Only trouble I ever had was recently, on one of their windows machines I inherited after a site purchase. Migrating the vBull to Linux fixed the problems.

I've known a few others to also have the "good" experience regarding GoDaddy that Max speaks of so its not a myth (lol) usually though its a horror story of uber slowness in epic proportions (for example the one time I had hosting with them, the forum url was not yet public and with just wittle ole' me online it crawled like a snail = oversold server as it was shared hosting for me a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away :p). If you have a dedicated server with them then usually no fuss or issues, in my personal opinion its best to only use them for domains (when they run the $1.99 specials rack up) and purchase your hosting elsewhere unless you can afford a dedicated server(and need/specifically require one as well).

I am working on a site, hosted with godaddy and the sql server keeps going away. Uber slowness sporadically, database errors from trying to optimize tables from acp, or database error's from clicking new post.
If you have to call them to tell them how to fix their issue they will want a screen shot of the error no matter how stupid you tell the support tech he is and what to do to fix your issue, they still want a SS...really?
I have seen this in the past on my own hosting but, quickly fixed the issue. With GD, not so easy. But I think I have it corrected now.
Good luck.

My issue with Godaddy was how tech support always told me it was a Vbulletin issue. It never seemed to matter what the issue was I was having - it was always a "vbulletin problem." Contact vbulletin, blah blah...

My two cents (Canadian - worth about 1/4 cent American) is to find a host who's tech support is familiar with the Vbulletin software.

Good luck!

Good luck is about right. in my years of doing this I have not found any hosts that have any clue what-so-ever about vBulletin. Its sucks really. :( I've found in the past that sometimes the hosts cause more problem than solve them when it comes to vBulletin.

They're not cheap but URLJet fancies itself a host that "specializes" in vBulletin.

I can +1 that but hey I know the owners phone number off the top of my head so I'm biased... I'm so biased I love them nuff' said :p.

What hosts do I recommend:
- URLJet
- Hostgator
- Bluehost

Where do you need to go and read up regarding hosts? Here and within this forum. <-- Grab a cup'o'joe (Coffee) and take the time to see what others think, once you see a host who has tons of good reviews jot down the name, now go to google and research the host a little more i.e. looking for tons of bad feedback etc, if not much exist then of course its the usual disgruntled customer(s) and is to be expected.. if a ton of negative feedback then steer clear of that host and select an alternative one.

I generally do not recommend godaddy but it can be decent for smaller sites using wordpress, vbulletin, joomla, etc. For larger sites I would never use them.

I do have all of my domains registered through them though and for that I think they are the best.

Well chu'betta (being silly here on 2nd cup of coffee already) open your own thread up and ask for help IF my tip here does not work!

Scroll to the part with this info and follow it:

after giving values in Database Name and Technical Email Address

coming down to MASTER DATABASE SERVER NAME AND PORT

here

$config['MasterServer']['servername'] = DO NOT GIVE ANY OF THESE VALUES 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1';

THIS IS IMPORTANT, After Logging into your Account Manager in GoDaddy Click Launch button which is towards Domain and in Next Screen you will find Three Green Color TABS on Top Left Corner DOMAINS | HOSTING | EMAIL . Click on HOSTING. Here come down to DATABASES and Click on MySQL and ADD a database with a DATABASE NAME this DB Name you have to give in config.php.new file which I mentioned above, you will have to give this value in DATABASE NAME field.

OK, now coming back to server host name :)

After creating the database in MYSQL in GoDaddy Account Manager, Click on the database name and you will get all the details of that database. Click on the INSTALL button towards DSN, this will help you to connect your database to your website, and below that you will find HOSTNAME, Copy this hostname and paste it .....

Here,

$config['MasterServer']['servername'] = 'PASTE IT HERE';

you will find this entry in config.php.new file (Remember DO NOT GIVE THE VALUE 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1')

and then

$config['MasterServer']['port'] = '3306';

REMEMBER TO PUT SINGLE QUOTES TO PORT NUMBER.
So to sum it up, with GoDaddy you can't leave localhost in the config, you enter in the values shown to you within your control panel on Godaddy that he mentions how to check. If you're getting to 76%~ though I'd imagine you had this part sorted... most using vB5 a few years back were steering clear of Godaddy so not sure if you may want to or not as I'm not actively working on any vB5 sites, no lie none :p.
