I believe it replies to the bottom-most post.

Then shouldn't Quick Reply follow the same action unless you click the button on a post? ;)

If threaded mode is enabled, by replying to a post that is not the bottom one, you can start off a different "branch" of the thread - hence the power of threaded over linear - one thread can branch off into many "sub-threads".

Brad 03-03-2003 02:41 AM

I use a 'sub-thread' hack to do that with linear with vB 2 ;)

Freddie Bingham 03-03-2003 04:30 AM

I suppose all of you are too new to remember the constant complaints we received about vB2 being 'too different' from vB1, 'too bloated' and 'Nothing but hacks'. And here we are going down the same road again.

Seriously, vB2 is a joke compared to vB3. I can't even stand to look at the code and I am sure you will see the light when you have it.

Erwin 03-03-2003 04:58 AM

I want to see the light. Let me see the light. Even the beta light. ;)

Xenon 03-03-2003 11:07 AM

oh yes, i remember that feelings from vb2 ;)
and i think some featureas are to much, i never used the calendar in vb2 :p

but just the new code is worth vb3 ;)
and there are also some very good new features, but the thread is called what you don't like ;)

That's where I think they went wrong -- it should be linked to the first post when you click the generic "reply" button, or if you hit "quick reply" without clicking on a specific post's QR icon. That's the logical way.

I'm sure there'll be a way around that via hacks...

nuno 03-03-2003 09:05 PM

It's not that i do not like threaded mode, i just want an ACP option to disable it completely, and Freddie already said that it would be done, so, i'm happy. :)
Other than that, only time will tell, keep in mind that vB3 is at beta stage, it is not fully ready, but it seems impressive so far.
The future belongs to the Devs.
