First off, I just read your downgrade doc from Microsoft. They would not have qualified under those guidelines even if we knew about them. I spent exactly half of one day on windows 8 and about put a bullet through my head. I had a hard time navigating it and every time I tried to do something, it threw up a screen full of tiles. Classic shell brought back the familiar look and feel and made the system bearable. Younger people may not have issues with learning new interfaces or adapting to new technologies, but some of us old farts don't like change and don't feel like we should have to.

Navigating what? A Full screen start menu that is completely able to be arranged and sorted EXACTLY how you want it? You can make the tiles any size, wide, large, medium, and small. You can sort them into columns. Hit the windows key again and it goes away. You gave it an entire day before you switched? Change takes time, I was frustrated about some things early on (8.0) like the restart function being hidden behind WIN+C. But they've fixed that in 8.1, as well as a host of other issues, like coming directly to the desktop instead of the start screen.

What did you try to do? Unless you hit the start menu, or try to launch a metro app, you'll never see the interface.

If my mother and father (60 and 70 respectively) who can barely use computers, can manage, I'm very positive anyone else can.

We were on 8.0 Media edition.
WIN+C? My parents have a hard enough time hitting shift for capitals. Neither of them type, so quick key combinations only make things worse. Why should my parents bother learning a new interface when Classic shell fixed the problem? I don't use windows, so I had no reason to learn it.

GFY...I'm one of those people who hates change, hates touch screen devices and wish they still made a high quality flip phone. If I had the desire, I'm sure I could have figured it out pretty quick. My problem is, I get pissed off anytime I have to sit in front of a Windows computer because I just don't like it. Never have. They changed the GUI interface in the Linux arena a few years ago. All 3d touchscreen BS that isn't needed on a desktop IMO. I opted to use the older interface that was ported to the new libraries in short order since a lot of people didn't like the new stuff. I have a 23" touch screen that I have disabled the touch functionality. Get the picture? I'm not bashing Windows, it's great for some people, but for me, the first thing I do with a new PC is wipe the hard drive.

PS: I used abbreviations on purpose.

Figuring it out, and liking it, or wanting it, are two different things.

Why should I have to "figure it out" when I had a perfectly good system I already figured out.

Change for the sake of change is the biggest, most unnecessary PITA.

Change, and understanding why the things that are important are important are good. Sometimes you need to stumble to figure something out.

Clearly, as of windows 10, the start screen is gone (unless in tablet mode where it makes more sense).

But a lot of important feedback came in over the start menu/screen. Progress was made.

I don't mind (and kind of like) the start screen. I keep a ton of stuff I use there constantly, and anything I don't can still be searched/run like normal by just typing (just like in 7).

I've always tried to live on the bleeding edge.

THE START SCREEN IS NOT GONE!!! The start menu and the start screen will both be there.
