This looks like an interesting hack which i am most certainly going to install.

I know some people will prefer the gifs because of the IE transparency bug, but I personally will go for the pngs.

Is there a reason why the post histories still have a gif extension?

These PNGs do also work fine in IE, as they are not truecolor.

I experimented with GIF also, so the extension is just an oversight ;)
