I do some thing else ;)
I creat a new phrase "googleads" then I edite the "archive/index.php" like this

PHP Code:

echo $vbphrase[googleads];

Then I edite the "googleads" phrase to any thing I want.

cgchris99 12-15-2005 01:06 PM

Anyone know if I can use this on v3.0.x ?

Thanks

good2laugh 12-15-2005 08:05 PM

hi, stupid here. Do I just edit archive header and archive bottom? or is there something else I have to edit.

I edited both with my google code and get a header on the top but not the bottom - but its cool, just want to make sure I've edited the right things.

Thanks :)

If there are no ads available for your content, the footer may be blank. Try browsing around your archive and see if it ever shows.

Nice amykhar thanks for another great hack

cgchris99 12-29-2005 12:23 AM

I recently installed this adsense plugin for the archive and it works great. However, I noticed the newer xml install in later posts of this thread that includes the google search and has a column on the right for additional adense ads.

My impressions have gone up but my eCPM has gone down. It's too early to say for sure but I am thinking 3 ads on the archive page may be too many. It is causing the eCPM to drop quite a bit. My earnings have been lower for the last 3 days. I'll leave it for a couple more days before I re-install the first version.

Any thoughts on this?

cinemablend 12-29-2005 02:31 PM

So question...

In the archive, how are you getting google to index past the first page of threads?

Google is only indexing the 250 threads on page one of each forum, it's not indexing anything past that for me.

I guess I can set the thread count per page so high that they're all on one page, but I notice that on a lot of other people's pages the threads on deeper pages ARE getting indexed.

What's your secret?

Doozilla 12-30-2005 02:51 AM

Sorry, I feel like a dunce for asking, but where/how do I change/control what shows up where the ads are?

Thank you :)

I don't know what you are asking here. You have not control of what adds are going to be display on the page. The adds are picked but google. Google reads the content of your page and finds adds from that fit that content of your page.

No, no. I figured it out now, but what I didn't understand before is that I had to go into the plugin manager to control the ad content. that was my question.

I do have a new question now though, I installed the revised edition that is suppoed to assist in the skyscraper on the right hand side, but I don't see any option to put one in. Can someone please explain a brief detail how to add the skyscraper to the right hand column?

Much appreciated, thank you.

Just one oddity.. while I get the adsense banner at the top, I don't get one at the bottom (just a blank space the size of what the banner would take). Very strange behaviour.

*clicks installed*

Each banner should have a different channel asigned to it or it won't serve more than one add set to the same page. But even then you may get blanks if it can't find anything to serve.

Jon12345 01-24-2006 11:23 AM

I have tried this script and it has entries for top and bottom. But what about the side? Incidentely, when I use the bottom entry, it goes to the side anyway!

John Diver 01-24-2006 11:52 AM

Look at the second page for an update with the side bar.

My stats show a lot of traffic going to my archive but I have VERY low impressions in my adsense.
Does anyone else get this?

Guest210212002 01-24-2006 04:40 PM

/me clicks install

mccollin 01-27-2006 06:07 PM

Question on the hack... works great by the way. What is the value of adding the search box to the archive? Isn't that giving vistors a way off your page without going to your site, or one of your ads? I don't see the benefit of doing that.

amykhar 01-27-2006 06:24 PM

The search box also pays. For us, it works if somebody finds us from google, and we're not quite what they thought they'd find. They just retype their query in the box and leap off to keep looking. It allows us to capitalize on traffic that was leaving anyway.

m_k 02-15-2006 03:48 PM

nice hack amy... thanks :-)

993ti 02-21-2006 09:27 PM

Argh, it puts the ads above the archive:
http://www.twenteracingscene.com/archive/index.php/

Paul M 02-21-2006 10:15 PM

That's because it needs re-writinig for vb 3.5.4 due to the changes in the way the archive works.

Smiry Kin's 02-23-2006 04:54 AM

dun work in 3.5.4 now well for me =-/ could ya test, or update might be me :( lol

Smiry, if you can't be bothered to read support threads before posting questions, please do not request support for my mods. If I can take the time to give you code, you can take the time to read the thread before you post.

I haven't upgraded to the new vbulletin yet. When I have time to do so, I will update any mods that need updating.

amykhar 02-23-2006 01:33 PM

updated.

hotrod1 02-23-2006 01:50 PM

I get this error when I try to edit the plugins to insert my own ads:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /archive/index.php(453) : eval()'d code on line 3

amykhar 02-23-2006 02:04 PM

That's because you have to escape the quotes now. It's a royal pain in the patoot.

open in notepad your archive header and footer code and just make a simple find and replace
Code:

"
to
Code:

\"
thanks for the update working great.

amykhar 02-23-2006 02:11 PM

One comment to Tefra's suggestion. You can't escape the first and last quotes that are wrapped around the banner code. ;)

Amy

oups i forgot to mention that

PHP Code:

$output.=" your code hear "

Code Monkey 02-23-2006 02:27 PM

Or use single quotes so php doesn't have to waste time parsing text. ;)

hotrod1 02-23-2006 03:03 PM

I tried doing what you said and it didn't work.

Monolith 02-23-2006 07:14 PM

Thanks for this, Amy. Very nice.

Is there an easy way to stick the middle ad skyscraper on the left side of the page instead of the right, though?
