Yeap, I use the Get New feature and there you'll find if a new announcement is made.

I always read any forum with a new post, so yes - I do read the announcements forum:)

The annoucements forum is the first thing I think of when I wake up and the last when I go to bed. It fills my dreams, I refuse dates with girls, and I don't eat. I've quit my job, dropped out of school, and wrapped my car around a tree thinking about it.

Seriously though, I view them sometimes. I'm used to vB.com's mailings for new versions rather than checking the forum there so I don't always see hotfixes for security problems even.

I should read them, but I don't. I think I've been in there once or twice since I've been at vb.org, over a year now. :$
