I heard rumours that Microsoft finally found someone who liked it, I guess that was you.

I used XP right up until something I needed wouldn't work (which happened a couple years ago). I have one old computer that still uses xp, partly because there's no reason to pay to upgrade it.

I would actually prefer to run Ubuntu on my Laptop I like it much better but I cannot run Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, & Illustrator on it without Wine and its just not the same in Wine even thought its workable. And forget Lightroom 5 on Ubuntu all together. :( I need all programs in my work so I cannot completely switch to a Linux machine being a designer. Plus there was a bug that had a problem with getting connected via WIFI and since I'm on a laptop I kinda need WIFI. So I'm stuck with Windoze 7. I refuse to use Windows 8 its a POS IMO. My sister has it on her Laptop and i cannot stand it. I hate having to fix anything on her machine. I doubt I'll install any new Windows platform either.

It depends on what version he tried. I loved ubuntu 10.04. I tried 11 with unity, absolutely hated it and stuck with 10.04 until 12.04 came out. Switched to 12.04 and it was nice but my machine slowed to a crawl, switched to Mint and never looked back.

Any Linux distro is a learning curve that not many windows users are able to conquer. Its much different so its not a surprise that more people do not use it. For a lot of people using a terminal really freaks them out. I do not know why but it does. There are lots of great online tutorials and stuff to learn how to use the OS but this all depends on what kind of time you have too. Windows is more user friendly for a lot of people but Linux is less likely to have issues with virus' & malware stuff.

True there are some versions that just seem to be more buggy than others with Ubuntu. I installed Mint like once but had some issues with it. This was years ago though when it first came out. Might look into it again though. I've also used Fedora, which was not too bad, but I like Ubuntu better though.

Linux Mint is solid. I rarely have an issue. It just works. They have several different distributions to satisfy the majority of users. The best part of Mint is, they listen to feedback from the users and address the bugs and or feature requests in a timely manner. They also have long term support releases for production environments. I installed Mint on my mothers PC and she didn't know the difference until she tried to install her favorite Windows game, otherwise she would still be using it.
