has any thoughts on improving the speed, I'd love to turn it on again :) |
Nice hack ....
Thanks |
@Belder,
I will work on the load times.I have a fast PC and fast server so I don't see any difference :) |
You know if you edit the template zh_load you have a part called duration in every meta tag.You can edit it.Default is 5 so I think that is what Belder means :D
Yes that's what I altered - the durations are all set at a default of 5. I've changed them to 3, but as I said, that only affects the duration of the transition effect. For some reason, there seems to be a further delay before anything happens at all.
Since that could be a server issue, I too would like to hear from anyone else using this, whether or not the durations have been edited. |
I don't think it has any effect on the delay or anything because it are just simple meta tags.No hard codes :-/
Thanks for the replies Ziki. Now that we have Microstats installed, we've got the benefit of some facts. The effects add no queries, and appear to have a nominal (if any) effect on server load.
I've reset the durations as said b4, the ones we like best look better with the slightly shorter duration . . . and my host has been "tweaking" the server. The result is an improvement in performance, and I've re-enabled the hack. Once again, thanks for a great addition :) |
I'm glad it went good :D.But you have a typo.It really adds one template query
k, just upgraded IE to version 7, and the latter effects still dont show.....just 1 - 16 work on mine.
I have no clue why it doesn't work on your browser. It works on my and I am using IE 6.Try using it and asking different members on your board
I'm using IE7 and see no changes either. IE6 and IE 7 are not the same. There have been some fundmental changes between both that may be affecting this hack.
Very nice, working fine on vb3.6.2 and on IE 7
Thank Ziki :D |
Np guys. Can you confirm that the load types 17+ work for you?

idid that before i posted the reply mate. the hack DOESNT work on mine..... read whitetigergrowl post mate.......it aint just me. not sayin the hack dont work, just the later additions.... |
They are meta tags. They should work everywhere.Seems like the doesn't.If you read through the whole thread there are a few people that the new ones worked for.
this is great! is there any way to add a randomizer to the effects, instead of using just one all the time?
I did use this, but seemed like peoples internet page froze if they ran 56K connection lol
