The Libertines album "Up The Bracket" is my bible :)

favorite passages:

"if you've lost your faith in love in music, well the end won't be long"

"there were no good old days. these are the good old days"

"i get along just singing my song..people tell me i'm wrong-++++ 'em!"

:)

Then you've never seen the good old days. ;)

I voted Christian. :)

randandy 05-23-2006 11:10 AM

I voted Christian.

Which is easier to believe?

God just appeared or ammonia just appeared?
Christianity has fooled people for 2000 years or is real?
Evolution (or chance) produced life as we know it or there is a supreme guiding hand?

Jesus must be God, insane, or a liar but multiple religions count Him as a great man/teacher so the last two seem improbable.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in! :)

Just curoius, how long have you been around? ;)

Bro_Joey_Gowdy 05-23-2006 02:29 PM

Im a Christian - Independent Fundamental Baptist in denomination ;)

Dean C 05-23-2006 04:13 PM

I'd say i'm spiritual. I believe in a higher power, incomprehensible to us humans :) I am considering converting to Buddhism soon, however :D

Wayne Luke 05-23-2006 04:20 PM

I follow an eclectic path that is a combination of my roots... Which includes Old Norse, Celtic and Native American Spiritualities. Religion to me is organized by someone/something beyond my control. Spirituality is something that one uses to take responsibility for their own lives and morals. Many people get into a religion (any one of them actually) and forget about the spiritual part of it. I feel that is the main problem with this world and why many groups do not get along.

35 years...and i've seen a LOT. but saying "There were no good old days" doesn't mean that there weren't wonderful times in the past-of course there were. but as pepole i think we all have a tendency to look at good memories from the past through rose-tinted glasses. when the Libertines sing "there were no good old days..these are the good old days", they're saying don't get so caught up in reminiscing about how good the past was, that you forget to enjoy the present and take it for the gift it is. don't look back upon good times in the past as if it was some mythical time of happiness, the likes of which can never be achieved again-becuase that's a self-fulfilling prophecy. and i agree with that 100%.. which is why that line from the song is one of my favorites. "There were no good old days..these are the good old days." in other words-live.

Boofo 05-24-2006 02:15 AM

Well, sure, if you look at it like that. ;)

I was thinking more of the Jimmy Morrison days and the way the world was back then. It's gotten too complicated and moves too fast now. And there never has been or ever will be someone that looked at the world like he did. ;)

oh i agree-Jim Morrison was brilliant. so many amazing artists from that time that we lost-Morrison, Joplin, Hendrix -we lost them all way too early :/

Boofo 05-24-2006 03:52 AM

Yes, and that to me was the good old days. ;)

They weren't brilliant enough not to drown in their own puke or kill themselves with drugs ;)

Boofo 05-24-2006 12:23 PM

I have a sneaky feeling you aren't old enough to have been around then, am I right? ;)

You are incorrect...I just turned 45 ;) Either way, my age has nothing to do with the fact that they aren't here today aging gracefully, falling out of palm trees on their heads, with Keith because they weren't too bright in their youth.

same here. I'm not religious, I'm a Christian. Big difference. Also not a member of any organized denomination... they are man-made, not biblical

Ahhh, but they ARE still here today as their music and philosophies live on and endure. The same thing can't be said about most music in the last 20 years.

I will give you that on the first point, and my first comment wasn't meant to slam their artistic abilities...their influence today is a testament to that. I would take slight exception to the notion that music from the last 20 years hasn't had similar impact...The Police, The Clash, The Ramones are a few that come to mind. In regards to philosophies promoted from that era, you are refering to what...drug use and free love?

btw...sorry for taking this thread on a rabbit trail!!!

This could be an interesting topic that I'd like to explore further. How about we start a separate thread for this? Set it up and I will join you there. ;)

I would have said a dying business, but your original statement is close.

sounds like a good idea to me (if im welcome, of course). we really need the "Fork thread" hack installed on this board :) i love that one, my members use it all the time, as we tend to have discussions that go off-topic a lot :p

Of course you're invited. Start the thread if it hasn't been started yet and we will go to town. ;)

What is the forked thread thing?

The Church of Painful Truth. Simply, the truth is, none of us know the truth for sure. I prefer it this way.

Boofo 05-25-2006 03:04 PM

Amen, brother! Exactly the way I see it. ;)

I clicked on other, because on my forum we debate and discuss all religions. I like to study world wisdom.

sebbe 05-27-2006 08:01 PM

I'm supposed to be Christian but I'm not.

zooki 09-10-2006 09:50 PM

I was born in UK, i believe in God, I believe in Prophet Abraham, I believe in Prophet Jesus... and i follow what they taught, so naturally i am a Muslim. Because that is what the Prophet Muhammad taught. Islam is just the message sent by God to all the Prophets. Nothing new, nothing new to Muhammad. And im not Arab either. Originally European.

I think it is important for all people to see things from outside political situations, or better to look into things from different perspectives without prejudice to know and understand beliefs and cultures.

rin 09-10-2006 11:16 PM

No religion here. But actually supposed to be protestant.
