I have not yet had a chance to checkout version 3.5, im not sure how much modifications etc will be needed to transfer themes from 3.0.8 to 3.5 but i will be definately looking into it.

Quite a bit I've found so far, with AJAX, inline moderation, etc. Another thing to keep in mind also, is 3.5 is xhtml compliant, so when you xfer themes you may have to write more things into CSS. There are alot of sites selling skins who will have alot of work to bring their products into compliance.
