Isn't there a possibility that you create a new forum, dedicated to polls. And that when you place a poll in that forum (being an admin), some coding (which I'm requesting for now :p) queries the mysql database for the poll and then places the poll on your forumhome page??

Yes, thats how its done with portals and how i intend to do it when i get around to finishing the code ;)
