If you have included vB's forum/global.php in the PHP script you want to use it in then its automaticly avalible. Otherwise you will need copy the getavatarurl function from admin/functions.php and change the MySQL part to match the format that the other script is using (mysql_query istead of $DB_site->query for example).

Damn I didn't think about including the Global file!

I really appreciate your help...but I just can't make this work.

I have tried every combination of includes, requires, PN database connection syntaxes, plain mysql_query queries, playing with the variables all over the place..... you name it.

I've never in my life heard of someone putting images into a sql database....I can't even fathom the reasoning behind....

Here I am 8 hours into this and I can't even get a URL to an image...if someone told me they had to go through all this for an image url I would have laughed at them.

Is there any more that you can help me with on this? It is just plain beyond me and I've lost my marbles trying to get it.

All I want is the URL to the avatar so I can make a simple <img src= link .

There may be a custom avatars as files hack avalible that will allow you to store them as files as oposed to in the DB, but I'm not 100% sure.

How are you getting the userid for the user's avatar you want to display?

One of the reasons I'd say for having them in the DB is so that if you move host, or when you back up your DB you have everything. Plus its easier to prevent hotlinking but adding a bit of PHP to the avatar.php and attachment.php which is harder and not allways avalible if they are stored as files.

I've been in the process all morning trying to decide whether to use Kier's avatar to files hack. The thread is ver convoluted and confusing....

But looking at the hack and comparing what is there with my ver of vB (2.2.8) I think it should work...I just need to look at the tables yet to verify that all should be ok.

Can I ask you one more question?

I am documenting my changes and have it pretty much done. I think there would be a lot of people interested in the integration of Post Nuke and vBulletin.

Is there someone to go to where I can be sure I'm not violating the licensing with the way I worded the docs? Are there people here that would be available to test my docs to be sure they're accurate before I release it?

The only way you can violate the vB Licence Agreement if you post compleate or extensive blocks of vB Source Code. I know know about PostNuke, but as its free I think, I don't see any problem. Just make sure if you have used other peoples code/hacks that they get credit.

You can post it in the Beta Releases forum first so people can test it and then move it to the full releases when your sure its ready for "the masses" to install :)
