Ahhh, with EC you can't link to external files? :(

I have been waiting for the other Downloads mod to come back.

What if I download this one, and the other download mod comes back with fixes and stuff?

From the page downloads.php?do=add&cat=, you fill in the requested information about the file then place the url to the file in the box that reads "Link to a File". You would leave "Upload a File" blank.

This mod will continue to use the same database and product info as Ron1n's original mod. He's had about 4 weeks to correct a coding problem that took 5 minutes to fix. I've repeatedly tried to contact him without success. My guess is that real life has gotten the better of him for awhile. If he reappears and updates his mod, you'll have the choice which one to use!

Sometime down the road, I may make this mod use different tables and install as a separate mod but for now the focus is on getting a secure version to ecDownload users.

Add see if you host will turn safe mode off. Otherwise, I can think of one more option for you put it would be custom and I can't do it until later in the week.

Give this a try:

Change the permission on the downloads folder to 2777. (From your forums directory execute the command: chmod 2777 downloads)
Upload the attached downloads.php file.

NOTE: for this to work safe_mode_gid must be set to yes (on).

I think there were two. Shame that vb.org can't let us see the dag-gone posts without the mod being downloadable. I will dig through it again and will have to get back to you. Might take a while as I have to sift through a desk full of papers in the hopes my wife did not throw it away!

Great hack but when i add a *.avi or mpeg file, ill get a new screen full off weird signs and it won't play. Any idea, i added the extensions true the admincp.

Example when i click a movie file with different extensions.

As long as safe_mode_gid is on, I think so. But, I don't have a server with safe mode on so I can't test it. Hoping someone who does will test it out. Make sure you use the downloads.php file that was attached to that original post.

i chmoded downloads folder to 2777 and uploaded the downloads.php file that was attached to that post and still get that error so i take it this is only for ppl whos servers are not in SAFE MODE, because my host will not turn it off for security reasons?

only the 3.3 version will work i have noticed not the 4.1.x versions of his stuff
and the 3.3 version does not offer the stuff that 4.1.x does that i would like this sucks...but ty for your help i have to revert my dnlds back to 3.3 of ronins is there security problems for that version as well?

MySQL field names that need to be addressed:

desc in dl_cats should be renamed as it is a MySQL keyword.
desc in dl_files should be renamed as it is a MySQL keyword.

The issue is when you do a MySQL export using MySQLDump, it will export fine, but importing will fail.

They download fine on my test site. Can you send me the URL to your site? Also, what is the OS? Seems in the past I remember Windows servers not downloading those files correctly.

I have added some extensions like avi mpeg wmv but it still display some weird signs and hangs loading the movie file.

I have added some extensions like avi mpeg wmv but it still display some weird signs and hangs loading the movie file.

I'm not sure why this happens on some servers but not on most. For now, I'd suggest you zip them so that users can upload and download them.

What is your server OS?
