Subforums, I would say are for splitting up a forum into finer detail, for example:

Operating Systems
- Windows XP
- Windows 98
- Linux
- Unix

Here as well as having a general OS forum, its been split up to organise threads based on the OS.

The number of forums you have partly depends on what topics the board is going to cover, and how many members/posts that you have.

Using sub-forums may make it more confusing for members or it may help by organising the discussion better.

Thanks NTLDR,

In my case, I think even an experienced vB designer might be challenged organizing my BB. I definatley think I have to many forums, but the subject of my forums is a bit obscure.

I've also wondered if the current vB2.* allows for creating a forum that is linked to an existing forum (basically having two names for the same forum)? I've thought this might help my BB.

In case anyone has the time/interest in helping me further with this... WoundTx.com. (Chronic wound care... sorry, won't find any pictures :) )

Please email me privately if this is going off-topic.

Thank you very much.
Rand

There is a hack that will allow you to create a forum which you can link to another forum, or any website, this will be a standard feature for vB3.

Is it possible to display the same topic in two or more Forums?

That is, have 2 Forums with links to the same topic. That might make it simplier to force people to post in the best topic, (copy/link some topics in several Forums.)

That is what would probably work best for me, though I really need someone's help to get this figured out.

Thanks for the feedback.
Rand

May I ask what the difference is between Templates and Hacks?

:)

You can copy a thread (topic) from one forum to annother so it appears in both, however when you reply to one the reply doesn't appear for the other one, if you see what I mean.

If that isn't what you want, you are able to move a thread and leave a redirect in the origional forum, this leaves a link to where it was moved to for users to follow and may be more like what you are looking for.
