I'm currently learning how to allow BBCode into the announcement, so once I find out, i'll include it ;)

I hope to get version 1.2 out tonight - it will contain one new feature:

'Global Announcement Page' - This will add a link to a seperate page, where you can add a more descriptive announcement.

Hey, nice idea. Looking forward to it. Or, can you make it to link to a page of our choice??? I use it to make announcements for my vbdrupal section (and it works quite well for that!)

Sure I'll include that as an option in the admincp :)

Marky 01-12-2006 07:51 PM

I've created an option to include a link to the title of your announcement, and also an option to turn on and off, a 'More...' link, which will link to the same link as the title and will appear at the end of your announcement should you want to include more.
I must now create the option to turn the link on and off, and also create the page in which you can re-direct to include the 'more' announcement :)

But I must dash now, so I'll release it when it's finished tommorow ;)

Thanks,

Marky

I like the new features in v1.1, thanks Marky. :)

brvheart 01-13-2006 04:30 PM

*Clicks Install* :)

Marky 01-13-2006 06:38 PM

Sorry for the delay in the latest release - I've just currently taken on a new project and it's hard work getting it all done :)
I'll try and rap the new release up for tommorow morning ;)

Looks good, I plan on installing this after moving my board to a new host. I've got a suggestion. How about an option to automatically create a thread in a specified forum when you post an announcement? If the option is selected, you specify the forum, a thread is created with the same title and contents as the announcement and the announcement automatically contains a link to the thread.

Yup - this is a thought that's crossed my mind ;)
I'll look into doing it soon ;)

What about this in reverse.... post in a specified forum and it shows up in the global announcement... this way you could allow admin's, moderators, or whatever you set your posting rules to be... toeasily make an announcement without going into the admin panel..... ?

** Thanks Installed **

In the fresh install - 1.1 text file, there is un-necessary </if> in end of code to be added in the navbar template. I thought i would let you know.

Thanks again.

Paul M 01-14-2006 04:30 AM

What I'd like to see ;

1. The ability to control which usergroups see an announcement.

2. The abilty for multiple annoucements - linked to the above.

The result being that different usergroups see different announcements. :)

AmpSul 01-14-2006 05:07 AM

excellent... been waiting for one of these for a long time :) ...thanks!!

Yeah, works fine with 3.5.2.

Marky 01-16-2006 04:02 PM

Version 1.2 Released

Features:

*** Announcement Title Link - The ability to create a link from the title of your announcement to an external link.
*** 'More' Option - The ability to add an 'More...' to your announcement. This links to the same link as the title.

Just download the .zip, and follow the correct instructions :)
This version is easier to install as all you must use is '$globalannounce' in the navbar! It automatically Cache's the templates for you ;)

Thanks,

Marky

Installed on my test board, looks great. Noticed a minor issue, in the admincp settings page, the description for the field where you set the color of the body text says "Choose the colour of your announcement title." Same goes for the alignment. Both say "title" instead of one "title" and one "text".

Great!

Marky,

Thanks for wonderful plugin, works great for me, I needed this and you made it :) But one tiny bug, even when I select the option of putting it offline, the annoucement displays, why is that ?

Do you want your Announcement online?

Yes = Online
No = Offline < I did choose No there and it still displays, but only way to stop this from appearing is to remove any text inside the box, can you update me where I might have gone wrong, I followed exactly as you said though.

Thanks,
DC

not sure if this is a bug or not, maybe a microbe of some sort... anyways, i set a link for the Title Link, fine - it works. then i go and remove the link, and then the Title Link remains but to my forum index... normal? if so, i would prefer a way to completely remove the option of a Title Link.

creedmaniac 01-23-2006 09:45 PM

wouldn't the announcements section of the admin menu be a better place to put this rather than in vbulletin options?
